I have a kodak easyshare digital camera that also does videos. can you use mm2 to put the videos together into one video? mm2 wont import my movies,but it will import my digital pictures. Canon ZR50
After reinstalling Windows XP, Moviemaker will not
capture video from my canon ZR50 Digital Video camera.
The camera is connected using an IEEE1394 port (TI
controller.) After connecting the camera PC recognizes
it, shows the correct camera on the list of video devices
(Canon ZR50 and WinTV capture card), after pressing
next,I am given the choice of File mane and place to save
video, after selecting these, I select video setting
(Best quality for playback on pc), next. Then I've tried
both options - Capture tape automatically OR Capture tape
manually. After pressing next, tape rewinds and starts,
process moves to second step, capturing video, then stops
with the following VERY HELPFUL message, "An unknown
error has occurred."
Is this a codec problem? I have tried all of the options
in the initial capture screens without success.
PC is a HP Pavilon, 3.0 GHz processor, 512 meg ram, 120
gig HD, 86 gig free, built in Firewire.
Running Windows XP Home edition, version 2002, SP1 and
Movie Maker version 5.1 Build 2600 xpsp 1.020828-1920,
SP1.
Help.

Saving Movie Files to something other then WMV
Is there a way I can save my movie I made with WMM2 and save it to say, .mpg, or .avi? I can't do DV-AVI because those files are too large. I ask because I have a website where my friends and I put up our movies, and some of them have macs, and can't see them on their computer because it won't play windows media. VHS Tapes to COmputer using Windows Movie Maker 2
Hello,
I used the Video in and out capability of my video card to do a capture
this morning from VHS, only problems are, I get a white bar across some
frames, and also it seems to have dropped off the last few minutes of the
video(which was the end) otherwise it appears to look good, just like my
other two that I done.
Is there something I need to adjust always get full vhs captures, without
the white bar across them.

Image is tiny in WMM
When I upload images from my camcorder to WMM, the image is tiny in the middle of the screen. If I expand it, then its all pixelated and crappy. I know it will display better than that because i've played the recordings back directly through my TV and it looked fine on my 18" - 20" ish TV screen
I just want to be sure that when I eventually put these images on DVD, they will fill the entire TV screen like a conventional TV broadcast

I have a three minute flight video that I would like to
place on a standard CD. So far each time I try to
transfer the files to the CD, I get the notice that the
CD can't hold the files. Is there a way in Movie Maker

Help for JVC Owners
I had a problem with my JVC Digital Camcorder. MM2 would
not capture the movie and would not recognize the movie
if I captured it with the provided software. I was using
the USB.
This is an audio problem. I don't know of a software
fix, but here is the workaround. Connect your camera
using USB, then the headphone jack to the mic jack in the
computer. Select microphone for your audio and MM2 will
do just fine.

Dedicated hard drive for my video files
I am starting to enjoy using my miniDv camcorder and realize I am running
tight on disk space.
I have a laptop with 40 Gig HD.
I also have a Firewire PC Card with 2 ports - one to connect my camcorder.
As I am about to buy a second HD, an extermal model, for my camcorder
files - would it be a good idea to get a Firewire HD to connect to the 2nd
port on my card ?
Or should I get a USB 2.0 HD so that it uses a different IRQ to get better
performance ?

I too see MM2 close when trying to add transitions
I captured some home movies last evening, using Win MM2 to do so. When I set up my timeline, all of the clips appear and drag just fine. As soon as a drag a transition down in between the clips, the program closes immediately. Now, I changed my hardware acceleration to 3 as PapaJohn suggested to another poster, but I'm not understanding codec part. Like I said, I used MM2 to capture the video from a VCR, using a Dazzle DVC80. I didn't chose any specific codec that I'm aware of. Any thoughts? Thanks. Darker when saved
Hi. When i have finished my movie and saved it to my computer (even in
the best quality), the finished movie gets darker than what i get in
the preview in moviemaker. I know i can add brightness several times
as an effect, but can anyone tell me why it gets darker in the firs

newb needs help with slide show
I'm trying to create a simple slideshow from scanned
photos using MM2. I've scanned the photos (all are
either 5x7s or 7x5) at 300 dpi, saved as jpg. Most have
a resolution of 1812x1196.
I've experimented by saving the movie in several
different formats such as DV-AVI, "Best quaity for
playback on my computer...", etc. Yet regardless of the
movie format, the images still come out significantly
blurry. To illustrate, in IrfanView Full screen mode, I
can clearly make out the smallest text on a street sign.
But in WMP9 full screen, I can't even make out the larger
letters on that same sign in the movie.
I know others have asked this question before but I've
yet to see an answer posted here*. How can I get the
same clarity of the original jpg in a full screen movie?
Do I need to crop my image to a certain H/W ratio? I've
tried resampling to varios resolutions with Irfanview but
that only made the pictures more blurry.
The video will be projected via an InFocus projector from
a Powerbook (Mac). Can someone help me get the best
possible quality of these images from MM2?
* I've seen several references to PapaJohn's pages, but
the links all appear to be dead at this time. I'll check
back tomorrow and hopefully they'll be back up.

MM2 is slow after dropping transition
When I drag and drop a transition onto the storyboard, I
need to wait about 30 seconds to do next thing. My project
includes 200 still pictures. It takes 37 minutes to play.
My system includes Celeron 2.6 Ghz CPU, 768 MB RAM and
80GB hard drive. The task manager shows 100% CPU and about
400MB RAM usage. Nothing is running in background. When
the number of pictures is small, I don't have this
problem. What does the MM2 is doing after I drop a
transition? It is very time consuming to make a picture

Exporting from Moviemaker Problems
I have been having problems exporting a 54 minute, 11Gb project out of Moviemaker, first to DV tape, and cannot get a smoothly running movie. The sound is perfect in my computer, but skips in places on the tape, not always in the same places on different copies. I've tried emptying everything unnecessary out of memory, de-fragging, etc, but nothing helps.
Then, I've tried to save the project to my hard drive, or burn it to CD. No luck. After 6 or 8 hours I get non-specific messages saying that either the memory is full, or the file is missing something, or something else is wrong. Nothing specific. I have a Sony computer with Click to DVD on it, but that won't accept the Moviemaker format.
All the professionals who I've asked laugh when I say I have Windows Moviemaker, and can offer no help.

Currently, the shortest picture duration that can be set
is 0.125 seconds (8 frames per second). Is there any way
to make this shorter? I would really like to get it to at

DV device not recognized
Sony GV-D1000 deck connected to movie maker 2. When I do
this, I can't capture via the "vcr conrols" in movie
maker2 (they don't appear). I have to manually hit the
play on the sony deck and select capture from within
movie maker 2. Is there a driver I need to control the

Although I previously have opened JPG files from a kodak DC3400 and made a slideshow, now when I import still digital images and drag them into the storyboard or timeline, they do not show up in the preview pane. They do show up when I click on them in the collection window
When I try to make a movie with the images, a wmv file is created but it has no images--just black like the preview pane
I am running WinXP Home on a eMachine M6807 w/a 64-bit AMD processor and 512 MB of RAM

then renamed the clips, organized them the way i wanted
and saved it as a project. the only thing that i didn't
do is save it as a movie as i wanted to go back and add
clips at a later time. today, i opened the project and
noticed that the clips were no visable in the storyline
and that the clips reverted back to their original name
(didn't save the clips the way i renamed them). is there
any reason for this and how do i prevent it from happenin
again?

The name of the photo appears in the preview monitor window but not the photo.

still cant get no sound
i have capture a video from my camcorder using movie maker 2 while capturing it there is sound but when i come to play it back there is no sound,i am not running any thrid party filters i have also try another software and that does the same can anyone help me to solve this problem i would really like to send my video to my mother-inlaw Tag: can you use mm2 with a digital camera that also does movie clips Tag: 15685

No audio device, no movie maker...
Hello,
our system doesn't have an audio device but I want to be able to capture
just a video without sound. When I start movie maker, it reports that it
could not find an audio device and after confirming the dialog, movie maker
shuts down.
How can I get rid of this?

Help a newb with cropping
I want to make it so that the video only shows or plays a
certain section of the screen. I think it is called
cropping. For example, I taped a baseball game and didn't
want anyone to see the pitcher or outfield...can I
reajust it so only homeplate and the batter are shown? In
MS word you can do it with images. This isn't resizing it
it is kind of like moving the edges in so it doesn't show

Can I change to output to 12 bit audio instead of 16bit
I'd like to do some special effects as past of a tape and insert the music
later, but 16 bit audio doesn't allow audio dubbing. Is there a way to
produce 12 bit audio clips?

capture analogue video using NVIDIA graphics card
I am trying to capture vdieo from an analogue camera. My PC is fitted with an NVIDIA GEFORCE3 graphics card
According to the documentation for my PC I have a conmposite analogue input which can be used to capture video from a camera
I know the camera and leads work, I can capture video from it on a friends PC
When I use movie maker I get an error message stating no capture device connected
How do I work out the problem, seems to me it could be any of the following

VCDs with Roxio DVDBuilder
I have just installed Easy Media Creator 7.0. I usually go with Nero,
but it's a little fussy with some MPEG formats, so I'm trying EMC.
Ideally I'd just like to make a VCD where a number of MPG files become
VCD chapters. In DVD Builder, though this does not appear to be
possible. It seems that I am forced to use the initial menu where, in
order to see my MPG segments I have to click the corresponding number
(1, 2, 3, ...) on the remote, while in Nero I could much more simply
drag and drop all files and they would play sequentially automatically
(i.e., no menu). Here the Play button does not do anything, and after
playing one it goes back to the main menu, where I have to select a
new file/number.
In order to add MPG files to the CD, I have to do "Add new title", if
I add one file per "Title" I have random access to all through the
main menu, but I find that quite inconvenient, I'd just like to see
them all in a row, and skip to what I want with chapters. Also, if I
add more than one MPG file in the same "Title" they are just combined
together as one big file, but again not separated by chapters.
The "mark chapter" dialog is also quite useless. If I combine many
files under one title, and push the playback scrollbar all the way to
the end, I don't even see the whole thing (not that it would be a
convenient way anyway).
So my question is, how can I just get rid of the useless initial Menu
and just create a standard VCD where different MPG files correspond to
different chapters ?

Problems and Questions with MM2
I am using MM 2.0.3312.0 and I am having troubles.
1. The Storyboard index seams messed up. For example, I click on one
storyboard item, that item shows properly in the previewer. I click on the
next item, the header and timing information changes, but the video does not
show the correct one. Then every item I select after that is off (the video
shown is one behind). Is that due to the transitions?
2. Is there any way to control the size of the saved movie? I have a
video clip that is 480x360. I want the movie saved to the same size? Is
that possible? It appears to save 640x480 or 320x240. Is the resulting
movie based on the codec selected?
3. Anyone know the best way to work with a movie? I.E. I have an AVI
video. I have the Audio track which is separate. I want to merge the two
then add a music track. My concerns are:
a. When I save the AVI (without the audio) using another tool which
lossless codec should I use so when I combine the AVI with the Audio track
the Video quality is not compromised.
b. Then I have to import that Video into MM2 so I can add a music track
and save it.
As you can see, I am dealing with saving the original video (w/o audio),
saving the Video with its Audio, then saving the entire thing with a music
track. Which codec is recommended so I do not progressively loose video
quality?
Unless I am missing something in MM2 and I can work with a video (w/o an
audio track), add the audio track to the storyboard, then add a music track
to the storyboard?

Digirtalized Audio
Hi, I'm working in a project in Movie Maker 2 and I'm having a problem with
the audio quality of the final movie.
I have a digital camcorder (Canon Elura 50) and I'm tranfering video to my
PC (P4/2.4Ghz - 512 RAM - 2x80GB) using firewire. I'm using MM2 to capture
the videos in DV-AVI files and the quality is perfect.
But in the next step, when I use the clips in the storyboard something
happens, because when I play the clips in the storyboard the audio sounds a
little digitalized. And when I choose to output my final edited movie (also
DV-AVI file) the audio is not very good.

I have a kodak easy share digital camera. mm2 will import the photo's o.k., but will not import the videos. I want to put the video clips together to make one movie. any help would be great!!
