After I close Outlook 2002 program, the process OUTLOOK.EXE continues, often
for several minutes, and keeps interrupting other programs about once or
twice per second. During this time it's almost impossible to interact with
other programs as they stop being the current focus. The OUTLOOK process
eventually stops and things go back to normal. I don't knowingly have any
"check regularly for mail" options set.
Any clues anyone.

Using Windows XP SP3, but I can't remember if this problem coincided with
the SP3 update.

Sorry, forgot to say Outlook is fully patched.

It's likely you have a misbehaving add-in. See this:

Many thanks to you both for responding.
I found the "iTunes Outlook Addin" under COM-addin. Unchecking it stops the
problem.
Thank you.

Try getting the latest version of that app. One of the MVPs has helped
Apple address some issues in it.

Hi Brian,

I have the latest version (v7.6.1.9).
Once you pointed out the area to look I googled "iTunes Outlook" and found
the ref to the MVP's involvement with iTunes. It just said basically he had
managed to stop the iTunes Outlook app being reactivated each time iTunes
was run so at least unchecking the tick box stopped the problem. Even in the
latest version of iTunes there is no way to turn of the synching in iTunes
preferences.
I don't use any of the iPod features of iTunes and have turned off
everything I can see to do with the iPod, all to no avail.
Unfortunately, iTunes comes with a load of bloatware most of which I have
managed to turn off! Unless that is............
