    - 'Favorites' in Office 2003 on Terminal Server Hi, I just upgraded our Terminal Server to Windows 2003, and replaced Office 2000 with Office 2003. A lot of my users are now complaining they miss the 'Favorites' folder in the Open File dialog of both Excel and Word. I know how to add a custom folder, but I don't want every user to have to do this manually and I certanly don't want to do that for them. Is there any way to restore this favorites folder to the open/save file dialogs for everyone? I use kix, so a registry setting on logon would be an option, if someone has a sample script it would be perfect..     - Opening office on a network drive crashes network. Hi all, Replaced an old working ok network with all new equipment. Including a Server 2003 R2 DC. Unmanaged Switch. Linux gateway and 12 PC's. The only thing that still exists from old equipment is the cabling. Problem: When opening an Office 2007 document from a PC or notebook (from either in domain or standalone) from a network drive, it intermittently crashes PC's/server. Symptoms: If we're lucky it causes the PC to stop responding for 5 minutes before closing the Office application. When possible a restart will then render the PC usable again. Otherwise it will lock up the PC and every other PC connected on the network including the server. Sometimes waiting for a long enough period they can be normally restarted, otherwise hard rebooted. If I try to access any shares from the server, it says no Entries listed. Sometimes this is restricted to just the PC the office document was opened on, sometimes it says this for every PC in network. Access documents always have a highest crash rate. If the office document is copied to the local PC, it will open fine. Server Services: DC Filesharing DNS DHCP Group Policy NOD32 Enterprise V3.0 server Print sharing Troubleshooting steps so far: - Swapped the switch out. - Examined event logs, any errors or warnings logged are only caused from after the crash, not before or the actual crash time. - Changing the speed of the network(1GBps network) from Autosense to 100MBps Full Duplex. - Bringing an outside notebook with a different copy of Office 2007 on it, still crashes. - Replaced any suspicious network cabling. - Replaced the NIC in the server with a 100mbps NIC. - Disabled I/O acceration on NIC. - Disabled JUMBO frames on NIC. - Use the steps in KB 927695 to disable Receive Side Scaling (RSS). Also have disabled something else mentioned in a simlilar article. - Also disabled DHCPmediasense in arcticle KB 239924. - Disabled all non-default GPO's. - Copied the shared data drives to a local PC, setup logon script to access the local PC, this has minimised the crashes, but I have been told it has still crashed once or twice. - Uninstalled Office 2007 and installed Office 2003 on a machine, this also minimized crashes, but yet again I have been told it has crashed once or twice. - Examined data that is used/opened when the crashes occur, it can be any one document or database out of hundreds if not thousands. If this same data is taken to another similar network, the problem cannot be replicated. - Had other technician's examine the problem over a period of time in case I have missed something. My next step: - Unplug every PC/device on the network, plug in my personal notebook again and re-test. - Perform further testing on the PC with Office 2003. - Perform further testing with opening documents on the PC mapped network drive instead of the server one. BTW it crashes when opening documents from a UNC path too, not just a mapped drive. I will update further upon investigation to my next steps when possible.     - Renamed folders reverting back I'm using Outlook 2007. I have another mailbox listed in my Folder List. I have full rights in Exchange to the 2nd mailbox. The 2nd mailbox has multiple custom folders listed. If I rename one of these folders it will let me rename it but the name will change back the next time I close and re-open Outlook.     - Help Files, Office 2007 Plus ,problem The help files will not work. Message, " There is a problem with one or more installed help files. Please repair your Office installation and try again." I've done that on the first disk and also did a re-install. Then called where I bought it and they set new disk and Installed that after removing first install. Same problem. Tried repair, no good.     - Why i do not buy Office 2007 I am not buying Office 2007 for the reasons below. It may well be that I have been unable to find the workaround of these problems, therefore anybody who could enlighten me is welcomed: a) I cannot customize the ribbon. To use a keyboard shortcut I need to hit 5 keys in order to get there, while in 2003 office I could fix my own shortcuts with &X on the toolbar. b) I cannot use word for email editor in outlook. All autocorrect & autotext entries in normal.dotm are not available in NormalEmail.dotm & vice versa. Settings that exist in word do not exist in outlook editor. The function to record a macro doesnâ??t exist in the editor of outlook and the macros of word do not work in outlook. c) the way that the flags function in the new version is worthless. They all have almost the same color and if thhey had done it possible to customize the flags (to have a possibility of 25 customized flag colors), a user would use 5 flags to assign the same functions that exist now. d) dozens of more reasons which would make a book of this message.     - Bilingual Spell Check Office 2002 with Windows XP I create a lot of bilingual forms for my job where the spanish translation immediately follows the english. Currently I have to mark each language separately in order to prevent spell check from marking half the document as incorrectly spelled (or worse, trying to correct a spanish word to an english word). Is there any way to set the spell check or dictionary to automatically recognise words from both languages without me marking which is which?     - Slow Explorer Browsing for a file has suddenly become a pain. In Access, Word, Excel, when I click on 'file open' the system seems to hang for about a minute before the drive - file list displays. The system is doing something during this time; for example, if I try to open windows explorer after clicking 'file open' in Access, win explorer also takes a minute or so before listing the drive - filelist.     - Positioning text in a letter for use in a window envelopes When I write a letter using Word 2002 I type the address at the left side, in approximately the right place to appear through the envelope window (A4 paper, folded 3 times into DL envelope). However, the positioning is just that - approximate. I would like to be able to fix the address on the page so that it is always in the same place (between 55 and 87 mm from the top edge, and between 20 and 105 mm from the left edge). Then I could always fold the A4 page in the same way instead of using trial and error each time. I'm guessing that a template is the answer, with (perhaps?) a text box which would somehow confine the address text, though I am open to suggestions.     - How to change LZW compression format? Environment: Windows XP Pro Office 2003 and Office 2000 If we rotate a TIFF image file using Windows Picture and Fax Viewer it changes the compression format to LZW. We then upload our faxes (tiff files) to a 3rd party who rejects any images that use LZW compression. We then have to reformat these to a supported compression type. I have tried to find a way to change the default behaivior to not use LZW, but I can't find out. If I open Microsoft Office Document Imaging, and select Tools -> Options, then the Compression tab, there is a check box for LZW compression that is checked, but it is greyed out and I cannot uncheck it.     - Office 2007 Doc Quarantined by Exchange 2003 Antigen 9.1.1097 SP1 I have a document created with Word 2007 and saved as the standard docx extension. When it is sent via Outlook, Antigen on Exchange will quarantine it and classify it as Virus name: "UnwritableCompressedFile". If I save it as Office 2003 format, it does not get quarantined. I've even deleted all of the content from the document and it still gets quarantined. I've also tried copying the contents to a new docx file and it does not get quarantined. So there's something embedded in the doc that is causing this to occur. I need to find out what in order to advise users when they encounter this.     - office 2007 is horrid That ribbon is terrible - do NOT get 2007. Go get 2003. In fact, go get open office; it really does work much better than 2007. There is NO option for "classic view" a la other recent MS software upgrades. vista/xp/98 can all be viewed in a similar manner - WHY WHY WHY can't 2007 look like 2003 if the customer so wishes it? Oh, that's right, we've arrived at a point where there' no real improvement to be made on the existing software, so we've got to "update" everything and stop supporting the old, perfectly usable software. I suspect that this is just the result of a poor business decision made by some jerk engineer out to get promoted because of his "cool" new interface.     - This linked object problem must go beyond a Word problem I don't know if I'm not explaining the issue well or if it is just baffling everyone. I'm going to give it a whirl here.... - I just started using a new computer. I have WindowsXP and Word 2003. - Our office uses a file managment software through which we merge documents. the documents contain links to other documents that we use to insert letterhead, and atty info that will go into about 500 template documents. - when I start documents on this computer that have that link, and tell it to update the link, the link is inserted and the properties show it as a .pic. The link works, except it inserts in a box that takes up a whole page instead of the small space that it is in the original. When I try to adjust the size of the box, the text inside shrinks. - This is not happening on any other computer in our office, even if I login with my personal preferences. - for the record...to create the link, I choose "insert" from the toolbar, "objects", create from file, "filename" Link to file. Is there some setting in Windows that I'm missing? I haven't tried this with any other programs. I don't use others very often. I think I've looked at every option that might be relevant in the word tools and options. I can't find anything that makes this better. one final note...I'm a former die-hard Wordperfect user, and am relatively new to Word so I'm lost on macros and codes and such. I'm so frustrated.     - Office 2007 and templates with macro's that run in 2003 Hi, I'm currently testing office 2007 with our templates, specificly Word. These templates run OK in Word 2003, but in 2007 they dont run from a network share. The template it self runs, but the base template on which all of our templates are based returns an error. When the VB editor comes up, the base template is not reachable. The template is there in the folder. The template even comes up in the list of templates that are loaded. If I put the templates on my local machine everything is fine. Is there some kind of policy preventing the templates from working? I already trusted the location for the templates and Macro's are allowed (unsecure i know, but OK it works) If anyone has an idea....     - Spooler Subsystem App has encountered a problem and needs to close I get the following error when I try to print-"Spooler Subsystem App has encountered a problem and needs to close". I am running Windows XP Pro and recently installed Office Enterprise 2007. I never had this problem printing from Office Pro 2003 and the other people (3) on my network have no problem printing. I reinstalled Office and the print driver to no avail. The only way I can print is to restart the computer, go to Windows, System 32, Spooler, Printers, and delete the files, then go to the Temp folder and delete the files, then turn off the computer, reset the print server, reset the printer, spin in my office chair three times, turn on the computer, (removing all sharp instruments and blunt objects from the area while it boots), and then maybe, if I'm lucky, I can print a page or two before it locks up and I need to start the process over again.     - Licensing. Have a question about licensing for Office 2003. Most of the computers at our company have office 2003 professional installed, though only the following applications. Word, Excel Outlook, We have licences for ALL of the computers but for Office 2003 Basic which contains those same applications (word, excel, outlook) Now the question is. Do we have to uninstall-and install office basic with those license keys that we have? or in an event of an audit and we have 2003 pro (only with word, excel and outlook) but we have 2003 basic licenses will we get in trouble? My company is interested in using Themes to apply their (very specific) brand
to all their Office documents. They also wish to remove most, if not all of
the built-in themes/colours/fonts that are shipped with Office. Where can I
find some guidance on the best way to do this please. Thanks
