 - DHCP Client Have Windows XP SP2 with all the avaliable updates (critical and optional) installed. My laptop connected to a Windows SBS 2003 network with DHCP server at work and gets the IP address of 192.168.0.56 I take it home and plug it into home network, which also uses DHCP, and I get a new IP address 192.168.0.102. However, when I bring it back (shutdown and start) to the office and connect it to the network, I logon to my laptop and it takes forever to load my personal settings (10 minutes) and I do not have a roaming profile setup. Not only that, I cannot access the network or internet. as it turns out, the IP address from my home network is not being released and I am not able get get an ip address from my server at work. Once I performed ipconfig /release then ipconfig /renew, then I am able to get the new IP and can access my network. I had this laptop setup as computer name ABC at one point. Then I formatted it and reinstalled everything and called it XYZ. Don't think this has anything to do with it. What is causing this problem and what is the solutions?  - Printer shares require username and password? I am having a problem with a simple XP pro (SP2)system (server) when I set the printer to share over the network on the client machine I can see the server but the printer share does not show up! when I try to add a network printer. If i type in the path to the printer ie:\\server\lexmarkE the client computer replies with a logon asking the username and password.  - net use /persistent does not work anymore Hi, I used a mapping of the lpt2: port from a workgroup member computer with XP Home to a share of a domain member computer with XP Professional for a long time and it worked without problems. Now I had to replace this XP Professional computer by a Vista Professional computer. I used the same net use command and, as long as I don't restart the XP Home computer, the mapping works and I can print. This shows that there is no general problem with the Vista computer. The problem comes when I restart the XP Home computer. After restart a net use command on the XP Home computer shows me the mapped port, but with a "not available" in front of the line. Note that the "not available" is translated by me from the german version (the string there is exactly "Nicht verfgb") and may not match the string of the english version exactly. In order to narrow the problem I mapped a drive share on the Vista computer with net use * \\VistaComputer\share /savecred /persistent:yes on the XP Home computer and a second drive share on a NT computer with the same command. Note that I have to include credentials because the XP Home computer is not a member of the domain of the other two computers (XP Home computers cannot become domain members). Both shares are available after the net use command finished. After a restart net use shows me both shares but again with "Nicht verfgb" ("not available"). Although the first impression was that the Vista computer may be a problem the second test shows that something must have changed on the XP Home computer at the same time as I replaced the old XP Professional computer by the Vista Professional computer. It seems that the XP Home computer cannot either store the credentials or login to the domain during startup anymore. It would help me if somebody can explain where a persistent connection is stored in XP Home and how I can log the connection attempt. Now I made a recovery so that I have a really clean XP Home system now. Device manager is OK, no warnings or errors, system event log is OK, no warnings or errors, sfc /scannow completes without prompts for the setup CD. But a logged startup shows not loaded drivers.  - "Log On" required? My wife's new computer is visible in the "View Workgroup PC's" (but not My Network) but when I click it I get a "Log-On" window. That PC is not password protected, it just comes on when you start. It has no firewall, (XP SP1) I tried leaving it blank, no luck. When I right-click>Properties a "BONK" ..."You do not have access to this sever, contact network admin..." I am the "Admin" how do I get past this?  - Can't Map a drive after VPN'd in Hello Guru's I am having a problem using the CMAK tool and mapping network drives. I want a one click fits all for my VPN users. A file I can send them without having to walk them through an install and setting up tedious stuff like map network drives. I want the CMAK to do it for them. I am having a problem setting this up. I have hit some problems having the mapped network drive function and some general network connectivity. Ideally what I ultimately want to have happen is the CMAk tool auto map a network drive right after the connection is established. With some users I may also want a routing table update. So what I currently have is the CMAK tool logging in successfully then I have a script set to run on "Post-Connection". Here is the script, a simple batch file. net use m: "\\172.16.0.100\Company Files" Now when the script runs it says the network path is invalid. Even though you can browse to it with the same path. Also I originally wanted people to connect to the shares via the Ethernet interface 172.16.0.2. It won't let me do that and says that the path is not found, even though you can ping it after the VPN has been established. It only lets you open a network share via the PPP interface, 172.16.0.100. Seems dumb to me. Any how back to the point, when the script runs Post Connection it says network path not found. If you wait however like 15 seconds and manually run the command it works. My question is, why won't it work right after the VPN is established like CMAK is suppose to do? Also Why cant I map a network drive to 172.16.0.2, why only the PPP interface?  - Computer on Network Can't See Itself I have two computers on my Windows XP Home network. One is a desktop computer, which is connected by Ethernet cable to my DSL modem/router. The other computer is a laptop computer, which has a wireless adapter. For several years, I have been able to share files between the two computers. Now, however, when I go to My Network Places / Microsoft Windows Networks and select my network name, I cannot see the laptop computer from either the desktop computer or the laptop computer itself. However, from both computers, I can see the desktop computer in the network, and I can share the desktop computer's files. Internet access from the laptop computer is fine, and both computers respond to pings from the other. My wireless router sees the name of my laptop computer. I tried turning the Windows XP firewall off on both computers, but the problem persists. I am not running any other firewall software. I have run the Network Setup Wizard several times on each computer, and file sharing is still enabled for my folders on the laptop computer.  - Download crashes I run XP SP2, wireless connecction via Belkin adapter/extender to Belkin router. After having problems with the connection, it seems to be sorted after repairing Windows and re-installing Belkin software. I also run Norton Systemworks Now downloads, incl Norton and MS updates, start off fine and then crash after quickly decreasing download times. I have tried to repair XP, Belkin re-install , and new network connections. I have tried the Firewall/Anti-virus on/off. I have put in the IP address manually as well as auto. I have tried Dial-a-Fix, System Mechanic, and a Winsock repair. Emails seem to download ok but webpages and updates slow the system to a crash. I did manage up update Ad-Aware, which found 3 minor bits, but nothing serious. The same with Defender tho I was unable to update its definitions. Oddly, I found that Ad-Aware, Defender and even Wireless Services disabled themselves, tho I could put them back to Auto. What do I have left to do other that an XP clean re-install?  - mapped drive problems i have written the following into a shortcut for the program to open from the mapped drive in shortcut properties c:\premier9\myobp.exe m:\Clearwtr.myo where c:\ is the workstation's hard drive, and m:\Clearwtr.myo is the name of the data file and the letter name of the mapped drive. Start in: c:\Premier9 I also placed a script in users start folder: net use M: \\computername \data /y But when i open the programs shortcut it does not open the mapped drive and I need to search for it. And the logon script does not create the mapped drive. I am needing to add this in explorer myself. the mapped drive opens otherwise on the users PC without any problem.  - Windows XP Roaming Profiles I have a home network of 4 PC's and I wish to set up roaming profiles so that users can log in at any computer and still be able tot access their documents and settings. When I go to the Microsoft Support website, they give you instructions on how to do it, but they are not correct, they do not work. I know that people think you need to have a server in order to do this, but you don't. You can use your Workgroup for Roaming Profiles.  - Help with XP networking I am trying to get a small peer-to- peer network set up for file sharing. I can get everything working with the ipx/spx protocol but not with tcp/ip. There are 4 Windows XP Pro computers connected through a Lynksys router and a DSL modem that connect to the Internet fine. Someone previously installed Windows Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) and this may be what is preventing the computers from connecting to folders on other computers and even seeing themselves in 'My Network Places'. I ran the XP Networking Wizard but it keeps saying that I am connecting through ICS no matter what I select. I have tried stopping/disabling the Firewall/ICS service but this doesn't change anything. The DSL modem apparently requires a username and password but when I try setting up a new manual connection this way I can't even connect to the Internet. How do I uninstall ICS? Could the problem be the Internet Gateway software? Do I need ICS for some reason even though there is a router? I have never worked with ICS or networking DSL before so I feel a little lost.  - Downloading wallpaper/backgrounds Hey all - We are on a domain with user profiles. The student user profile is restricted from changing the background on the desktop with the typical right click of the mouse and clicking on properties. However, if they go to a web site that has downloadable backgrounds/wallpaper they can download a background and save it to the desktop. Of course, if I log onto the machine with the student ID I can't change the background to change it back to the default. If I log on as administrator the desktop is the default and doesn't have the picture that was downloaded. How do I find out what type of file extension the downloaded background has?  - Windows Crash - Network issue Hi, we have a PC which has two hard drives in it C: which is designed local drive and contains the Windows Installation system folder; and Drive F which is the network shared drive which is accessed by two other computers./ The Windows installation got corrupted, and we have to do a clean reinstall. Having done that, although io can see the F drive, and it has the correct drive name, I cannot access any of the file from the Drive C with the new Windows installation.  - XP Host - Vista Client On Adhoc Network Hello, I have a problem and I really don't understand where is the problem. I have 2 laptops (wifi ready). The server is XP SP2, the client Vista Home Premium. the XP is wired connected to internet and I intend to connect Vista to internet through XP using an ad-hoc network. After I created the ad-hoc network on XP, in the list of available wireless networks i found my ad-hoc network. Vista can see the SSID (with WEP) too, but... and I try to connect from Vista to XP is not working at all! The set the 192.168.0.1/255.255.255.0 ip on the xp's wireless adapter, and 192.168.0.2/255.255.255.0 on the vista's wireless adapter; the ICS is enabled, firewall disabled, Norton Secutity uninstalled, same workgroup and so on... My question is: Where is the problem? On XP - is not capable to accept connections? Vista is not capable to connect at an ad-hoc network? On XP in event viewer I found "Association status : Fail 0x00038002" and 0x00028002 Can somebody tells me what I have to do to solve that problem?  - Dell Laptop Network issue I have a Dell B120 Laptop. It was plugged into the wall and DSL internet during a thunderstorm. I heard a pop and now cannot connect to the internet. The laptop still recognizes the card but when a cable is installed it still states a cable is unplugged. Is the card bad? I have tried different cables and my DSL carrier states their equipment is fine. If the card is bad can I not just buy another network card for the pcmcia slot?  - Lost My Shared Folders I have a small home network, and I had a network shared folder on the desktop, and mapped to that folder on my laptops. All was working great, until a couple of days ago. Now I cannot get to the shared folder, says An error occurred wile reconnecting S: to \\XLd01\network share Microsoft Windows Network : The network path was not found. The connection as not been restored. The only change that I can think might affect is that I tried to setup an FTP site on my machine (failed dismally). I have deleted that, although I still have the IIS settings, but that seems to be the same timeframe. Any suggestions as to how I can track down the problem. I have XP Pro.  - Linksys router, 2 Desktops, Win 2000 and XP Network Issue Hello, I have a Linksys Router 4 ports in the back with one Desktop witn Win2000 and another one with Win XP Home. What i'm trying to do is create a network where the two computers can share one folder. Now i have both computers on the same workgroup! They both are assigned an IP automatically and one is 192.168.1.100 (win2000) and XP one is 192.168.1.101. With the Win2000 i can ping it self but i cannot ping the XP computer. With the XP computer i can Ping the Win 2000 computer, but i cannot ping that computer at all! Both Firewalls are turned OFF, no antivirus software ON on XP or win2000. with Win 2000 i can see the Entire Network and see my workgroup and both computers. I can access the Win2000 computer, but i cannot access the XP one. Weird part is if i take my Laptop that has Win Xp Pro on it, and i use a crossover cable to connect from laptop to win2000, sharing and everything works effortlessly and also when i connect my laptop to XP sharing and everything works.  - Frequent time-outs (?) on library Wi-Fi On the free wi-fi connection at the library I often get "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage". AFAICT nothing wrong either with my laptop or any website - but probably because the routers seem to have very large latencies as somebody mentioned - some others have this problem too. This happens at random for any website. Refreshing the page mostly gets everything working again. I do not have this problem using free wi-fi at other locations. Is there some setting in the registry that will increase the time-out period? And/or what other factors do I need to look into? Regards and thanks for any insights.  - Offline files and old servers This is most frustrating and if somebody knows the solution, i would greatly appreciate it. Mobile users use offline files for their redirected "My Documents" I have decommissioned some servers and no matter what I do, offline files still remembers those servers and tries to sync with them. I have: Deleted the Offline cache, rebooted.....no good. Deleted offline cache, turned off offline files, rebooted, re-enabled offline files....no good Deleted offline cache, turned off offline files, rebooted, located the references to the old server in the registry, reboot, turned offline back on....no good This is especially frustrating when a user changes office locations and attempts to sync across the WAN. I am in the process of moving user folders to a DFS share, but the damn thing will still try and sync with the original server as well as the DFS share. I am about to use one of my free Professional support incident with Microsoft from my Technet Subscription and make Bill solve this.  - SHARE EPSON STYLUS CX4900 SCANNER WITH NETWORK COMPUTERS I've shared the EPSON STYLUS CX4900 SCANNER with my network computers. I can print from all the computers but I can only scan from the computer that the EPSON STYLUS CX4900 SCANNER is connected to (via USB). The computers are networked via a router (MEGA 105WR).  - router assigns IP address but no gateway This is driving me crazy, I am sure there is an easy explanation but I can't find it. Sorry to post here but there isn't any group I can find for Windows2000 in older versions and I figured XP is probably the closest. So.. Friend asked me to help with son's computerthat was working fine hooked up wirelessly to Zyxel router but stopped. Linksys USB adapter found router, IP address assigned, no gateway. Four other computers are using router wired/wirelessly with no problem. So I reinstalled wireless adapter, then changed wireless adapter to another brand, again same thing, no gateway. Tried to do a wired LAN, same thing, no gateway. Tried fixing IP stack, static IP, manually configuring gateway, reserved IP on router by MAC address. The router sees the network adapter in every case so it must be the computer. It is running Windows 2000. No firewalls, can't ping router altho it connected to it because it gave it an IP address and shows up in the dhcp table on the router. This is driving me crazy, why doesn't it assign the gateway! Any ideas? I am sure it is obvious but I have run out of ideas. Any help would be appreciated. Am I missing some protocol? But it was working before.  - lost network connections after installing service pack 1 need help asap. Installed winxp on my son's pc. everything was working fine-had internet and email through a network with linksys router and dsl modem. then installed service pack 1 and lost my network connection. It shows the connection and other computers on the network but cannot access internet,mail or shared folders. If I un-install service pack 1-it works fine again but then cannot run certain programs like itunes.  - How do I get winxp file sharing to work? My network consisted of destop and two wirelessly connected laptops all running winxp pro. File sharing worked fine, with all computers being able to see all the drives of all the other computers. Today I added another wirelessly connected laptop (IBM ThinkPad) to my network using the same workgroup name (simple file sharing). The ThinkPad can now see all the other drives on the other 3 computers. From explorer on the other computers, I go to Entire Network, then Microsoft Windows Network, then my workgroup name, and I see all the computers on the network including the new ThinkPad. However when I click on it I get the error message: \\ThinkPad is not accessible. You might not have persmission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. The remote server has been paused or is in the process of being started. I made sure that File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks was enabled, and I had set the root directory of the c drive as sharable with write access and even set one of the subdirectories as sharable as well just to make sure it wasn't a problem with the root directory. I even tried adding the protocol "NWLink IPX/SPX/NetBIOS Compatible Transport Protocol" since I saw a tip that suggested it, to no avail. Explorer still gives the same frustrating error message. Since the error message mentioned a paused process, I ran "what's running" on the thinkpad and all the processes (including the svchose.exe processes) look reasonable to me. I've also uninstalled the virus protection software, again to no avail. I don't know if it is relevent, but I can ping the ThinkPad from the other computers no problem (using its network address), and of course the ThinkPad can also ping the other computers in the network. I'm completely out of ideas. Does anybody have any ideas for me. If so it would be much appreciated, as I've already wasted 5 hours working on this problem.  - Browsing Network Folders Causes problems Dear All, Recenlty, when I'm browsing network folders, either from a shortcut on my desktop, or putting in \\computername in explorer.exe, sometimes it will just sit there, and I'll have to endtask explorer.exe or only before I had to reset the machine as it locked up.... or it actually caused my machine to reset... it has me stumped......Any reg settings or network setting I can check, maybe a program I've recenlty installed (I've installed a few over the past few days) might have changed something..... I've switch "Computer Browser" in services to Manual (as a website suggested it) I've also see in the Event Viewer "The browser was unable to retrieve a list of servers from the browser master \\SERVER on the network \Device\NwlnkNb. The data is the error code. Event ID 8021" Can anybody point me in the right direction, before I opt for the easy way out and do a re-install from a ghosted image... Regards Paul. My question is, should I place the logon script in the administrators start folder rather a single user, on the PC acting as the server for the data? Or just a user start folder?  - Remote Desktop General Question - New Bee I have a large laptop in my home office. It is running XP Media Editions verson 2002, SP2. I want to buy a ultra portable laptop for on the road, with a Verizon air card, and access my home laptop remotely. My home laptop is on bellsouth DSL, using a 2wire homeportal 1700hw. I have two home laptops on the same DSL connection and homeportal. Is it possible to access my large home laptop from the road with my ultra portable using a Verison card? Any ideas on the response time? I have read several help topics and Internet tutorials on on Remote Desktop Connection but have not gotten far. Can someone point me to an article, some tips, something to get me started? My thought was to get the my two laptops (same DSL connection and home portal) working with RDC first, then buy the Verision card and get RDC to work, and then buy the ultra portal.  - ICS internet access problem A wierd one here ! Upgraded my WIN98 pc to XP and it connected to the internet fine via the cable modem. Reloaded several times to confirm all was ok then switched ICS on so that my other pc's could use the internet. This connection is via a second NIC feeding a 3COM 24 port switch. All other pc's - XP desktop, WIN 98 laptop and Win 2K laptop now connect to the internet ok, BUT, the main pc, ie the one which connects to the internet and through which all the others route, now will no longer connect to any web sites..... I can ping external ip addresses from the main pc and get a response ok, but trying to connect to any web site using I.Explorer or Firefox I get "can't find the server", email access attempts get a similar response. The win XP firewall is disabled and I get the same response with zonealarm disabled. THe other pc's work fine ! Seen a few people on the internet asking about the same problem but never any solutions. Any help/advice please as this is driving me mad............. Thanks. File sharing is turned on, folders have been shared. #2 can't see #1 in Network Places. When path is entered in the Run command field "The network path was not found" error is returned. First of all, let me say that I am not sure which newsgroup I should post this message, I am using the shotgun approach, in crossposting this message to 5 newsgroups, trying to look for the solution to solve my problem. If this is not the correct newsgroup to post my question, please accept my sincerest apology. With the above done, here's my problem. In the office we use our notebook to access the Net via WIFI. Normal web operations post no problem. We can go to any site, do anything. Satisfactory speed too. Downloading files normally don't post any problem as well. Depending on the speed originating server (where files are residing), files normally downloaded without any fuss. For large files, such as ISO files (680+ MB in size), we often use download managers to expedite the task. Again, normal file downloading posts no problem. However, whenever we try to access file-sharing servers such as RapidShare or MegaUpload or whatever, things slow down to a crawl, and sometimes downloads just DIE in the middle. Since we can't use download managers in downloading files from the likes of RapidShare, we have no control over how the file transfer process would be done. Often files would be successfully downloaded, albeit V_E_R_Y S_L_O_W !! But many times, the file transfer process slows to such an extend it just STOPS !! I mean, the thing just grind to a halt in the middle, and there's no way around it other than re-download the file. This has been a very frustrating experience. The WIFI router is LinkSys, we set up according to the owner's manual. So far, we don't see any weirdness about the router. We have checked the settings of the WIFI router several times, again, we found no clue as to what is going on. BTW, if we use the DESKTOP PC, which is connected to the Net via ADSL, to download files from RapidShare, the problem of S_L_O_W_N_E_S_S didn't happen. And ten times out of ten we can download ANY FILE of ANY SIZE (up to 100MB) from RapidShare without a hitch ! I know that we can use the "sneaker + USB-drive net" to get around the problem, ie, download the files from RapidShare on the desktop PC, copy the files to the USB drives, and then transfer the files into our notebooks. And often times we had to do that, when we are frustrated enough on the "die in the middle" events. But all in all, we would preferred that we can find a solution to solve this S_L_O_W_N_E_S_S problem. Dear Gurus, Do you have any suggestion as to how to solve this problem? Please help !!  - DNS resolver problem (?) with XP systems on home LAN (long) Background: I have several XP Home/Pro systems on my home LAN. All have private, hard-coded IP addresses (192.168.1.x). There is a ZyXel hardware firewall/VPN router between my LAN and my ISP's cable modem. The ZyXel gets a DHCP-assigned IP address from the ISP (Comcast), but nothing else. Specifically, it doesn't have the ability to retrieve the addresses of Comcast's DNS Servers, and thus it's not possible for it to propagate those addresses to my LAN systems. Thus, I have to hard-code the DNS server addresses on my home systems. But that's worked OK for several years. The problem(s): Last week, Comcast apparently changed their DNS servers (I can no longer ping the old ones). No big deal, except that Comcast now refuses to give me the addresses of their new DNS servers!!! (although Time Warner - who I had been with before Comcast bought them out last year - happily gave out their DNS server addresses). So I used nslookup to poke around and find the addresses of what I think are Comcast's new DNS servers. But when I configure my home systems to use those DNS server addresses and then ping a host by name (eg, www.rice.edu) the name resolution fails*, although I can use nslookup to resolve that same name! (and I can ping the DNS servers by their addresses) * that is, it gets an error trying to resolve the name, even before attempting to issue the ping. Thinking that Comcast's servers were doing something strange, I configured a home system to use one of the Root DNS servers at VeriSign, but the name resolution still fails when I try to ping anything by name So, if I can resolve names using nslookup, then why can't XP resolver do the same? Are there XP firewall settings that might be blocking the DNS server replies (although if that were true, then why doesn't it block nslookup and why did it just now begin failing?) Were there any recent Windows Updates to the XP resolver? And what settings should I be using for the "Append DNS suffixes" on the DNS tab of the Advanced TCP/IP Settings? And also for the registration-related checkboxes at the bottom of that tab? I've never really understood what these did in my configuration.  - Solve mystery... got wireless, noticed anti-virus disabled twice The story... I just installed the basic Linksys WAP54G wireless access point (on WinXP-pro PC). We have simple systems here, all it really is for at moment is to connect to kids' Wii...so it can retrieve, weather, firmware updates, etc. I'm using a good security I think WPA-AES (I think), and password, and disabled SSID broadcast (after this happened). While setting up wireless, I noticed have maybe 5-6 neighbors with wireless, recognized 1 or 2, everybody mostly works, certainly no computer-saavy teenagers, although one's military (great neighbor), and one (adult) is a little odd and known to do web stuff, but he's 700 feet away (3 houses down). But I noticed over the next week or two, twice when I went to use PC in morning (sometimes left on all night, sometimes shut down)... McAfee was displaying a warning... something like "Warning your PC is not protected"... then when went into McAfee to look at settings under its 4 or so protection categories... Computers and Files * Internet/Network Email and IM Parental *The Computers and Files was "disabled", this I think is the one that instant-scans ANYTHING incoming... like files I open, programs I execute, etc. I turned it back "on" both times, and once did a McAfee full scan, it said all ok, except for usual cookies. Adaware didn't find anything either. The questions... Wondering if anyone has opinions on these things, plus welcome any additional comments...  - How to force using specific connection Is there an easy way to force XP to use one connection always? I tried disabling others, but it still tries to access them. Manipulating routing table would do it, but I have repeat the operation few times a day, so I need a quick way to implement it. The problem is that even though only one of the connections is active, XP tries randomly all the others and I have to repeat e.g. opening up web page 1-30 times before connection is established.  - Cannot aquire network address on second computer I'm trying to set up a network in my home without having to buy expensive equipment. We currently have a broadband connection with two induvial computers. My plan is to set up a network for these computers so they gain access to the internet via the modem and an 8-port switch. Before I got started, the desktop computer worked fine, then once I hooked up the switch and connected the second computer, I could not get a connection. The switch I have boasts plug-and-play capabilities, but I just am not able to get both of the computers online at the same time. I've tried just about everything I can imagine (i.e. checking cables, connections, reseting the modem, ect.) and all I get is a prompt stating that the conncection is limited.  - Can't connect to the internet I have three machines that I use through my Linksys router, two desktops (wired) and one laptop (wireless). One of my desktops (running XP SP2) can suddenly no longer make a connection to the internet or download e-mail in Outlook. It is able to talk to the router and can see the other computers attached to it, but can't make an internet connection. The other two machines are having no problems. Surprisingly, a gnutella-based file sharing application that I have running on the maching still can make a connection and exchange files. I have tried all of the usual fixes...checked cables, replaced cables, rebooted the PC, powered down the router and the cable modem, bypassed the router and wired directly into the modem, even unplugged the ethernet cable going into the PC and plugged it directly into the laptop (internet worked fine on the laptop).  - Reactiontime opening a word document out of word or within explore Dear experts, in our area we use Windows XP SP2 and Windows Server 2003 R2. All components use the latest patches and service packs. There is a network share which is locally mapped using a driveletter. When we try to open a word document (doc-file) by using the command "File - open" out of word, navigating to the document on the shared drive the doc is opened quickly at all times. When the user navigates to the shared drive (using the drive letter) and just left-clicks the document in windows explorer it takes longer than a minute while ms word opens up and loads the document. This happens 5-10 times, then things go a lot faster for a while and then it takes longer again. Any ideas how to solve that problem ? We currently do not have any error reports in eventlog, nor any other phenomens. All the systems are working good, except that one problem. Would appreciate any suggestions for further diagnostics.  - Remove item hkey_local_machine I downloaded a software called My Lock Box from the Kim Kommando show. Its empty at the moment - I have not put any files in the Lockbox. But my system sees it as a spyware. I keep getting a message" "Spyware Item Location hkey_local_machine\system\currentcontrolset\enum\root\legacy_mprifl" Can someone pls help me how to remove this. im having network connection with a server and 12 client computers one of my
computer is showing the connection is connected with 100mbps but in the
status its only receiving the data not sending at all, sending data is 0
always. when i connect other wire its ok. i checked with crimping also i
tried almost 10 rj45 connector but the problem is same but whn i used it with
different existing wire it shows me ok.. sending & receiving data are
perfectly alright please help me in this.. thnx.

If receiving or sending is 0, it could be incompatible issue. You may want
to check any new driver for the NIC or re-configure NIC speed. This post may
help too.
