Have been using a dial up for many year. XP with 3com megahertz Lan +
56K Ethernet interface. Everything has been running fine. Until I
recently installed a new driver for my Atheros wifi adapter. Since then
I can not get my 3Com to work.

Check the device manager which says everthing is fine and working. When
I try to use system network page show connecting.... but it just times
out. Have another disk I can put in and it works.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Try to download and install the latest drivers for your 3com.

This is a modem/lan PCMCIA card correct? Which device can you not get to
work? the modem or LAN? If Lan then you have to disable the WIFI card because
it is a Lan card as well and may have a conflict with IP addresses, either
that or changed the IP address on the LAN card. If it is the modem then have
you gone into device manager and run a diag on the modem, double click the
modem in device manager single click the diag tab and run query, what is the
response. Have you tried to disable the WIFI card and try again? Have you
tried to install the card in another laptop and tested it?

Thanks for the assistance.
Yes, it is a PCMCIA card. Modem card gives problem, have not tried lan.
Have checked device manager and all system checks say the modem if
functioning properly. The WIFI is internal but I did try the on/off switch.

I am starting to think it might be one of the drivers I have loaded.
When I have time I am going to try to uninstall some and see what happens.

Again, thanks for the assistance.

Is your Atheros WiFi adapter also PCMCIA? And which version of the
driver did you update with? Atheros does not normally have a WiFi
card. They make the chips which other manufacturers use (like D-Link,
SMC and others.)
