    - Free Web Hosting Services... My newsletter this week will be about the 'free' web hosting services for videos... I've signed up for 5 of them and tested with both movies from Movie Maker, and stories from Photo Story 3... I'm impressed with how well they work... each handle the WMV files, including the stories. For example, here's a link to my sample story on the Google service.     - NTSC / PAL format issue I have a PAL Sony mini DV camera, PAL format. Storing tapes in PAL format with movie maker is not a problem. However I would like to store videos taken with a NTSC standard with help of my camera and the movie maker. I can view the tapes on my camera but cannot see them correct in the movie maker wether I select (under tools - options-advanced) NTSC or PAL....is there a fix?     - Reinstall Movie Maker? I have just started movie maker for the first time. (Didn't know it existed until a friend told me about it recently!) When it started there was a message saying a file was missing (Which of course I did not make note of!) It asked if I wished to continue, and I said yes. I wanted to test how it worked so I just imported a small MPG clip, about 5mg, I dragged the parts to the timeline and proceeded through the save to disc sequence. At which point the screen said Movie Maker was unable to save the file, and to check if the source file was still available and if there was enough disc space. Yes to both. But I am still unable to save a file. When I attempted the same with a different clip, Movie Maker crashed, and sent a report to MS. (No response from MS!) Tried once more with yet another clip. THis time my computer froze, and I had to do the CTL/ALT/DEL thing. Is there some way to determine which file was missing when I first started Movie Maker?     - Photo story 3 preview stopped working Hi I have used Photo story 3 with success until the last time. The preview feature stopped working with the message" that some of the program files are corrupted, and to reinstall Photo story 3 and try again." This I did and then tried a Photo Story which had worked previously but I got the same message.I have Windows xp ,Pentium 4, 512 mb. 71 GB harddrive with 23 free GB.The storys that I am testing are only three photos long. I have tried the trouble shooting but am a bit afraid to change setting unless I am sure that it is the right thing to do. Has anyone else had this problem ?     - Importing burned DVD back into WMM to save? Ok, first, I'm pretty low-tech but I can usually figure things out. I made a Video in WMM and burned the video to DVD+R. The video was taking up 10 Gb, so I deleted the project from my hard drive, leaving the burned DVD as my only copy. I didn't even think to save it in a compressed format. Now that's what I want to do, so I can host parts of it on the internet. I've tried, but I can't get WMM to import the finished product / DVD. It's a .ts file or something. (?) I don't have it hear at work. What do I need to do to load the video from the DVD+R back to WMM so I can save the project and upload to the internet?     - Movie maker freezing Ok i've been using WMM for a while now but suddenly while i'm editing a video and try to play it back it, it wont play. The picture stays frozen at the opening scene while the progress slider moves. I've restarted my computer a few times and it keeps happening.     - Problem transferring video files to Nero for burning After downloading and installing the latest updates for Nero 6, I'm not able to transfer video files that I've saved on my computer. Everything worked before, but not now. The files still transfer to Sonic MyDVD, but I'd rather use Nero because I like the menus better. Anyone have any thoughts on this?     - connecting camcorder to pc (slightly ot) Hi A guy at work has recently bought a digital camcorder and was asking me about firewire connections (I know the general consensus is that its the best way to connect). His camera connects via the USB lead to a socket on the camera which is what seems to be the standard USB connection. We have 3 digital cameras and 3 MP3 players (different brands) and all use this same small plug to connect to the USB.     - WMM Video/Audio Capture Problem I'm using an HP m7330n Pc with Windows xp Media Center and AMD64 4200.     - Video file codes I have been attempting to create a cd with photos, music and video footage mixed in. The file extention assigned to all my video files, I assume when I transferred my memory card contents to my computer, is .mov. This is an unaccepted file for WMM.     - Why is "Combine" not possible in MovieMaker ? Ok, I loaded a wmv movie into MovieMaker and put the marker (=blue vertical line in the timeline) somewhere in the mid of the movie. Then I did a first "split" and just a second one afterwards on another position with success. Now I have 3 independent parts. I marked the middle part and deleted successfully. Finally I wanted to paste the remaining two parts. For that I hold down the CTRL key and selected with mouse clicks at first the left then the right part. When I go now to the "clip" menu in order to make a "Combine" operation it is NOT possible. The menu entry "Combine" is greyed out/disabled. Why ?     - lag and skipping during use so im making a movie about 9 minutes using Fraps, and i have LOTS of edits and Effects, but sometimes in the movie, it just starts lagging and skips to the end, and other times in random places the screen freezes but the sound keeps going. its insanly disturbing, because then i have to press Stop but its laggy so it takes a while then watch it over again. then the next day the clip works and then another day it doesnt. how come its so laggy and the clips mess up randomly?     - Capture Devices Compatible with Moviemaker Can someone suggest a hardware-intensive USB device (such as Plextor ConvertX) that is compatible with MM? I am moving to this solution as the software-intensive devices (such as Dazzle DVC-90) don't work well with the limited resources of my laptop.     - codecs Windows Media Player and Movie Maker can be set up to download codecs automatically, how intuitive is this though...? I have an AVI file created with my digital snapshot camera - it plays ok in Media Player, then still ok played from 'Collections' in Movie Maker, but only as a blank screen with sound only when played from the 'Timeline'. I downloaded AceMegaCodecs while I was trying to get better support for mp4 files, also DEP has dug it's heels in trying to close Explorer, Movie Maker and Media Player when I attempt anything with the AVI. It wouldn't be so bad I could get the sound from the file, but I simultaneously recorded a wav file for dubbing through a shure PG58 mic, so my AVIs are effectively now turning out useless.     - Movies are a bit blurry after burning Hi, I have captured video on moviemaker and murned it on Sonic My DVD LE. The video looks really good when looking at it in Moviemaker, but when making a DVD the end result is a bit disappointing.     - Photos I was trying to make a video of digital still photos with transitions and music. After spending about 4 hours getting everything just the way I wanted, when I went to save it to a DVD, I got a message stating that it could not be saved for possible reasons, The original source file could not be found, not enough room on the disk, or not enough room on my hard drive.     - Plextor ConvertX PX-M402U: Any Good? I am attempting to capture 8mm analog video to my PC which is a Dell Inspiron 2650 with a Pentium 4 @ 1.69GH, 256MB RAM and a 20GB drive. You will say this is why I have had terrible luck with software-based capture devices such as the Dazzle DVC-90 and others. I obviously need a hardware-based device. Has anyone had any experience with the Plextor ConvertX? I am considering trying one, also because it is on Nero's list of tested devices and I use Nero 6. Reviews also seem to be consistently excellent. Thanks very much for your help. I have just about given up on Dazzle(yeah, right), Videoh(s--t) and others. Frank P.S.     - Nero Suddenly Won't Accept .AVI Files I have a Fuji V10 Digital Camera and have been using it to create .AVI clips. NeroVision 3 accepted these clips and I burned a successful DVD. Recently I added more clips to the same xD card, and then copied these to a folder containing the original .AVI clips. I then selected the new .AVI clips to form a new Nero DVD project. I was shocked to find that Nero would not accept them. In fact, every time I try to add them, it thinks the first is an .AVI file, but it thinks all the others are sound files! I have recopied the clips to my hard drive to no avail. Also, when this happens, Nero stops responding. The xD card was used to the point of "card full." The only thing I can think of is that somehow the files got corrupted. However, they play back perfectly on the camera, and the files on the HD play perfectly on Win Media Player and other media players. Does anyone know what may have happened? Thanks in advance.     - Confirming Collections Plan Since editing is art, I'm never quite done with a movie, but I don't trust my machine to be ready to start editing the movie I last worked on 6 months ago (i.e. maybe the machine gets reformatted, or whatever). So I want to confirm that an improvised collections export process, for which a formal versino seems to have been left out of this version, will work. When I burn the video DVD, I put a data folder with the raw footage, stills, and audio on the DVD as well. Even with that, if I wanted it bad enough, I could re-create the movie, but I didn't want to loose all of the work I've done with the collections. So if I also save the MEDIATAB?.DAT file on the DVD, woud I be able to 'reconstitute' the project, complete with collections, on my reformatted machine? I realize that the "old" collections that I would copy into the C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Movie Maker\ folder would wipe out my current one if I didn't back it up outside of this location first. But accepting that I would be in a "collections database swap mode", would this work? Is there anything in the DAT file that WMM2 would see as "foreign" and "reject the transplant"? BTW, I've read and think I understand most of what I found here: http://www.papajohn.org/MM2-Managing-Collections.html, but that application is slightly different, and I'm not serious enough about this to install MM1 just for managing collections.     - Splitting Audio and Video I need to split the audio and video so I can delete the audio portion and add my own narration. I know that I can mute the audio, but this actually ends up in a larger file because the audio is still coded for, it's just muted. Looks and sounds great after I saved it as a DV-AVI format when played in RealPlayer. I use Sony's Click to DVD software program and when I do a preview of the burn there is no audio.     - Continued freesing of program I used the wmm lots of times without problem but now it's encountered a big one that makes it impossible to work with the program. There seems to be a file (one that's no longer on my computer) stuck in the program. It's in the program every time I open it with a big red X trough it.     - Unspecified error plaquing everyone? Hey there. I'm having this same "Unspecified error" in WMM that TONS of others seem to have but no one seems to be able to fix. WMM version 1 worked fine for a long time for me using all kinds of file types( including jpg which a ton of you for some reason think don't work)...Anyway one day it just decided to stop working by giving me the unspecified error whenever importing things or adding things to the storyboard.     - Problem imorting I have a uncompressed avi which is a tutorial of an application running on pocket pc. When viewed in mediaplayer the pocket pc is normal size with approx 1/3 image and 2 X 1/3 black areas side by side. When I import into movie maker the video looks okay on the time line but is squashed in the preview screen. ie 2 black areas top and bottom. The outputted file is the same. How can I overcome this.     - Narration 'cut' short Hello All, Recently I have been having a problem with the narrations on my MM being cut short. As an example, I can record the narration and see the recording time of 29 seconds. However when I stop the recording and it adds the audio to the timeline it may only be 12 seconds (time is different). I can not figure out what is causing the issue. Any suggestions are welcome. I have tried recording different lengths (10 second intervals) and it will cut each one down, but not a consistent amount. I really do not want to do an uninstall/reinstall, but not sure what else to try. I have just under 8GB free on the hard drive so that should not be an issue. It worked fine the last 4-5 months and just starting acting up in the last week. I have not installed/uninstalled anything else for quite some time. Again, any help is appreciated! can watch it with windows media player, I gave a copy to a friend, he has
windows XP on his PC and of course windows media player but when he tries to
watch the movie all he gets is the sound. Any idea what the problem is?

Did you encode it with Divx or Xvid codec? If he doesn't have the codec, he
won't see it.

I would be very surprised if my friend had done that on his PC, that's

I have a similar problem watching commercial DVD's on my computer. Only, I
get picture but no sound when trying to watch them with Windows Media
Player. Someone said it's a codec I don't have, but I don't know what that
means, or even what to do with it if I got it! Any help?
