    - email comes in code Hi, My husband is using Outlook 2003 on Vista Home Premium 32-bit. He have recently formatted and reinstalled Outlook. Ever since around then he consistently receives an email from a particular source that is what looks like code and not readable text. It is only from that sender so far. We doubt that it is the senders fault in that it is a commercial entity with a huge email distribution list. So I think the problem is some setting in Outlook.     - Sent folder sometimes dissapears. I have a customer who references their sent folder from time to time. Recently the folder dissapears and only a reboot will bring it back. I have tried a scanpst.exe. I have backed up Outlook folders and uninstalled Office pro 2003 and re-installed Office 2003 and restored Outlook. Problem still persists.     - how to get unread messages to show up automatically in Outlook? I've recently changed to Office 2007. I use Outlook, and keep my Inbox open all day. Previously, any unread messages showed up automatically (whether I did a manual Send & Receive or whether it was a scheduled one). Now, when a message comes in, the Inbox in the Folder List shows up in bold with the number of unread messages beside it, but the actual Inbox itself doesn't show anything UNTIL I change the View. It doesn't matter what View I have open (whether it's Messages or Last Seven Days or Unread Messages) - it is the act of changing the View itself that allows the new messages to show up.     - Clicking a link always starts new process I have Outlook 2007 and IE7 running on a W2K3 terminal server (in execute mode). Here is the specific problem I have: there is a link to a website that requires a login in the e-mail. I click on the link in the e-mail and I am taken to the correct site and prompted for log in. After logging in, I am redirected to the content referenced from the link in the e-mail. In the same message, I click on another link that should take me to different content on the same site, opened in a new tab. However, a new iexplore process is started and I am once again prompted to log in. After logging in again I am redirected to the correct content. How can I keep from having separate iexplore processes from opening? Here are some of the tests I've tried so far: 1. This works flawlessly on a WinXP Pro SP2 computer. 2. On the terminal server, if I copy the link in Outlook then manually open a new tab and paste the link - I am not prompted for another log in. 3. If I am using OWA the links work without a problem.     - Hang with Preview pane on I have a user who - only in the inbox mind you - has super slow response opening an email if the preview pane is on.     - editor options 2008 and Autocorrect Thanks. I know how to get to the AutoCorrect List and see my entires, but cannot mkae it wrok in Outlook. I go to Button->Editor Options where there are three listed... Popular, Proofing, and Advanced. I suspect that I need to check Proofing but both Proofing and Advanced do not reospnd to clicks.     - How Can Outlook be Linked to a Web Image? I am trying to send an email through Outlook that links to an image (a 1KB html file) on a Web site. To make the link, I went to Insert > Picture. In the Picture dialog box, I pasted the imageâ??s correct URL in the Picture Source field, and clicked OK. The image does not appear in the message body. To try to resolve the problem, I made changes in Outlookâ??s Security settings. In Options > Security, I opened Change Automatic Download Settings, and deselected 1) â??Donâ??t download pictures automatically in HTML email,â?? and 2) â??Warn me before downloading contentâ?¦â?? In Preferences > Junk Email, I deselected â??Donâ??t turn on links in messagesâ?¦â?? As a precaution, I added my email address and the Web site being used to the Safe Senders and Safe Recipients lists. I also lowered the Security Level under Zone Settings. None of these changes made a difference. The linked image still does not appear. I have confirmed that the URL is correct; the image opens when I go to it directly in IE. Am I missing a step?     - current view will not be saved Hi, One of my users is using outloop 2002 sp3. He tried to modify the view of "sent" folder in an archive folder. Fox example he removed the "Received" field and add "Sent" field. Everything looks good after he made the change. But if he close and re-open outlook, the view went back to the previous setting.     - Outlook 2003, Vista, and Windows Mobile Device Center = High CPU usage I wrote about the Outlook 2003 CPU usage problem a while back and so far have not found a solution. But I think I have narrowed down the problem. I removed my PST file and created a new one. I downloaded all of my email and then imported my contacts and tasks from the old PST. Outlook runs fine now on Vista. I then removed my sync settings for my cell phone and set that all up fresh again. After I got it all resynced Outlook is now back to constantly using 40%+ of CPU. It also will not shut down without killing it. And I am not syncing any more. My phone is not connected to the laptop. Yet Outlook uses the cpu. So it must me the new Windows Mobile Device Center that is not releasing Outlook. I do have Vista SP1 installed, too. Any ideas how to fix this?     - Outlook 2003 showing Red X in E-Mails with embedded pictures I am having some users who have an issue with outlook 2003 showing a Red X when they send an e-mail or received an e-mail with an embedded picture. If they forward the e-mail they then see the picture. I know there is a temporary solution by deleting the files in the temporary outlook folder (OLK).     - Sending from default account on replying from other accounts? Hi guys, I have a new email address that I have set as my default account (OL 07). When I send a new message, it automatically goes from this new email address. However, I am still receiving mail into my older accounts and when I reply to these I'd like to ensure they are also sent from my new email address. I've had a look at the various rules, but the only one that deals with replies is to reply using a template, and it just automatically sends a blank message without waiting for me to type anything. I'm not sure if this is possible, but it would be great if I could avoid having to manually set the account to send replies from.Thanks in advance for advice on how to achieve this. I've recently upgraded to Outlook 2007 and besides it running INCREDIBLY slowly, I have messages that stay open in my Taskbar long after I've closed or sent them. Anyone run into this?     - Outlook 2007 Calendar: Private by default I ran into a scenario where a user was running Outlook 2007, and needed every appointment to be marked as Private by default. Because the form differs so much between Outlook 2003 and 2007, Microsoft's published instructions (http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook/HA011456981033.aspx) do not apply at all to Outlook 2007. I had to figure this out on my own. Here is the procedure in case anyone out there needs this functionality: Outlook 2007: 1) Tools >> Forms >> Design A Form 2) Select Appointment, click Open 3) When the Form Designer comes up, look in the (All Fields) tab 4) At the top, Select from: All Appointment Fields 5) Scroll all the way down. Look at the field "Sensitivity".     - open attachment - viewing anoher email creates a copy Im using an IMAP account. When I have an attachment open, and then change emails in outlook to view another email, Outlook decides to create a second copy of the email with the open attachment, and "mark for deletion" the first email.     - Exporting Outlook Mailing Address to Excel ? I'm using Office 2003 on Windows XP. I have an Outlook contact database in which individual contacts may have more than one address, with the mailing address indicated via the "This Is The Mailing Address" indicator. However, when I try to export some basic details to Excel from Outlook, via Outlook's "Export To A File" function, when I get to "Map Custom Fields" this area does not appear to give me the option of stipulating 'Mailing Address'.     - Restoring > 4GB Outlook PST Good evening from Wisconsin, I have a user that uses Outlook 2003 on Windows XP Professional to access his POP3 account and over time his PST file has grown to just a hair over 4GB. Now when he starts up Outlook, he receives an error "Errors have been detected in the file <file_path>. Quit all mail- enabled applications, and then use the Inbox Repair Tool." Using the inbox repair tool doesn't work and cropping the PST before using the inbox repair tool still doesn't work. The file system is NTFS. I also copied the PST to a standalone test machine running Windows XP Professional with NTFS, and used it as a data file for a test profile I set up in Outlook 2003, with the same error. Doing the same on a different test machine running Windows XP Professional and Outlook 2007 also yields the same error. Are there any chances of recovering his older mail?     - Events change from all day to span over two days I have a series of events in Outlook 2003 calendar. They could be say, my shift roster which is a pattern of days and nights that repeat every ten days. They are set as All Day events. Some events might be annual events such as birthdays and others are public holidays. Recently, when I was scrolling down the calendar I discovered that some of the events had changed to span two days. I entered the event (a recurring one and I opened the series, rather than the individual occurance). I couldn't see where it was set to start at say, 1am on thursday and finish at 1 am on Friday. I merely entered the recurrance menu, had a look, saw that it was OK and then exited and saved. Nothing was changed. Yet, when I did this the event fixed itself, as did the events that followed in the series. It appears that something was corrupted. What, I don't know. But the events in question seemed to happen at the start of the series which commence in around November this year. Events prior to that were unaffected. Another poster here complained of a similar problem. And someone suggested time zone or similar changes. All I can think of is that Australia had an extra week of daylight savings for which Windows XP wasn't set up to deal with unless patches, which I was unaware of, were downloaded.     - Uninstalling Outlook Express 2007. I need to install a 2000, 2002 or 2003 version of Outlook Express so that my old organiser will synchronise. The computer originally had Microsoft Office Home and Student Edition installed.This installs Outlook Express along with the other Office programs and it cannot be uninstalled by itself. When I uninstalled Office it left Outlook behind and I cannot find any way to uninstall it. The old version of Outlook will not install because it sees the newer version still installed. I disabled Outlook using "Add or Remove Windows Components" but the old version still would not install. I have searched for a way to completely remove the 2007 version but have been unsuccessful.     - outlook2003: can't find MaxFileSize registry entry Hi! all, One of the users whom I support has reached the size limit for her .pst file. The KB #832925 tell me how to change the size limit but I was unable to find all entrys in the registry.     - Outlook won't send email I am using Outlook 2003. Account settings are correct and test message sends OK and I get a reply back. In outlook itself any message I type will not send.     - Can not receive emals in Outlook 2003 Very frustrated here. Can not figure this one out. have a laptop that cratered one me.. Windows XP.....I had to do a system restore from the beginning. Lost a lot but no biggie. Had Office 97 full version on it and then had the 2003 Office Upgrade. Had no problems before it crashed. Got everything fixed on the laptop. Got all the windows updated and went to upload the Office again and had problems right off the bat with 97. Couldnt find my default folders. Figured I had a Registry problem. Deleted 97 and then Went into Registry and renamed all the folders in Office to OLD. This allowed me to Load 97 again and then the 2003 upgrade. When I started 2003 I got an error "An error occured in the folder shortcuts file .fav Outlook will recreate the defualt folder shortcuts. " And I could do nothing. At this point I went to Control panel and deleted the program and then went to regedit again renamed everything and then loaded it all back up again. During the 2003 profiles being set up. Put in Pop3, SMTP strings passwords and emails address. In Tools, emails accounts. I did the test. Everything checks out. It sends and receives. I went to my hotmail to verify it is being sent and it works. I go to start a new email in Outlook.... As soon as I hit the Send/recieve button in the tool bar I get the error "You dont have permission to perform this operation. " However it DOES send the email... I just can not receive emails. I saw in other posts to change the outlook .SRS files. I did a search on my c drive of all files. hidden as well. I dont see any. I went to Documents and settings/Administrator/Application data/Microsfot/office/outlook and tried to see if the files were in the outlook folder. I can not open the folder and when I hover it says the folder is empty.l. I get the error that "Outlook is not accessible. Access denied." I did go to the Documents and setting and make sure the READ ONLY was NOT checked. Yet still having the problem. Can not receive mail and the errors. Any help would be greatly appreciated.     - Outlook rules and Junk Email filtering Hello! I have a problem with Outlook 2003 SP3 and the Junk Email folder. I have filtering set to Low, and I get emails from a contact page on a web site that always have the same subject. Sometimes, those messages end up in the Junk Email folder, sometimes they end up in the Inbox. I created a rule that says for any email with that subject, move it to the Inbox and stop processing more rules. The problem is that some of the messages STILL end up in the Junk folder. So, how can I stop the Junk Email filter from moving these messages? Is there some hidden way to make them stay in the Inbox? Can rules be scheduled to run? Thank you!     - Outlook & rules Hi... I hate rules management in Outlook! Firstly, ever since the first Outlook took to the skies, the handling of rules has been under pari by a tons of miles... First of all, if you switch your pst-file between two computers rules have a nasty habit of automatically ad "but for this computer only" to every rule, rendering them useless. To fix that one have to edit every rule one by one to uncheck this option. Secondly, to preserve rules you have to export them to a .rwz-file every time you make a new one, so they are reachable if you of some reasons need to use your PST-file in a new installation of Outlook. And after importing them you have to tediously edit each end every one of them again. Thirdly, if you want to run a rule from the rules dialog box, you have to click on each and every one of them to select them to be run. When you have more than a hundred rules that is a tedious task. A little button saying "select all" wouldn't find a better quest for life then just right there. Fourthly, if you close you default PST-file, and establish an new one, and then reopen the old one for transferring of data to the new one, ALL your rules are GONE!!! It's back to the tedious task of making new ones again. Especially if you didn't export first because you thought they were where you last had them Fifthly, en easy way to make a rule for outgoing mail from a rule for incoming is absent. When my friend mother Theresa send me a mail, I make a rule to move that to the folder where I want all the mail form that email address to be gathered. Then I want a copy of the mail I send her, to be saved in that same directory. With Outlook's crappy rules management I have to double my number of rules to do so. Sixthly, making rules is a painstakingly lasting task, and therefore shouldn't be that easy to lose. Seventhly, this are only some of the critics to the problem I have found so far, and nothing has been done to rectify this since early in the computer age in the last millennium. I have an Outlook 2003 client that when she escapes out of an e-mail and
Outlook asks if she wants to save the message she clicks Yes. But it brings
up the Save As dialogue box rather than just put the e-mail in the Drafts
Folder. We have the AutoSave items set to be Drafts folder but we can not
get Outlook to save unsent e-mails in the Drafts folder. Any thoughts?

Outlook doesn't have a password. Mail accounts (on the mail server) can
have passwords and PSTs can be password-protected. To which password do you
refer?
