    - Web-folder connection causing system slowdown Hi, In My Network Places, I have a connection set up to a folder on a SharePoint Server site. After I boot up, I can click the folder in My Network Places from within Windows Explorer. It asks for my credentials, and then I'm in until the next reboot. The problem is that once I've authenticated, my entire system is slowed down. I'm not sure why that is so, but I thought that an easy fix would be to disconnect (rather than having to reboot or just live with the slowness). However, I can't find a way to disconnect. Right-clicking the folder does not produce any Disconnect option (which does exist on Windows Vista). Disconnect Network Drive doesn't work because I haven't mapped to any drives. Any ideas? Thanks!     - blending? dsl and cable connection to one computer Im curious if the following the can be done. Could i run a dsl and a cable connection to one computer in a way that only requires one network connection enabled yet utilizes both connections? I use my computer for day trading(stocks, options, etc) and need to reduce/eliminate any connection drop offs even for a few seconds. The trouble is the software i use for trading requires a connection license thats about $800 month and only allows one connection to be running at a time for one license. My thought was perhaps running the dsl modem and cable modem into a router and then connecting my computer to that would allow me to log into the trading software such that if say the cable connection would drop off the dsl would still keep the data flowing and vice versa.     - broadcasting (non-static) IP address Hi, I have recently purchased a web camera that is accessible through the internet (thru web server software that runs on a Windows XP PC). I have port forwarding set up on my router so that when I request comes in to the public IP address of my DSL connection on one of the ports used by the web server for the camera, it is redirected to the local IP address of my PC that is running the web server software. It works fine, but my only problem so far is that I do not have a static IP address. Everytime my DSL modem / router are restarted, I get a different public IP address. This would not be a problem because only a few people will be accessing this webcam and I don't mind if they have to use a different IP address each time. If I am home, I just go to http://www.whatismyip.com/, make note of my current public IP address and I send it to the person who wants to access the web cam. The only problem is when I am not home. I was wondering if there is a way I can have my PC automatically broadcast the public IP address so that even if I am not home, I can determine what IP address to use when trying to access the web camera.     - Subnet routing & VPN Hello, 1. Is it possible in some way to remove the routes to the subnet in which the network adapter resides? 2. Is it possible to somehow forward traffic to a subnet trough a VPN connection? I am struggling with the problem of setting up a working VPN in an environment where the local subnet is the same as the destination one. I have googled up some solutions but cannot give them a try due to problems in the above answers. Any amount of manual work before / after enstabilishing a connection will do fine, since I can script it anyway. If VPN will do no good in such a situation, what other technologies can I use to fix the problem if changing the subnet is not an option. Thanks for any help in advance!     - PC Freezes Several Minutes when connecting to Internet I had this problem under XP SP2 but now it seems worse (Lasts longer) under SP3. I am using a Pentium 4 with a 3.06 processor. My motherboard no longer has any BIOS updates. I understand that the code in Microsoft Update causes a problem with my processor and that a BIOS update may be necessary (Not available). What the system does is it FREEZES for several minutes after it makes it's connection to the Internet (I don't have this problem on my Laptop P3 also running XP SP3). I've confirmed it happens only when making a connection to the internet. If I turn off the Router connecting to the Internet I do not have the PC freezing up problem. As soon as I turn on the internet connection the PC will sit in a frozen state (Cannot input via Keyboard, applications, froze...only mouse moves) for several minutes. After several minutes it clears and returns to normal operational state and will work fine after that. I attempted to do a Microsoft Workaround for this problem that I found for SP2 but it does not work for SP3 and I really don't want to downgrade to do the work around. The workaround involves using MS Console on boot and renaming update.sys then running a hotfix KB885626, but when I run the hotfix it won't finish as it says my version of Windows doesn't require it (SP3). I really don't want to downgrade to SP2 to do this fix (Since I'm not sure it will work anyway) and I'm getting tired of waiting several minutes for the system to respond after making it's connection to the internet....Suggestions?     - Networking Laptop and desktop I have a Laptop running XP Professional and the same on the Desktop. The Desktop is connected to a USB hub as is the laptop. Previously there were communicating and I went away on 2 weeks business trip and now there is no communication. The hub is connected to an ADSL I have run the network wizard on both. When I look at network places on the desktop I can see it and the laptop OK. When I look at teh Laptop Network Places I can only see it and not the desktop. I cannot communicate either way.     - Run out of IP addresses The subject says it all. I have five Windows 2003 servers, each running various business apps including a Manufacturing Systems, Exchange Server 2003, a separate SQL Server 2005 box. I have roughly 200 hosts, with a variety of print servers, wireless access points etc. I have one ADSL connection, which is the default gateway on all machines. I am running Active Directory on all servers with the DHCP scope ranging 192.168.50.1 thru 192.168.50.254 with a subnet of 255.255.255.0 Print servers, wireless access points and the router all have reservations in the DHCP scope. The problem. I need more IP addresses. I am looking for a step by step guide to adding another subnet to the network so that all hosts on the new subnet can speak to the existing servers and share the ADSL connection.     - Network problem - need help Hello, I have two PCs with XP SP2 installed. Both of them has wireless connection to the same router that connects to a cable modem. The router has IP address 192.168.1.1 and the PCs get IP address from the router with DHCP, 192.168.1.101 and 192.168.1.111 respectively. Now, one PC (192.168.1.101) can reach (ping) the other one, but the other way is not working (192.168.1.111 cannot ping 192.168.1.101). I have checked the two machines, the setup are identical.     - Home Networking Problem Not sure if this is the right forum for this question since I am not experiencing any Web connection problems. I am, however, experiencing a problem with my Win XP Pro computer on the Workgroup that I have. I have 2 other computers running Vista Ult. and they can see each other fine. The XP machine even shows up on the Network but when I click on its icon I get an error message denying me access to the computer. On the XP machine I see the Workgroup but when I click on its icon I cannot see anything--permission denied error.     - Firewire cards. Hi. In my computer I've installed an Ethernet card, a dial-up modem and a firewire card. -The dial-up modem (56kbps) is used to connect to the internet. -The Ethernet port will be used for a cross-over cable network. -The firewire card I wish to use strictly for my external sound card. Looking at my "Network Connections", my firewire card shows up under "1394 Connection". Looking at it's properties, I see that "Client For Microsoft Networks", "File And Printer Sharing" and "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" are checked. In my "Device Manager" I find a "1394 Net Adapter". My questions are: A) How do I work it that the firewire card is used strictly for the external soundcard (Presonus Firebox)?     - Network Windows XP to Win98 Hi. I am looking to network 2 computers (one has WindowsXP installed and the other Windows 98) using a cross-over network cable. Both computers have an Ethernet port and a dial-up modem. Where I live, we only have dial-up internet, therefore each computer is set up to connect to the internet through their respective modems.     - Ping Not Seeing Networked Computers I have a home network connecting through a Linksys 4-Port Router. I connect my Desktop and my Laptop on the network to share Internet and files and printers. I have WinXP (no SP3) on the desktop and Vista (no SP1) on the laptop. I have my harddrive partitioned into 3 and share the "E" drive with the laptop. This has worked fine for a long time, but lately, I cannot access the desktop "E" drive from the laptop. To check to see if the two machines were seeing each other, I "ping" the laptop from the desktop and get timeouts. I "ping" the desktop from the laptop - and the ping doesn't do anything - just sits there with the ping command and takes no action after hitting enter. I'm not sure whatelse to provide you all to get some assistance on this problem, but if anyone has any advice, I would appreciate it. If you need more information, let me know and I will pass it on.     - Can't Ping My Laptop sI use my laptop on both a corporate microsoft network and on a home microsoft network. At either location, others can PING my laptop only when I am booted into the "SAFE Mode with Networking". I have tried using 'msconfig' to load all services exactly as they are enabled for the SAFE Mode but user are unable to PING me in that configuration, even from the local sub-net(no SYSTEM.INI, WIN.INI or STARTUP files are being processed or loaded). The Widows firewall shows to be disabled and no anti-virus, anti-spam etc. are being loaded.     - XP SP3: Network folder: Access denied Hi folks, yesterday i sntalled SP3 on my both XP Pro PCs - LAPTOP and BIGONE Installation was successful. Now I can not access Network folders on LAPTOP. The other way round is no problem: Access Network folders on BIGONE The share settings are the same: There is only only user XYZ allowed. User XYZ exists on both PCs with the same password. Update: with Share settings "all Users" instead of "user XYZ" i can access the folder. But is this not possible with just this special user? Any ideas?     - Can no longer Obtain IP Address Automatically In WindowsXP Hi folks. I have several PCs on a home network via a Linksys router. They are all configured to obtain the IP address automatically. Suddenly today, one of them says the network connection has "little or no connectivity" and it won't connect to the other systems or the internet. The other computers are working fine, so it's not the router. I checked the router and if I assign this PC a static IP address and DNS server, it connects fine.     - Small network, one pc inaccessible I have a small network of just a few pc's here. I have various folders and printers etc shared on each pc, when I go to view workgroups and places I can see all the computers. Usually I can double click a pc to access its resources but one of the computers always says it is not accessible or I might not have permissions, access denied. This has happened to me a few times in the past too and I've never been able to understand why or how to fix it. All the pcs are XP Pro and are in the same workgroup. I've tried connecting by IP or hostname with the same results. I've even gone extreme and turned off windows firewall on the one computer and it made no difference. FYI, the one computer that is inaccessible to everyone can view all the other computers just fine. On another note, while I can access other pc's some of them take a REALLY long time before anything happens. Sometimes the window seems to crash until it makes the connection. Any help appreciated.     - 802.1x SP3 Computer Auth Chicken & Egg So SP3 Resets the AutoMode back to 1 (User & Computer) I can understand that it was the default before. We only use Computer Auth for our 802.1x Installation (wired and wireless) So I canâ??t configure the XML Profile via netsh until after SP3 is installed, once I install SP3 I canâ??t connect to the network because as soon as I logon my 802.1x authentication fails :O) So word of warning for Computer Auth only users plan your installation carefully because you may have to install a lan profile to set the AuthMode back to computer only and make sure the Wired Autoconfiguration Service is set to Automatic before rebooting after installing SP3. The instructions at this link work for both XP and Vista:" I have done that on all of the laptops and main PC and called them all the same "Guest" I haven't given them a password as it didn't ask for one but unless you tell me that this is essential I at least have an open user account of the same name on all of the PCs. However when I try to access the networking from some of the laptops and from my Desk top to certain laptops I get the message "\\charlie (laptop name)\is not accesssible. You might not have permission to use this network resourse. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions." What does this mean please Malke and what do I do now? Does the fact that I wasn't asked to add a password mean that I haven't set up a usuable account? Any advice /help would be very welcome.     - Wireless Connection problem Working on a Dell 4600, XP Sp2 . . . we are unable to get online with the Linksys WSB54G. ver. 2 network adapter . . . connection has been working well until recently. Now it will only go online if we hardwire it. The network adapter works on other computers. We have talked with the ISP provider, Linksys and AOL (which is the Broadband part), and they have shuffled us from one to the other, each saying it's the other's problem. We have reformatted the drive, and reinstalled the XP Sp2, and are still having the same problem. Any help would be much appreciated.     - Adding a wireless router My present configuration is a Linksys Cable Modem and a Linksys Cable Router connected to 3 XP Pro computers. I would like to know if it's possible to add a Belkin Wireless G Router to my setup without replacing the Linksys Cable Router. I'd like to access my LAN wirelessly from a laptop computer I have.     - D-Link Modem Not Working With One Computer How is it possible that my D-Link modem is working with one of my Windows XP computers, but not with the other? The computers have about the same software, but different manufactures. So, my D-Link DSL-G624T wireless ADSL modem router is only working with my Fujitsu Siemens Amilo L7310GW laptop, but not with my HP Pavilion dv5037A laptop. The HP laptop still works with my old ZyXEL Prestige 660R-61 modem, so is my HP laptop blocking the MAC address of the D-Link modem router or something similar?     - Can't get DNS since installation of XP SP3 Hi there Since we have installed XP SP3 on several computers, it is not possible to get the DNS servers from our DHCP. The dns servers are just missing (checked with ipconfig /all). With XP SP1 and SP2 it works perfectly. If I type in the DNS servers manually, it works fine as well. Instead of Microsoft DHCP/DNS service we use a special software. If we connect the same xp sp3 computer to a network with MS dhcp/dns, it works fine. So something must have changed with the resolving of DNS server which seems to be not compatible with our dhcp/dns product. Does somebody now something about a similar effect?     - XP SP2 machine can't get dynamic address Hi. We're running Server 2003 with a DHCP server. The DHCP side seems to be working fine. We have various reserved address [all below .100] and 20 IPs [.181 to .200] reserved for those that don't have a reservation. When we took a PC [Win XP SP2] off static address and tried to renew, it could not pick up a reserved IP address [even though the right MAC was used]. Even after removing the reservation, it couldn't pick up one of the 20 un-reserved addresses. It's a "flat" network with 1 segment and 1 router. Other clients are fine.     - unable to browse web after a few minutes via HTTP, other protocols OK I boot up my XPSP2 machine and all is well - I can browse as normal. After a few minutes, I start getting connection timeouts (IE and Firefox). A reboot fixes the problem for a few minutes Here is the weird part - I can't browse via HTTP, but I can hit HTTPS sites without a problem. Ping works, IMAP/SMTP work, etc. I can resolve the sites, but can't see them via the browser. Can't visit a website via IP address either.     - lost internet settings for windows xp home edtn can anybody help please? Ive just spent 6 frustrating hours trying to recover my pc system. Having downloaded a security program from my isp supplier my pc crashed and although I have recovered the pc it appears that whatever hit me has scrambled my internet connection settings and I can no longer connect. My win.ini file and system.ini files were lost but through your pages have managed to recover them. No matter what I do I cant seem to get to a place where I can reinstate my internet settings.     - Offline Files Sync Issue WinXP Hello, I am curious if anyone has encountered this issue. Like many companys we have laptop users where we map their "My Documents" folder back to a server share. The "My Documents" folder is then made available offline files. I have a user that will create a file offline. Then log their computer onto the network. The laptop tells them that they have a "new" file to sync over. It attempts to sync the file over and them gives an error back that "access" is denied. Then once you logoff the computer the new file is then sync'ed to the server successfully. I have set the same user up on a different laptop and the issue does not happen so I am confident that it is nothing with the server.     - Mapped file share unavailable within seconds I can map a file share on an XP Home PC on my LAN. I can then see all the subfolders and files on the share. But within a minute or less, that share then becomes unavailable. Now if I try to map the same share, there is a delay followed by an error "the network path \\system\share could not be found After a few hours (and no other action need be taken), the above is repeatable - Ican map the share again, but only for about a minute before it becomes unavailable. I get the same behavior when attempting to map the share from two different PCs, both running XP Home also. Reboots of both the clients and the server machines make no difference.     - .rra files?? Hello I have set up my main computer to run on a wired connection from a Zyxel wireless router and everything is fine. I have also successfully connected to my wireless router using my laptop. The Zyxel wireless router also came with a USB plug in wireless adapter device which I thought I would use for the computer in the next room. This computer is quite old but is USB capable. I put the Zyxel installation CD to install the wireless adapter device in the CD tray and it loaded and the drivers and utility box were already checked. I clicked continue but it put up the following error: C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers/BRGSeed0.rra and the only way forward was to abort installation. I restarted, tried again and the same thing happened. I have never heard of .rra files. Could someone please try to explain what this error is and how do I solve it.     - No data in "Network Connections" Strange but true... I cannot open the "Network Setup Wizard". I go to Control Panel and double-click the "Network Setup Wizard" icon and get no response at all. When I open "Network Connections", I get a warning that "The Network Connections Folder was unable to retrieve the list of network adapters on your machine. Make sure that the Network Connections service is enabled and running". I have a working Internet connection - a wireless setup with a Linksys router. I set it up on this machine (a desktop with Windows XP Home SP2) 3 years ago and it has worked well ever since. At the time that I went wireless with the desktop, I remember going through and changing several settings in order to ease my mind concerning security issues... I turned off the file sharing, etc., as I only had the one computer. I recently purchased a laptop and was trying to set up file sharing between it and the desktop through the router and it seems that I need access to either the "Network Setup Wizard" or at least be able to see the current network connection in order to change the settings and allow the desktop to communicate with the laptop. I had some components replaced on the desktop motherboard a couple years ago and the tech didn't return my recovery disc. He has since closed up shop and I have no idea how to contact him.     - MS VPN won't connect. I have a user that has a laptop that can access the internet just fine. However I can't get an MS VPN to work from the laptop either wireless or ethernet. If I use another computer on the same network going through the same router the connections work just fine. So I know it is not the VPN Server. Also the windows firewall has been disabled on the laptop. Since the other computer is going through the same router I know that the router's firewall settings are not the issue. I got a log file and it appears to be a registry issue. However, I have never seen this error before so I was wondering if anyone else has and how they went about fixing it. The log file is below. Hi guys,

I have a stange problelm. The PC is a notebook with Windows XP SP2 that is
joined to a Win 2003 Domain. When trying to log in to the domain profile with
the network cable un plugged, it just shows the wallpaper and nothing else.
There is no activity on the hard drive as well.

If I need to get the domain profile, I have to login first to a local
profile, log off and log in back with the domain user name and password.

I am not sure what is happenning. We also tried a fresh install of Windows,
It was OK initially but the problem started again after some time.

Any help is very much appreciated !

I'd start by checking the event logs for errors.
