Correct. You need Outlook (or some other Calendar application) to have
reminders pop up. If you are using Vista, then Vista has Windows Calendar
built-in. Or, you could use Sunbird, a stand-alone calendar application from
Mozilla, which does things like emailing reminders, which Outlook doesn't
do.
