System running XP sp3. Internet is DSL.

Everytime my friend connects to the internet it is fine for 10-15 mins and
then just stops saying that the connection has timed out. If you restart the
computer it does the same again. Both connections tried work fine on all
other computers.

I tried his computer at my house and still had the same problem. I have
tried uninstalling and reinstalling the network adaptor drivers, uninstalling
and re-installing Internet explorer and firefox, setting up a new connection,
i have also tried installing a different network card. I am now at a loss as
to what to check next. The last time this happened i was downloading an
updated driver for his netwrok adaptor and, although the internet would not
work, the download continued. Any ideas.

That could be the MTU issue. This how to may help.
How to determine the optimal MTU
In a case you may need to modify the MTU size and wonder how to
determine the optimal MTU for your system. You can use ping command to do
so, for example, ...
