I have just installed MS Office 2007 on drive C. I kept MS Office 2003
installed where it was on drive D. I want my documents, spreadsheets, etc.,
that I currently have to open with Office 2003 until I get accustomed to 2007.

How do I set up Office 2003 as my default application for these files?
Office 2007 has taken over and even when I change the "Open With" to Office
2003, 2007 still takes precedence.

Thank you,
Cheri

Start the 2003 component then open the relevent doc - is a workaround
The later version will take precedence

Thanks DL. I was hoping I didn't have to do it that way. You see, I have
the file in the Quick Launch toolbar at the bottom of my page. Funny thing
is, the WORD icon in my Quick Launch toolbar opens 2003 Word. Weird!

I think it may have to do with my opening the Excel file from 2003 in 2007.
It seems to have attached itself and all other Excel files to 2007 after
having done that.

If you open a doc from explorer it will open in the later version.
As you did a parrallel install the Office 2003 shorcuts would I have thought
remained in place.

As you found, both versions "fight" for ownership of the file association.
For Word take a look at this article and the section titled "Fixing the
Multiple Office Lag":
http://pubs.logicalexpressions.com/pub0009/LPMArticle.asp?ID=762

I'm not sure if there is a similar Reg hack for Excel but I know the Send To
workaround (covered in the Caveats! section) will work for Excel.
