I'm running a Windows 2000 Server with IIS 5.0 hosting a few websites
behind a Cisco Local Director. Occasionally, following what seems to
be no specific pattern, the Server will drop off the network entirely,
not pingable at all, however, when I view the console, there appears
to be nothing wrong with it except for the fact that it has lost it's
network connection. However, the NIC still says that it's connected.
It doesn't appear to be a hardware issue because this is the second
server that I've put in this position and the exact same behavior has
occurred. Also, I have been able to clear this at least once by
shutting down the switch port it is connected to and then starting it
back up again.

I can only think that there must be some sort of issue with the amount
of traffic and possibly something shutting down the interface,
although I just can't believe that is the expected behavior. Has
anyone experienced this before or have any ideas on the best ways to
possibly debug this?

Thanks in advance for any assistance,
Lone
