i have 2 different xp pro pc's on 2 different networks that can't ping the
network attached printers on those networks. other workstations can ping the
printers and these 2 workstations without a problem. these 2 workstations
can ping other workstations on the network without a problem. i have the
firewalls disabled on both pc's and the norton firewall is disabled on both
pc's. both have that latest updates installed. there's nothing in the printer
setup that can block a particular ip. the printers are from ricoh/savin,
toshiba and hp.

any ideas?

thanks in advance

If you have Norton Firewall, check in the anti-virus module. Internet
Worm module of Norton Anti-Virus blocks most "NetBIOS" name resoltion
as "default." To check this, locate and test the access to the
printers by IP address.

We need more information to help. How do you connect these two computers?
can you ping each other by IP?

this problem is happening at 2 different sites. these sites do not talk to
each other.

at each site 1 pc will not talk to the network attached printer at that
site; ie no ping response and i get an error message saying it can't
communicate to that ip address when adding the standard tcp/ip port. other
pc's on the network can ping this pc and the printers, and this pc can ping
other pc's on that network.

the firewalls have been disabled.

what else would you like to know that might help solve this problem?

If other computers can ping problematic computer but the computer can't ping
other, this could be a 3rd party software. For test, start the computer with
clean boot.
How to run Windows OS with a clean ...
With MSCONFIG, you also can configure a clean boot to disable common
