Outlook 2000

When I click on one of the personal folders I created in Outlook 2000, I am
getting the message "Unable to display the folder". I have searched deep
into my computer and cannot find it. I'm not sure how it got deleted as all
of the other folders I created are fine. Can you help?

The steps you used to corrupt your Outlook profile would permit someone to
help. Without that information I'm not sure how you expected help from a
newsgroup. Outlook 2000 is many years out of support. You failed even to
state which mail support mode of Outlook 2000 you are using. You might also
want to consider divulging to us why you felt you needed multiple Personal
Folders in Outlook. We are not mind readers, and I'm struggling to come up
with a reason you felt you needed to do so.

Russ,

Please accept my apology for not giving you enough info. I use Microsoft
2000 Office for my email program. The files I created were in "My Shortcuts"
and contain various saved emails i.e recipes, order info, etc. One of these
shortcuts displays "Unable to open the folder" when I click on it. I can't
access anything on it (properties, etc). I searched on the web and performed
many tasks...scanpst.exe, different search modes. I am not very experienced,
but willing to take chances.

You've only added to the confusion. We still have no idea which mail support
mode of Outlook 2000 you are using, and it matters greatly. I'll give you
two choices: Internet Mail Only or Corp/Workgroup.
First you said you created multiple Personal Folders in your Outlook
profile. Now you say you created files in "My Shortcuts." We still have no
idea what you did.

Russ,

It is Internet Mail. As I tried to explain to you I am very unexperienced on
computer matters. The files I created are in "My Shortcuts" and using the
personal folders term was due to my lack of knowledge. One of the shortcuts
is what I am having problems with, and unfortunately, it happens to be one
that is most important to me.

If you are referring to the "My Shortcuts" section of Outlook, those are
simply links to files on your hard drive. The link may be corrupt, but the
file should still be on your hard drive where you created it and you can
easily recreate a link to it.

I don't remember the exact steps because this feature was abandoned years
ago. Didn't you create the links in the first place? Can't you just do the
same thing now?

All I did was right click in the outlook today bar and there were prompts and
I clicked to create a new shortcut. Can't you tell me how to retrieve the
stored info from my hard drive as it's extremely important info.

IIRC, "My Shortcuts" linked to Outlook folders you created in your Outlook
profile, not files on your hard drive. You accessed the latter through
"Other Shortcuts." Once again, we are hampered by the lack of any accurate
information. I still see no reason you could not recreate the link to an
Outlook folder in your profile using the same method you did before (usually
a R click on "My Shortcuts). I'm sure the data still exists in your Outlook
profile.

Maybe I can help - show your folder tree by expanding every little + =
sign you see. When you come across the folder for the shortcut you no =
longer have, right cilck on it and select "add to shortcut bar." You =

So, as I've said from the beginning, only you can provide the information
necessary to solve your problem and you have provided us none. If the folder
is missing from your folder hierarchy that readily explains the error
message from the shortcut bar. It also leaves you as the only culprit in
this crime. Folders do not disappear all on their own for no reason. Only
the end user can make folders disappear. If the folder is not in your
Deleted Items Folder, then you must restore it from your most recent backup
of your data file.

I am giving up and accepting the fact that the info is gone forever.
Unfortunately, the process did not restore my file either. I also think it's
a shame that you felt it necessary to be so condescending when I explained
from the beginning that I was an unexperienced user.

Being inexperienced does not prevent you from making clear, accurate
statements of what you are looking at and and what you are doing. It took
over 10 posts for us to learn that you were creating new folders in your
Personal Folders file and that you were not even examining that Personal
