I have a winxp box and win2k box both connected to a new Netgear DG834G
wired router.
My printer is connected to a USB port? on the winxp box.
Windows 2000 can see Winxp in My Network places, and with winxp's
firewall enabled, cannot see the printer. So I disable the firewall and
printer is found ok.
What do or can I do to put this right: change a setting in the router,
or install a different firewall?
Also, and this is maybe unrelated, Winxp cannot see either itself or win2k.

Thanks

Update here:
The printer problem was down to a seting I had in windows firewall,
using gpedit.msc. I changed that particular setting to reflect the new
IP address and it works ok now.

I still don't know why WinXP can't see either itself nor win2k in My
Network places.

Yep just got one sorted as well. I found some info that said it was down
to computer browser conflict. So I turned off the browser on my win2k
box, rebooted both machines and hey presto, both machines can see each
other again.
