    - Wireless Connection problem Working on a Dell 4600, XP Sp2 . . . we are unable to get online with the Linksys WSB54G. ver. 2 network adapter . . . connection has been working well until recently. Now it will only go online if we hardwire it. The network adapter works on other computers. We have talked with the ISP provider, Linksys and AOL (which is the Broadband part), and they have shuffled us from one to the other, each saying it's the other's problem. We have reformatted the drive, and reinstalled the XP Sp2, and are still having the same problem. Any help would be much appreciated.     - Microsoft Network Monitor I have just downloaded and installed MS Network Monitor 3.1 and so far it seems ok. I read that you used to be able to do a capture on a remote machine using a remote agent. Is this still available in XP and vista? WHere do I get ther agent? It's not on the XP distro cd. Thanks.     - Adding a wireless router My present configuration is a Linksys Cable Modem and a Linksys Cable Router connected to 3 XP Pro computers. I would like to know if it's possible to add a Belkin Wireless G Router to my setup without replacing the Linksys Cable Router. I'd like to access my LAN wirelessly from a laptop computer I have.     - D-Link Modem Not Working With One Computer How is it possible that my D-Link modem is working with one of my Windows XP computers, but not with the other? The computers have about the same software, but different manufactures. So, my D-Link DSL-G624T wireless ADSL modem router is only working with my Fujitsu Siemens Amilo L7310GW laptop, but not with my HP Pavilion dv5037A laptop. The HP laptop still works with my old ZyXEL Prestige 660R-61 modem, so is my HP laptop blocking the MAC address of the D-Link modem router or something similar? I have tried these with my HP laptop: 1) Scanned for viruses and spyware with Avira AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic 8, Ad-Aware 2007, Spybot - Search & Destroy and Windows Defender. 2) Emptied the cache and deleted cookies for all my web browsers. 3) Went to address 192.168.1.1 (D-Link address) and got "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage". 4) Pinged 192.168.1.1 and got "Request timed out.". 5) ipconfig /registerdns 6) ipconfig /flushdns 7) ipconfig /release 8) ipconfig /renew 9) netsh winsock reset 10) restarted my computer 11) restarted D-Link 12) reseted D-Link 13) restarted my computer Tag: cannot share files with laptop Tag: 288094

    - Can't get DNS since installation of XP SP3 Hi there Since we have installed XP SP3 on several computers, it is not possible to get the DNS servers from our DHCP. The dns servers are just missing (checked with ipconfig /all). With XP SP1 and SP2 it works perfectly. If I type in the DNS servers manually, it works fine as well. Instead of Microsoft DHCP/DNS service we use a special software. If we connect the same xp sp3 computer to a network with MS dhcp/dns, it works fine. So something must have changed with the resolving of DNS server which seems to be not compatible with our dhcp/dns product. Does somebody now something about a similar effect?     - XP SP2 machine can't get dynamic address Hi. We're running Server 2003 with a DHCP server. The DHCP side seems to be working fine. We have various reserved address [all below .100] and 20 IPs [.181 to .200] reserved for those that don't have a reservation. When we took a PC [Win XP SP2] off static address and tried to renew, it could not pick up a reserved IP address [even though the right MAC was used]. Even after removing the reservation, it couldn't pick up one of the 20 un-reserved addresses. It's a "flat" network with 1 segment and 1 router. Other clients are fine.     - unable to browse web after a few minutes via HTTP, other protocols OK I boot up my XPSP2 machine and all is well - I can browse as normal. After a few minutes, I start getting connection timeouts (IE and Firefox). A reboot fixes the problem for a few minutes Here is the weird part - I can't browse via HTTP, but I can hit HTTPS sites without a problem. Ping works, IMAP/SMTP work, etc. I can resolve the sites, but can't see them via the browser. Can't visit a website via IP address either.     - lost internet settings for windows xp home edtn can anybody help please? Ive just spent 6 frustrating hours trying to recover my pc system. Having downloaded a security program from my isp supplier my pc crashed and although I have recovered the pc it appears that whatever hit me has scrambled my internet connection settings and I can no longer connect. My win.ini file and system.ini files were lost but through your pages have managed to recover them. No matter what I do I cant seem to get to a place where I can reinstate my internet settings. I know I am connected because i am writing this on my laptop which uses the same modem so i believe that side is ok.     - Offline Files Sync Issue WinXP Hello, I am curious if anyone has encountered this issue. Like many companys we have laptop users where we map their "My Documents" folder back to a server share. The "My Documents" folder is then made available offline files. I have a user that will create a file offline. Then log their computer onto the network. The laptop tells them that they have a "new" file to sync over. It attempts to sync the file over and them gives an error back that "access" is denied. Then once you logoff the computer the new file is then sync'ed to the server successfully. I have set the same user up on a different laptop and the issue does not happen so I am confident that it is nothing with the server.     - Mapped file share unavailable within seconds I can map a file share on an XP Home PC on my LAN. I can then see all the subfolders and files on the share. But within a minute or less, that share then becomes unavailable. Now if I try to map the same share, there is a delay followed by an error "the network path \\system\share could not be found After a few hours (and no other action need be taken), the above is repeatable - Ican map the share again, but only for about a minute before it becomes unavailable. I get the same behavior when attempting to map the share from two different PCs, both running XP Home also. Reboots of both the clients and the server machines make no difference.     - .rra files?? Hello I have set up my main computer to run on a wired connection from a Zyxel wireless router and everything is fine. I have also successfully connected to my wireless router using my laptop. The Zyxel wireless router also came with a USB plug in wireless adapter device which I thought I would use for the computer in the next room. This computer is quite old but is USB capable. I put the Zyxel installation CD to install the wireless adapter device in the CD tray and it loaded and the drivers and utility box were already checked. I clicked continue but it put up the following error: C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers/BRGSeed0.rra and the only way forward was to abort installation. I restarted, tried again and the same thing happened. I have never heard of .rra files. Could someone please try to explain what this error is and how do I solve it.     - No data in "Network Connections" Strange but true... I cannot open the "Network Setup Wizard". I go to Control Panel and double-click the "Network Setup Wizard" icon and get no response at all. When I open "Network Connections", I get a warning that "The Network Connections Folder was unable to retrieve the list of network adapters on your machine. Make sure that the Network Connections service is enabled and running". I have a working Internet connection - a wireless setup with a Linksys router. I set it up on this machine (a desktop with Windows XP Home SP2) 3 years ago and it has worked well ever since. At the time that I went wireless with the desktop, I remember going through and changing several settings in order to ease my mind concerning security issues... I turned off the file sharing, etc., as I only had the one computer. I recently purchased a laptop and was trying to set up file sharing between it and the desktop through the router and it seems that I need access to either the "Network Setup Wizard" or at least be able to see the current network connection in order to change the settings and allow the desktop to communicate with the laptop. I had some components replaced on the desktop motherboard a couple years ago and the tech didn't return my recovery disc. He has since closed up shop and I have no idea how to contact him.     - MS VPN won't connect. I have a user that has a laptop that can access the internet just fine. However I can't get an MS VPN to work from the laptop either wireless or ethernet. If I use another computer on the same network going through the same router the connections work just fine. So I know it is not the VPN Server. Also the windows firewall has been disabled on the laptop. Since the other computer is going through the same router I know that the router's firewall settings are not the issue. I got a log file and it appears to be a registry issue. However, I have never seen this error before so I was wondering if anyone else has and how they went about fixing it. The log file is below.     - Seeing different shared drives ? Does anyone have any suggestions on seeing different shared drives between 2 PC on the same network?     - One laptop won't connect We have four computers connecting via our Netgear router. Two are connected via cable and two laptops via wireless. Now one of the will connect to the home network (in that I can access the shared files on the other pcs etc) but won?t connect to the internet. I?ve checked and triple checked the settings and they seem fine. I gave up and set up a new wireless network and the other laptop connected without any problems at all but again this one just won?t.     - Can I connect a wireless router to an existing 8 port switch? I have to do work in a doctor's office. He has DSL going to an 8 port Netgear switch. All switches are being used. He needs to share a printer with 3 computers.     - A public Wi-Fi enigma A strange thing sometimes happens when I use the free Wi-Fi at the local public library :- Internet Explorer and Firefox will often stop connecting and display the respective <web-page not found> error messages. Outlook Express also says <the server could not be found>. The issue resolves itself within a few minutes. Other users have this problem too, so there is nothing wrong with my laptop. However, during all such interruptions, uTorrent would keep working merrily as if nothing has happened. What is its secret? Is it related to Windows XP, or the wireless network set-up at the library?     - Home Networking setup problems I have three computers, one with xp pro, another has win 2000 and the third is a MacMini wireless. I connect these computers via an Apple Base Station Extreame. Here is my problem. I can see all three computers from the Windows 2000 machine but I can not see any other machine from the xp pro system. I get a message : "Workgroup is not accessable. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator for this server to find out if you have access permission ... ." Well, I am the user and also the Administrator.     - Wireless on a MacBook running XP I have a couple of Macs that run Windows XP. Everything runs fine with them except I cannot connect to my secured wireless network. The network is secured with WPA2 and MAC authentication. When I attempt to connect tthe the network I get a message that says the network cannot be reached or is out of range. I'm occasionally getting messages in WinXP Pro that Windows is increasing the size of virtual memory... but my system has 2Gig of RAM, and every time I get this message I see that I have about 1.3Gig of RAM available (according to Sysinternals Process Explorer). I need to display standard dialogbox - "Select Users or Groups" to choose a user account (usually domain user account, but not always - local user accounts could be used too). So, user should choose a user account and click [OK] then my application saves name (or SID) of selected user account in remote database. Selected user account here is not related to any object in Windows (like file or anything also), it is just a user account to be enabled to login to a system (not Windows). In other words - want to make Windows users login to non-Windows system. Idea is - administrator selects a number of user accounts enabled to login to a system (non- Windows), these user accounts saved in database, then (when login) users submit own account name to a system, it makes select from db and see if this account enabled to login... Everithing is working ok, expect selecting user account, I want to display standard dialogbox but dunno how to do this... I dig out MSDN but unfortunately have not found any such API. :-( I'm trying to experimenting with EditSecurity function from AclUI.dll but seems it is quite complex and I'm not sure if it will really display the dialogbox I need?     - Workgroup Setup I want to do the following; 1 workstation containing 2 NIC's, I realize that I have to setup 1 card with an static IP address, have this computer access the internet via 1 card and the other card access the workgroup. All workgroup computers shall access the internet via the computer that has the 2 cards.     - Can not figure out...... Have been using a dial up for many year. XP with 3com megahertz Lan + 56K Ethernet interface. Everything has been running fine. Until I recently installed a new driver for my Atheros wifi adapter. Since then I can not get my 3Com to work. Check the device manager which says everthing is fine and working. When I try to use system network page show connecting.... but it just times out. Have another disk I can put in and it works. Any ideas would be appreciated.     - Setting program for internet access At one time I had set up which type of internet access I wanted windows to use if a program called for internet access. At the time I only had a dial up access through AOL. I now have a DSL access and want to change that preference to use dial up only as a last resort. I do not remember where that preference was located and my computer still trys to call up AOL if a program I am using requires internet access.     - One WIN XP compuer can't connect with RDC Hi, Hope some one can advise {RDC = Remote desktop connection.} I have 3 computers (winxp-pro SP2 all up to date) on my network. I have selected Allow RDC on all of them. I have checked that they all have the same services running/ settings ( although they also have different software installed on each unit as well). They are all connected to the same router. All have simple file sharing set up and all have passwords required to log in to each account. All accounts are administrator level accounts AND I have added the administrator accounts to the remote users group anyway ( although I believe that is not needed..) Now Unit A can "see" B & C ( Gets an active RDC connection and all goes as expected) and B can access C; C can access B as above BUT neither B or C can access A via RDC The error message is - "can not connect to the remote computer" ( tried both name and LAN ip address) Nothing in the event log of A There is no problem accessing shard folders b/w any of the computers including B access A for example. This problem seems exclusive to RDC. I have tried :- disabling anti virus AND firewall and windows defender and spybot etc etc etc on A - then I even uninstalled the Antivirus! No difference Started A in Safe mode with networking - got a "you were disconnected from the remote computer" error - before I even saw a connection had been achieved. Progress I guess but what? I guess I may have missed something obvious - but what?? PLEASE this is kinda driving me nuts :-) Short of reinstalling WIN xp - and the massive amount of software associated..... where too?     - LAN connection not being made on boot Running XP Pro SP1 on my desktop PC for 3 yrs or so, using a BT (UK) router as my gateway. Suddenly whenever I boot the PC it no longer sees the gateway and ping doesn't work - doesn't even see itself any more. I have found that the only workaround is to use the Network Setup Wizard to create a new connection, which shows up as a Bridged Connection. If I then delete that, the ordinary LAN connection works absolutely fine! (Until I shut down, in which case I have to go through the same procedure). Why isn't the normal LAN connection extablishing itself properly any more? BTW I have two laptops both of which are still talking to the router fine, so it doesn't seem to be an issue with the router (and anyway I have power-cycled that several times to no avail).     - File & Print Sharing via Wireless Access Point Hi, A little background. I have 1 PC (XP PRo SP2) connected via ethernet to a Netgear DG834GT adls/ router. I also have 2 laptops (1 XP Pro SP2 and 1 Vista HP) connected wirelessly. I also have a canon printer attached via USB to the PC. This set up works fine, internet, file and print sharing...everything. Because of inconsistent signal strength I introduced a BT Home Hub (HH) as a wireless access point (not connected to the telephone). I now connect the two laptops to the HH and the HH links wirelessly to the Netgear. I have got internet access for both laptops but can find no way of getting file and print sharing to working between the laptops and the PC. The netgear settings are: IP 192.168.0.1 Subnet 255.255.255.0 DHCP server on IP range 192.168.0.2 - 192.168.0.253 Channel 11 Uses WEP encryption WDS mode enabled for wireless repeater mode bridging The HH settings are IP 192.168.254 Subnet 255.255.255.0 DHCP server is off IP range 192.168.0.2 - 192.168.0.253 Channel 11 WDS mode enabled Firewall off On the Netgear I can see the HH and laptops are "attached devices" The two laptops can see each other, but can't see the PC The PC can't see either of the laptops No settings on the laptops have been changed All computers are part of the same MSHOME workgroup The printer is set to be shared There are folders on all computers that are shared Whatever I try just doesn't fix the problem. I keep thinking it's either the HH is not passing the network requests through (but as the firewall is off everything should be going through fine), or there is something within the Netgear that is causing the problem, but as the laptops worked fine when connected to it, I can't think what it would be. I'm totally confused. This is driving me absolutely nuts, so before I go insane could anyone of you very kind people offer any suggestions or advice please.     - DHCP Client Have Windows XP SP2 with all the avaliable updates (critical and optional) installed. My laptop connected to a Windows SBS 2003 network with DHCP server at work and gets the IP address of 192.168.0.56 I take it home and plug it into home network, which also uses DHCP, and I get a new IP address 192.168.0.102. However, when I bring it back (shutdown and start) to the office and connect it to the network, I logon to my laptop and it takes forever to load my personal settings (10 minutes) and I do not have a roaming profile setup. Not only that, I cannot access the network or internet. as it turns out, the IP address from my home network is not being released and I am not able get get an ip address from my server at work. Once I performed ipconfig /release then ipconfig /renew, then I am able to get the new IP and can access my network. I had this laptop setup as computer name ABC at one point. Then I formatted it and reinstalled everything and called it XYZ. Don't think this has anything to do with it. What is causing this problem and what is the solutions? Start by checking for a personal firewall - misconfigured or overlooked. What
antivirus protection do you have? What make and model router is it?
