I downloaded the Outlook backup tool plugin which looks like it will just
copy the .pst file after you exit it. This is simple, but does what I want.

But can I automatically schedule this backup? It has a reminder for me to
do so, but it looks like it's just a reminder, and I have to do a
file->backup to execute this.

Can I have it automatically save the backup file every X days? If so, how?

thanks,

Perry

It's just a copy command. You don't need the backup addin to automate that.
For an example see my Backup Outlook Script posted at;

Hi Roady

I am interested in the script to schedule pst backups and I've looked at the
link you provided here. There are no instructions for novices like me. Which
of the files in the Backup folder do I launch and what do I do then? Do I
need to copy and paste something into Schedule Tasks 'new Task'? I could do
with some hand holding.
