As the subject says, my 'Deleted Items' folder has disappeared from my Mail
folders display.

Running O2007 in XPSP2.

If I check the properties (folder size) of the personal folders, I can see
that the folder exists and has data (105Mb!) in it.

Under the folder list view it shows: Contacts, Sent Items, Outbox, Junk,
Drafts, Inbox, Tasks, Calendar.

I haven't knowingly deleted it - how do I get it back (so I can tidy it up!)

I have tried stopping and starting Outlook, but I haven't tried rebooting
the PC (yet!).

Try opening Outlook with the /cleanviews switch:

Start > Run > outlook.exe /cleanviews

Let me know if that helps.

Thanks for replying so fast. Unfortunately, that hasn't made any difference.

You probably meant /resetfolders?

OK, I've recovered by creating a new PST file, exporting all my inbox etc to
it, closing outlook and renaming the PST files! I now have an empty (but
functioning) Deleted Items folder...

Bit drastic, and caused Outlook some indexing headaches, but it worked.

Thanks for the help anyway.

And having used the export function, you may now expect all sorts of other
problems. The correct way to do that is posted here many times daily and
involves copying or drag and drop, NOT exporting .

But you can't drag/drop the Inbox etc (or at least that's what Outlook told
me!)

No, but you can open it, select all, copy, and paste. Same with Sent Items
AFAIK, but all the manually-created folders you can just drag and drop.
Having exported, you may find that your Addressbook view doesn't work, and
that other things may be a bit odd.

OK, I've still got the original file so perhaps I'll give that a go. I am
finding it a tad tricky to have my outgoing mail delivered atm!

Thanks

Well, after much to-ing and fro-ing, I think I'm back in the land of the
living! The confusing thing seems to be that O2007 won't send emails from
the outbox of anything other than 'outlook.pst' (although it will deliver
incoming emails to whatever file is set as default.)

In the midst of all the chaos, my Deleted Items folder reappeared in the
original PST file! Perhaps I only needed to change the default pst away from
it and back again?

Anyway, thanks for the advice.

Hi,

I've just had a very similar problem with Outlook 03, except that not only
did my deleted items folder disappear but about 2/3rds of my personal folders
vanished. The contents of them are detected when I run a search of the items
of my personal folders, but the folders themselves have gone. I am at the end
of my tether with this program. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Cheers,
James

Try starting Outlook once with the /resetnavpane command switch. Then press
Ctrl-6 to see all of your folders. Do you see the "missing" ones now?
