LAN question re "others logged on to computer"

I periodically get a messasge "other people are logged on to your computer;
shutting down will cause them to lose their information" "Do you still want
to shutdown?" I get this message when I shut down both my computers which
happened to be LANed. Does anyone know if this is common? It strikes me as an
unusual message.

I see it on my computers, too, when I'm sure that no one else is
logged on. I think it's a bug in Windows XP.

This will happen if you have "Fast User Switching" enabled and more than
one user has locally "logged on" to the computer. If when you Click the
Start button and then click Log Off, you are given the options either to
"Switch User" or "Log Off," you have Fast User Switching enabled.

Hi
Other people can also means â??Other Yousâ?? ;). I.e. open connections between
the computers/users.
Therefore, if you are a sole user and does not have an open Wireless Network
you should not be too alarmed.

Agreed. It is best to disable this service if not needed. For one thing it
confuses people into thinking they have logged-off, when in fact they
haven't, they've just returned to the Welcome screen. This can lead to
unclosed files not being saved.
