New computer Windows XP Media Center - Get this error message when trying to
import photos or videos into Movie Maker 2: C:\Documents and
Settings\john\Desktop\e2p1.jpg could not be imported. Unspecified error
When I close Movie Maker and reopen it, Pictures show in collection pane,
but cannot insert in storyline.

Can you open this jpg file in your browser?
Will MSPaint open it? Do you have a graphics
package better than MSPaint?

If either of the first two are true, you can do an
ALT-PrtSc screen capture to your buffer, and
open MSPaint, and do a CTRL-V to paste the
buffer into Paint. Then, save it as a bmp file, or
any of the other formats (bmp would be best for
slide shows, although I don't know how MM2
reacts to mixing jpegs with bmps in the same
project -- caveat emptor!).

You're saying you can open it on another PC,
then? If so, go to that PC, open the file, do an
ALT-PrtSc screen capture to your buffer, and
open MSPaint, and do a CTRL-V to paste the
buffer into Paint. Then, save it as a bmp file, or
any of the other formats (bmp would be best for
slide shows, although I don't know how MM2
reacts to mixing jpegs with bmps in the same
project -- caveat emptor!). If all that sounds
familiar, I just copied/pasted. :)

After that, transfer this new file to the PC where
you were having trouble, and substitute this file
on your timeline instead of the jpg that was
causing the grief.

billy,

Did you understand what I was saying to do... to
fix your broken jpg file? If so, and you went through
the steps, what were the results?
