Incorrect Alternate DNS Server

Hello,


We recently removed a W2K Server that was acting as a secondary DNS
server. We then added a new w2003 server and made it the DNS server.

When I look at individual workstations on the network I see that they
still see the old server and register it for the alternate DNS server

The old DNS server does not show up in Active Directory Sites &
Services. I did not see anything in DHCP. Between the primary &
secondary servers the replication looks like it is working fine.

They don't register it at all to begin with, that is not what happens. For
static non-DHCP clients you have to change them yourself. For DHCP Clients
they will get the updated settings when they update their DHCP
Lease,...assuming you corrected the Scope(s). The default Lease period is 8
days. Leases are renewed at 50% of the lease period (4 days). Sometimes it
renews when the client reboots,...or you can manually release/renew it
yourself on each machine manually one at a time.

Clients do not get anything concerning this from AD. What you are seeing
(or not seeing) here doesn't mean anything.

Clients with fixed ip's you have to reconfigure with the new DNS ip on the
NIC properties.

Also the DHCP scope options you have to reconfigure with the new ip address
to update the clients after the renewal of the address, which starts the
first time at the half of the lease time you have configured or you restart
the machine and it will then renew its address.

Thank you everyone for the response, it was just the DHCP scope.
