Hi, I'm a long-time Outlook user. I just upgraded to Outlook 2007 and after
I'm done reading a message in my IMAP folder, I hit the delete key (as I've
always done). Outlook then deletes the entire folder! I realize it must be
because I'm in the wrong pane, but shouldn't I get a warning? Has this
happened to anyone else, and does anyone have any ideas on how to prevent it
(or get my folder back)? Thanks in advance!

Hi Bob
I am having the same problems. I had many emails to delete and I "find"
them and mass delete and all my emails disappear! I have retrieved them once
after spending all day on websites looking for information regarding this.
What have you done? Me, I lost my files again and now Outlook - "Not
Responding".

Yeah, you should be warned.
Is the deleted folder a sub-folder of deleted items (either locally or on
the IMAP server)?

Is this some kind of bug and who will hear our vulnerability complaints? I
brought it up to mcafee, they don't know anything of this, never heard of
this, and I can't find a place on microsoft to let them know. By the way, I
ran scan disk in safe mode and heres what it said: deleting corrupt attribute
record (128, " ") list entry code 128 in file 73412 . . .

Yes, exactly, it's a sub-folder under my main IMAP inbox. Or should I say,
WAS a sub-folder under may main IMAP inbox. ;)

Hi justferg, What I did was run to another computer where I'd checked my
emails recently and put it on "offline mode. That way it didn't have time to
update the folders, and show that one of them had been deleted. I went to
the folder in question on that computer, and although it was offline, I was
able to retrieve some of the messages. However, I was only able to retrieve
the ones that had already been looked at and hence downloaded. When I go
back online, it will sync itself to the IMAP server and the folder will be
gone on that computer too. Hope I'm saying this cleary.
The second thing I did was download the PST backup program from Microsoft,
and I set it to backup as often as possible. Because I have a strange
feeling this will happen again -- it's just too easy to do!

I mean is it shown as a subfolder now you have deleted it?
usually, when you delete an Outlook folder it is shown in Deleted items as a
subfolder of deleted items and can be recovered from there. I'm not sure
what happens with an IMAP folder.

Thanks Bob, I'll try that. I will try again today and see what happens. I
ran a thorough scan disk and today it deleted index entries and fixed a
mirror copy security description. So far this has helped too, but we'll see.
I also noticed that others have posted similar things, I will read that too.

The folder that was deleted was a subfolder under my main IMAP inbox. When
you delete an IMAP folder, it does NOT go into the Deleted Items folder. I
wish it did or this wouldn't be such a big deal.

I also tried renaming the folders.dbx I did it 4 times and I think it has
finally stopped? I also deleted the IMAP folder and that may have helped too!
Thanks.

Um, Outlook doesn't use DBX files. If that's what you're manipulating, it's
a waste of time because those are for Outlook Express.
