Outlook 2003 (no exchange)

I set up my Outlook to Archive as my Inbox+subs and Sent folders were
getting very full. Everything was fine and all the archived email could be
found in the Archive tree in their respective folders.

Today (after no settings had been changed) I found my inbox nearly empty (no
email older than 3/15/2007 see below) and the archive files nearly empty
(only 17 in the main archive inbox).

per some posts that suggested I go to Open>Outlook Data File>Archive I found
my Archive file and it has 906,705kb of data in the file. If I click on that
file I find all the same limited about of email in all the files I checked
(inbox and subs).

What the heck happened???

Please see all my current archive settings below.

Global Auto Archive Setting:
Tools>Options>Other>Auto Archive Settings: Archive or Delete old items/Show
archive folder in folder list/clean out items older than 24 mon./move old
items to (default c: settings)/Permanently delete old items is NOT checked.

Folder Settings:
Inbox (right click properties)>autoArchive: Set to Do not archive items in
this folder
Sent (right click properties)>autoArchive: Set to Archive items using
default settings

Yet another Archive setting in the file drop down:
Outlook>File>"Archive" is set to: Inbox (highlighted) Archive items older
than 3/15/2007 and Archive this folder and all sub folders is Checked

Any help you can offer will be very much appreciated!

Any filters on your views that might be hiding email?
Are there any other archive folders?

So, your archive file doesn't show all its contents?
Try running scanpst.exe on it. It might be corrupt.

No other PST files floating around? Try a system search for .PST files and
include hidden files and folders.
Something to remember when archiving is that archiving works on the modified
date of items. Not your problem but worth noting.

Bill,

First of all thanks for your help on this...

I seached and found 9 .pst files. Most of which were created by me when
adding new Palm software, etc. and wanted to make sure I had a current backup.

The ones that may be of interest are:

Outlook C:Doc and Sets\Owner\Loc Sets\Apps\Microsoft\Outlook Size:861,073kb
archive C: Same string as above 908,185 kb
backup C: Same String as above 374,993kb

Thoughts??

Open them and see what is in them.
If they have what you want then you can access the data from them after
opening them or copy that data back to the main PST (the modified date will
be changed so they won't be auto-archived for quite some time).
If Outlook goofs again Id consider starting with a new profile and a new PST
and copy the data back to it.

How do you suggest I open them? File>Open Outlook Date file??

If I go to an old back and pull an Archive the is clean - how do I copy that
into my "current" archive file??

Step by step insructions would be great!!

Thanks.

File | Open to Open them.
Drag and drop the items to copy to your main PST. Don't use the Import
operation.
