I connected my computer to a VCR using a SVideo cable. When I try to capture
video, I can watch the video in the preview screen. It's a little dark, but
I can watch it. When I finish recording the clip and go to the main screen,
either there's no video, or the video doesn't play properly. For instance,
once it just showed a large green block. Another time, it just showed the
same moment over and over. The audio plays just fine. I am using movie
maker version 2.1. I'm not sure which video capture device I have. I'm
totally new at this, so hopefully I'm just missing something obvious. Thanks.

If you could find out which capture device you do have that will help
enormously, as MM does not natively capture from analogue sources.

I the System folder in my Control Panel, under 'Sound, video and game
controllers' there's an item called 'Legacy Video Capture Devices'. Under
the properties tab there's an item called 'WDM for Windows Capture Driver
(Win32)'. That's the best that I could find.

I'm assuming you are perhaps using the tv in from your graphics card? If so,
did this come with a programme for capturing video? If not, MM does not
natively work well with analogue capture, as you are finding out. If you
wish to do lots of this your best bet would be to invest in a proper
analogue capture device, like the canopus/miglia ones or use pass through on
a digital camcorder if you have one which supports that.
