I don't think it was there.... you hear it on the playback device like the
camcorder, not the computer.

There is the option under 'capture parts of the tape manually' to mute
speakers, and I get a time-lagged stereo effect (camcorder/speakers) with
capture if I don't tick this option/ shut of speakers.

Hi Newman --

For Capture from a DV camera, the only audio you'll here during capture is
from the physical device. (Movie Maker does not send the audio to the sound
card for capture from DV camera scenarios.)

If you are trying to hear audio from an Analog capture device (like an ATI
capture card) you might be able to hear it during capture if you do the
following:

1. Ensure that the Audio "line-out" on the capture card is plugged into the
Line-in on your sound card.
2. Launch MM and proceed to the last page of the "Video Capture Wizard."
3. Launch the system Volume mixer (Choose "Start" | "Control Panel" | "Sound
and Audio Device" | "Audio" Tab | "Volume" button under the "Sound record"
area on this page. --> This will launch the Volume Control application for
your system.)
4. In the Volume Control application, choose "Options" / "Properties" and
make sure:
a. Your Audio card is set as the "mixer device"
b. The "Adjust volume for " is set to "Playback"
c. The "Line-in" volume control is "checked"
....Once all these are set, choose OK
5. The "line-in" control should now be displayed in the Volume mixer -- make
sure the checkbox for "Mute" is un-checked on the "line-in" control.

You should now be able to hear the audio during capture. Fair warning -- I'm
not sure how well this setting is preserved by the OS or if MM explicitly
mutes the "line-in" in the capture wizard; I typically need to go into the
volume control and explicitly set it each time I want to hear the audio
during capture.

Hope this helps!
