Would anyone offer some suggestions for DVD labeling options. I'd like to
know some options like 1) special printer (price, brand/models, what it
does), 2) labels (brands, type, coments), an 3) whatever else is out there

Ideally, to start out, I'm trying to find something inexpensive, like
adhesive, that can be printed with color or b&w laser, stuck on (to cover up
words like "Maxell" "DVD+RW", etc.), and still look pretty good.

Also, for stick on kits, can mainstream (like MS Word) software be used, or
do I have to install a Micky Mouse CD that comes in the labeling kit

Thanks,
George

My suggestion is to not use stick-on labels.... print right onto printable
ones....

The tight clearance areas of laptops end up with labels causing issues...
from the disc not playing to worse.

PapaJohn,
I've been seeing these cds and was interested, but what kind of printer
works with these? I don't see them going through my HP.

I have LightScribe on one machine now, but I'd like to try the printable cds
on my other machines.

Hugs,

Epson do a good range, in the UK it's the R200/300 models in the budget
range, under £100.

I tried the stick on labels and find them unacceptable. I don't have Light
Scribe which sounds wonderful. So far I haven't addressed this issue myself
but would like to.

I have an Epson R200 printer that cost about $80 (with ink).... and it does
a great job. I also have the LightScribe feature on my new HP laptop.

I much prefer the printer to the LightScribe, and the silver surfaced discs
to the white ones when it comes to the discs themselves.

I have an Epson R300 and it prints direct on discs.
The nearly identical R200 is available refurb from
Epson for ~$75 including shipping. Can't hardly beat
a deal like that. I got a continuous ink supply kit from
a guy on eBay and it greatly decreases the cost of
color printing. Recommended.

I'm not terribly impressed with the LightScribe except for
the convienence in a laptop (or equivalent portable use).
It is monochrome, low-contrast, slow, requires special
hardware, and works only on a few (more expensive)
kinds of discs.

guess I'm "livin' in the past". I have made and given out hundreds of
cd's/DVD's to friends and families using labels and never had anyone
complain or report back any problem. However, after reading this post am
definitely going to investigate the printable dvd's a little closer.
thanks guys

The problem with labels is, coming unstuck, even worse coming unstuck whilst
in the player!! The glue seeping into the layers of the dvd and causing
problems, not sticking the label on centrally, which causes it too wobble
inside the plaer.
I must say as well I did hundreds before inkjet printing was around,
although a few of my older ones here are suffering from coming off.

Tell me about it! I have cleaned many a drive when the label got caught up
in it, when I was working. I won't put a disk with a homemade stuck on label
in any of my players.

I don't mind that Light Scribe is slow. I like the way it looks and am happy
with it.

The epson 220 prints dvd's and cd's very well. It all depends on what
the original image is you are using. If the image is a low quality
image it will llok bad. Here is also a link to a Continuous ink system
for the Epson 220 that will save money on ink.
