I see that this topic comes up ALOT with Outlook. With regard to Outlook 2007, I have a 1.2 Gb PST file recovered from a failing external USB drive. It as critical contact and calendar information, along with the email.

scanpst.exe did not sufficiently repair the file to be able to have Outlook 2007 access it. We're ready to move on to better options for data recovery.

Of the software THAT YOU HAVE TRIED, what has worked well for you? We see a wide variety of options that claim to get everything back, from $30 to $250 and up. We will do this ourselves, as the pay-to-recovery firms are using the same tools and we'd just as soon own it ourselves than pay their rates.

So if you have actually tried one or more products, can you offer your experience, successes and failures?

Thanks.

Well, that is the whole purpose of having a newsgroup completely dedicated
to Outlook... ;-)

My experience; try them all. Each corruption is different and each tool
handles a certain corruption better than the other. Sadly, you don't know
what the corruption is beforehand. Most recovery tools have a demo mode in
which the tool tells you which items can be recovered. Choose after that.

In my tests OutlookFIX came out the winner but your mileage my very
depending on the corruption you are trying to recover;

Make sure that you have a backup of your PST file before you run *any*
recovery tool on it.
