I'm using Service Pack 2. My ethernet connection has the "Little or no
connectivity message". It doesn't matter whether it's plugged into another
computer with internet sharing, plugged into a router or directly to the
cable modem - I can't get an IP address and the connection won't repair.

I've done all of the following...

- Turned off any third party services.
- Scanned for viruses and adware.
- Ran Winsock XP Fix
- Replaced the old ethernet card with a new one.
- Reinstalled Windows XP with SP2 from the disc.
- Replaced the ethernet cable.
- Disabled Windows Firewall..

The last thing that I did before this started happening was install AOL 9.1
and Avast! Antivirus, but I can't be completely sure.

I uninstalled both and that didn't help.

When I log in as Administrator in Safe Mode with Networking, everything
works fine, so somewhere there must be a glimmer of hope.

This is a friends computer with lots of programs, so I don't have the option
of formatting the drive and starting over. HELP!

Make sure your "DHCP Client" service has status "Started" and Startup
Type is "Automatic".
