Part of movie cutoff in Playback on W-Media Player
I burned a movie containing video, audio amd music. It plays back perfectly
on the viewer in MovieMaker. But playback on Windows media player cuts off
about 3/8 of each frame of the movie/transitions. Any ideas why?

windows movie maker burning files problem
hello:
when i try to burn files in the movie maker it only ever burns to 58%
and then stops but even if i leave it for a couple of hours and cancel
it tells me i have iterupted burn process. can anyone tell me why it

Burning
My friend's 18th birthday is approaching so I decided to make her a movie
with lots of pictures and videos of us. The entire thing is 1,709kb (so just
over a MB). I wanted to burn it to a dvd but when I tried my standard dvd
burning program, the file wouldn't even come up due to it's formatting. When
I tried burning through movie maker, it appeared to only work with CDs, but I
tried anyway. I left for a bit and returned and it said it would take over
12,000 minutes to complete (and the minutes were still rising.) I cancelled
it and tried a cd and got the same results.

unspecified error in opening a project
I have a complex project for my husband 50, I put a lot of clips together
matching it with sound, frame by frame, a lot of work, saved the project -
Movie Maker does not want to open it with the message "unspecified error"
First I thought it might be memory problems. I cleaned the harddrive,
killed some big files which were in â??collectionâ?? for some projects. I have
700 Mb RAM and 17 Gbt harddrive disk memory, so the memory should not be a
problem.
I tried to save just a little project, with one clip â?? it gives the same
error and does not open it.
By some reasons it opens all the collection, even when I donâ??t need it in
my new project. I suspect that it wants to find all the references, even the
old and deleted ones and does not want to work on the new project without it.
Allright, I made my N6 attempts to save at least a small part of the
project (700 Mbt) as a movie, and not only as a project. Save as a movie,
please, all the clips are in the directory in front of me, no crossesâ??, all
of them are playing fine â?? Nope, it says that canâ??t save as it is missing
some clips or sources are missing or modified. I did not touch the sources,
but edited a clip directly in the timeline.
By some reasons it keeps memory of my very first project, which I lost,
and so I deleted references to it. When I try to save it as a movie or when I
check new project file properties it shows the 1st project nameâ?¦ Does it let
me to work on the new project or I am stuck with the unfinished old one?
I check CPU usage when it is frozen - only 2-4 % in use, and the "program is
running"
I aksed papaJohn - he sent me to read his comments, thank you very much, but
I did not find the answer to my problem
I am struggling with this project (5 converted vobs to AVI) for a week, I
aready work by small pieces, but I can't open them also now, and the matter
is simple, there is something wrong in WMM - I can't afford loosing all my
work.

Morning all,
I am having difficulty in doing the last stage of taking a Project file and
creating a avi file. I have done everything humanly possible to find the
porblem and I have plenty of room on my HD and loads memeory and all the
pictures and movies importewd are all there to be able to be used but still
wont create final output.

Codec installation
I need to download and install the codec for MM2 that will handle AVI files.
Footage is from 8mm camcorder that I shot, recorded to DVD using my stand
alone DVD recorder to import directly into MM. I convert the footage to AVI
using a conversion software to create an AVI file.
MM2 sees file just fine as AVI on the HD, but when importing, says requisite
codec isn't installed.
I thought I did just that with the automatic update codecs checkbox checked,
but apparently, I still need to install. Can't locate the file and do not
know what to look for.
Any help from the peanut gallery?

xp laptop shuts down when capturing video from camcorder using movie maker at high quality (large)

Situation:
My laptop shuts down without any messages (even after reboot) when I
try to capture video from my camcorder using Windows Movie maker. At
first this was happening only when I used the high quality (large)
video setting instead of the recommended setting, which is pathetic
video quality. Anyways - I tried my first tape which had about 20
minutes of recording at the recommended setting and it captured without
any issues. After that I tried it with high quality setting, as I wasnt
happy with the video quality and poof the laptop just shut down. After
that I started looking the problem up and saw a bunch of references to
similar problems. But none that helped me because they were mostly
hardware specs related, one aspect I think I am covered on except for
the video card which I doubt is a problem - details of the hardware are
below. I dont get any error reports even when I reboot the laptop -
dont know what the problem is but need to figure out how to stop it
from happening - or my HDD will be toast at this rate.
Hardware specs
Laptop - Toshiba Tecra M2, Centrino 2Ghz, 2GB RAM, 80 GB HDD (25GB
free), NVIDIA GeForceFX Go5200 64MB

I use a different editing app at the minute and am bringing my final AVI

PPT to DVD
I am trying to make a DVD for my daughter that just got married. I
have a power point show that we used for bridal shower, a multitude of
pictures from the wedding and a video made with a Sony DCR-HC30.
I want to import the PPT presentation to MM2. I don't want to have to
do each slide separately if I can help it. Once the PPT is imported, I
want to add on the video which has already be transferred to a VCR
tape. (I don't have a fire wire connection) and then add the pictures.
I was at Papa John's site and really didn't see anything to help out.
If anyone has any suggestions, I am all sighted to read it.

Chroma Key and Movie Maker?
Has anyone here used Chroma Key with Movie Maker and How did you do it and
what was your opinion on ease of use and limits. What kind of screendid you
use anyone ever used painted back ground?
I'm going to try some videos for my sons hockey team with interviews
hopefully using a Green Screen with Stats and stuff in the back of the kids
maybe some graphics of the team and league logos.

Compatible Audio file types
I am trying to import music files into my videos but it seems with WMM that
it doesn't support many file types. My audio files seem to have a .cda
extension but need to be .wav or .mp3 for example. Does anyone have any
advice or suggestions to get round this.

saving edited movie to dv-avi - output is faster than input
I have a movie edited with about 50 clips. There is also a music track. For
some transitions, the music clips or distorts.
I've run into this before with titles and transitions, so the previous
solution was to save without music, creating one continuous avi file, then
create a 2nd project with this one avi file and add the music in.
when I try this solution for my current project, the avi with no sound ends
up 2 seconds shorter than it should be (3:55 instead of 3:57). Since the
video was synched to the audio, I need it to be the same length. Or I need
to be able to speed up the music by this same 2 seconds.
Or, if someone has a solution as to why the music distorts at the transition
points, that would solve my issue as well. My pc is p4 2G with 512M ram, but
I've tried on another machine with better specs and get the same results. it
seems as if movie maker just cannot process too many things at once.

Poor capture quality on Sony Digital8
I have a Sony Digital8 DCR-TRV280, that has poor capture quality.
I have conneted to my laptop with the "I-DV/USB" cable. I tried the adjust
the Video settings/output size, but the best resolution I can chose is
320x240. It also will not let me chose the DV-AVI to save the movie.
The output is of 320x240 is so low that playback is bad. Is this the best to
expect or should I start to look at other software packages?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Make effects temporary

i recently started to work with Windows Movie Maker.
A nice tool and I'm getting along very well, but there is one thing I didn't
yet understand :
If i have a, lets say 10 second clip, how can I apply an effect, for example
the slow down effect for the period from second 3-7 ?.
So the clip would have normal speed until the 3rd second, then from 3-7
slowmotion, and from 7-10 normal speed again.

Combine the two software to create your own very best photo movie.
Step 1:
Import your pictures into photo story 3 then customize the effects that you
want (ex. transition, zooming effect, etc.)
Manually adjust the transition and photo lenght in seconds depends on the
lenght of your music that you want.
(Don't import or add your music into photo story 3)
Save your movie file into higher as possible resolution*
*Select the profile for computer playback 1024x768 Pixels
Step 2:
Import you video into Windows Movie Maker 2
Add professional looking titles and credits (ex. the title of your photo
movie, music & artist information, director etc.)
Then add the video you have imported in MM2 storyboard or timeline mode.
Save your movie into your computer select the option "Best Fit File Size"
into maximum as possible. The Click next...
Step: 3
Play your done photo movie into Windows Media Player 9 or 10 for better

Audio and Video in Playback stop
Hi, my problem is that when I create a movie on the timeline, I can start the
preview, but after a few seconds of playback the video freezes and all the
sound stops. I've run a virus scan and nothing showed up, and I'm pretty
sure I haven't had any codec problems. This happened before, and I don't
want to reinstall MM again, so any help would be appreciated.
I'm running an Intel P4 3.2 ghz with 512 ram and a radeon 9200 256mb

Audio/Music problem
Hi everyone
I'm having problems with imported audio tracks (mp3). Once I dragged it on
the timeline it won't play - BUT: If I click on the second clip (while the
mp3 is running) it actually works. Dito for the following clips.
I read here that MM doesn't like mp3. Well, why am I able to play it from
the second clip that's affected then?
Any ideas?

Changing Default Aspect Ratio to 640 x 480: Error Message
Hello.
I'm using Windows XP Home, SP-2, on a Dell Dimension 8400 computer.
This question involves capturing video to a WMV file.
The aspect ratio of the WMV I've been making is too small. I noticed
the default setting is 320 x 240, which for me is too small.
I reset the aspect ratio to 640 x 480, and this is the error message I
got:
"The video device is currently in use. Close any other application
that is using the device and try again."
I get this message all the time, no matter what. In fact, I've
formatted my hard drive, reinstalled Windows XP and just a few other
things (including the Hauppauge Win TV 2000 drivers), and tried making
a WMV capture again. I can't get the aspect ratio changed.
Can anyone please tell me what is causing this error, and if there is
a workaround for it? If you need further details from me about my
setup, configuration, etc., please let me know.

Movie Maker Hangs
I have a new system with 2gb of memory, Windows MCE 2005 with SP2. Also, what
I believe to be the latest version of MovieMaker.
My project consists of about 50 photos. Too many times when I try to drag
the timeline cursor, Movie Maker will just hang, typically with an East/West
cursor. My only recourse is to kill the task. I think it seems to happen
mostly if I try to drag the time-line too quickly, but I'm not sure.
Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a later version of Movie Maker?
My 'About' dialog says I have version 2.1.4026.0

Can't fast forward my finished movie.
I successfully saved my movie to a CD, but when I play it back, I can't fast
forward or jump ahead.
When I move the slider ahead, as soon as I let go, it goes right back to
where it was.

PS3 stories in MM: wich profile for best result?

I am working on a MM project (PAL, 4:3) including both DV-AVI clips from a
camcorder and PS stories made from 4:3 high quality pictures. After editing,
I want to save as dv-avi, compress with TMPGenc and author with IfoEdit.
My question: in order to have the best possible result from this, which
profile should I choose when generating my PS stories to be inserted in MM?

Movie Maker stops capturing 15 min into a 1hr miniDV tape
While trying to capture all of a 1hour mini DV tape Movie Maker will only
record the first 15 minutes and while it still syas that it is capturing, the
time & the file size do not continue to increase. A task manager check of
applications shows that the System Idle process is using 98% of the cycles.
And, the cameras time counter is at over 30 minutes while the capture counter
has only reached 15 minutes. This is the first time I have ever tried using
Movie Maker, and I do have an nVidia 6600GT graphics card in my box, with
driver version 7.7.7.7 from July 2005. Also uning a Sony mini DV DCR-HC32
camcorder for playback via firewire. Anyone else have a similar prob? I have
searched this group, papajohns, google and am not able to find any similar

Importing recorded video saved via Media Center?
I'm very new to MM so please be gentle. I have recorded some programs on my
PC using Media Center and want to import them into MM. Under capture video I
can capture from device or import video. I have captured video from my Sony
Digital8 camera just fine and it looks like I can capture "live" TV with the
video card in the pc but how do I access a show (video) that I recorded? I
tried the "Import Video" but I don't know where Media Center stores recorded
programs or even the file ext used. Any assistance would be greatly
appreciated.

importing DVD to Windows Movie Maker
I have a panasonic DVD camcorder and I used a DVD-R and finalized the disc.
I can play the video on my computer. However, I can't import into the movie
maker. How do I convert it over to a supported file type such as: .asf,

Playback Missing Pic but not sound later in saved version
I Have what I want, can save it in it's entirety in low format when saving as
movie file, the High Quality (Small) but it's crappy quality, if I try to
save to High Quality (Large) Or High Quality NTSC or most Best Fit for my
computer, at some point, 7-9 mins into the 15 min slide show, the audio keeps
going & the picture hangs up or goes to black, never coming back, just audio
from that point on. I need to find a way to make this work so this doesn't
happen-HELP.

burning to Nero Start Smart
When I attempt to "add" any of my completed movie files to my list of items
to burn to DVD, I get the message "no compatible file found". I have tried
mpg2, wswmm, wmv, avi.
Is it this program, do I need to upgrade to Nero6 Ultra Edition, or can
anyone recommend another program that is free and tried and true? Thanks.

"Anchoring" Audio Clips to Adjacent Video in Timeline
Can it be done?
I'm working on a promo video for a singer friend, which will be a
collage of clips from various performances. The video (and
poor-quality audio) were captured from DV tape shot at the events. I
also have good-quality audio clips dubbed straight from the mixer
board.
BAsically I'm adding the good audio clips to the timeline, shifting
until they synchronize with the poor audio on the video clips, and then
muting the bad audio.
The problem is that I have 4 or 5 video and a corresponding 4 or 5
audio clips to combine into one 3-minute feature. If I decide to
fine-tune anything on the video line (such as slightly stretching a
fade), I lose audio synch for that clip as well as all following clips.
I can re-synch, but it's annoying.
I've tried saving each individual clip with it's synched audio, and
then combining the 4 or 5 clips, but that turns out to be far too
restrictive of any tweaking I might want to do. Basically I want each
sub-clip to start with a title and fade to video, with the synched
audio fading in before the video transition (somewhere in the middle of
the title). And I want to be able to make length and transition
adjustments to the title without de-synching the sound from the main
video.
BTW, thanks to all who emailed me and recommended reading the "Zero to
Hero" book, I bought it and it's helpful. But it's just reinforcing
what I'm beginning to suspect, ie MM2 is a great tool for a beginner to
get his feet wet, but perhaps it falls short in flexibility once you
want to get a little more creative.

Saving MovieMaker or Photostory output to DVD's
I have made completed several projects with Moviemaker and Photostory. When
using the .wmv files and Roxio Easy Media creator 7.5 I am having numerous
problems. When writing to dvd-r's I have some success but a lot of pauses
and skips. When writing to dvd +rw's I appear to have total success. All
of the dvd+rws play on my home dvd player. When writing to dvd+r's, I have
had no success.
All of the DVD's I have created work fine on my computer.
My dvd burner is at least 3 years old and my home dvd player is 4 years old.
Does anyone have any suggestions. My desire is to burn dvd's that will play
on my home DVD player.

I'm using SmartSound to make a track. It claims that the entire track is
"inserted into Movie Maker" with just a click of the button. My struggles

Firewire Connection
I have a Dell Dim 4500 with no port to accept a firewire connection. How
does one go about having one installed? Is it a do it yourself project?

Movie Maker has stopped reconizing my Panasonic PV-DC252 mini DV
I have used my palmcorder with firewire (IEEE) connection and Movie Maker in
the past but in the last month it will not reconize my palmcorder.
My USB picture connection works fine.

when I try to work with video on my movie maker a message comes up that says
the cineplayer decoder has not been activated. you must activate the product

Problems with fire wire or movie maker
I used Movie Maker to edit video from my sony mini dv and 8mm digital. I
also use Sonic to direct burn my tapes. I burned about 20 tapes, and I came
back to extract video to mm to edit from my 8mm digital. Now my camera
screen says I have dv in but movie maker won't recognize my camera. If I
restart my computer it will recognize it but it freezes up. Don't understand
