New computer and new software -- so wanting to organize DOCUMENTS and I'm
given a choice of New Folder or New Briefcase....but can find nothing
anywhere to explain what a briefcase is in that context. HELP

Briefcase is for "mobile" documents(between two PC's). It has no
connection with Office. If you make a "New Briefcase" and then double
click it to open it and read the dialog box that is offered, it should
resolve your question. As for organizing, make New folder and name it to
suit taste.
