    - Video quality I have succesfully recorded video to Movie Maker from a Sony Handycam thru the firewire port, but am shocked at the poor quality of the recording, versus what I watch directly on my Handycam. My idea was to put video from my camera to CD or DVD and save for posterity. I obviously have much to learn about doing this right.     - Windows Movie Maker 2 I am using a Sony DCR-TRV260 NTSC for making videos. I generally set the camera to LP for shooting video, but when I download to Movie Maker 2, my video comes out showing digital pixels which blurs the images, and distorts the finished movie. My question: Could this be caused by my camera settings, and should I changed my settings back to SP, or is there another problem I am not aware of when configuring my options in Movie Maker 2?     - Audio vs Audio/Music I have still pictures (NO VIDEO), narration, and music that I want to all go at the same time. So the music is background and the narration is heard while the pictures are passing by. I cannot figure out how to get background music. It seems like the only way is if I have video. Audio levels don't work for both narration and music in the Audio/Music row of the timeline. How do you balance music and narration in the Audio/Music row?     - Problems getting movie to go on cd I have tried every thing to get movie maker to put my movie on cd but it gives me an error message that says something like movie maker does not detect a burner on my computer. My computer came with a dvd burner. I tried to do what they say to do on the web site but none of that works. I have even un-installed and re-installed the program to see if that would help, it does not.     - Problems getting movie maker to transfer to cd I have used movie maker 2 to create a slide show of pictures. I like the way it looks but I am not able to transfer it to cd.     - Custom Effects and Transitions not working Downloaded the custom effects and transitions from MS. Followed the instructions, but still no extra effects. The original effects still work fine. The only thing I didn't understand in the instructions was compiling to visual c++. Not sure if this applies to me or not. Here are the instructions I followed: Create the AddOnTFX directory in Movie Maker's Shared install directory (C:\Program files\Movie Maker\Shared\AddOnTFX), and then copy the XML files from the XML directory in this sample (C:\MMSTFX\XML\*.xml) to the directory you created. Register the enclosed DLL, MMSTFX.dll, in the sample's Bin directory by typing regsvr32 c:\MMSTFX\Bin\MMSTFX.dll from the command line. Run Movie Maker and look for the new transitions and effects. When compiling this sample be sure to add the DXMedia SDK's include directory (C:\DXMedia\Include) to your Visual C++ include path.     - Some quality loss when written back to tape Hi, I captured in DV-AVI format, supposed to be lossless, and then wrote back to DV tape. When watching edited tape and original tape using frame by frame it is obvious that some quality was lost when transferred to Movie Maker and back to tape.     - Sharp VL-Z1 ... Pls help Hi there, I was trying to download the video from the camcoder VL-Z1 to my pc through the firewire but failed. I then tried the same thing on another pc and it works, both pc are running Win XP. The only difference I spotted was my pc doesn't really "recognize" the camcoder while the other does as message pop-up as soon as I connect the camcoder to the pc. Did I miss out anything?     - Not recognizing mpeg files Occasionally, I take video footage on my little sony digital still camera and it captures audio and video in mpeg format. When I try to import that file into wmm (version 2), it will only capture about the first 5-10 seconds. Then it tends to freeze when working with that file. I like the easy ability to that wmm 2 offers to take a video file, and shrink it down into a size fit for email. That is why I take video footage with our still camera...little clips that I want to email, but still need to shrink. How can I correct this importing problem.     - Audio out of synch I added some titles and credits to a MPG captured from my video camera. The credits take a while, so I added some background audio that plays while the credits are running. Then I saved the whole thing as a WMV (2.1 mbps NTSC). It looks fabulous when viewed in the media player, but when I burn a DVD (with Sonic MyDVD) the audio is horribly out of synch (the credits end WAY before the background audio does, even though they match up in the timeline). I thought maybe the background audio was the problem, so I switched it from MP3 to WAV, but no change. So now I'm thinking maybe it's a problem with the titles and credits -- it's almost like the timeline is distorted or it's dropping frames somewhere along the way. Thanks to anyone who can help!     - new to wmm, need help badly amd athlon 64 processor, 3200+ @2.2 ghz 512 mb pc2700 ddr sdram 80 gb 7200rpm ultra dma hard drive my presario came loaded with wmm2. i own a jvc gr-d33u mini dv camcorder. i am using a brand new firewire. during video capture i can control camera, however at the end of capture, "video not captured correctly, make sure device is configured correctly" error message is displayed. pc recognizes dv device, and is operating correctly. it is on video on cam. i got it to work one time so i know it can work. is there something i should know about temp storage files or save-to files. i think thats what i messed with when i got it to work, but now i'm going nuts!! i tried win dv, image mixer 1.7, renaming codecs, reinstalling directx 9, nothing seems to work. like i said, it worked fine once after messing w/ files. then the next time (2hrs later) it would not work. this is making me crazy, please help...thanks Tag: No sound in preview window Tag: 22582

    - Burning video to DVD I used the windows media codec to save 1 1/2 hours of home video footage and it compressed great (about 1 GB). I'm pleased with the quality, but when I bring it into SONIC MYDVD to burn it it says there isn't enough room. I'm using Windows XP Professional and the burned and compression worked great but how do I fit it onto a DVD? I've tried tons of different compressions including Microsoft MPEG4 Codec V.2 and the windows media codec seemed to give better results. If Sonic is reconverting it back into MPEG2 format that I don't get what good these better compression methods are if when you burn them you lose it? If anybody understands this please help. Thanks.     - Firewire upload problem I have a Firewire card which came from an older PC (1999 ADS Technologies PCI card. Chip details: 94A3CEJ TSB12LV22 F71125A) When the card was installed, XP automatically defined it as a "Texas Instruments OHCI compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller" & installed the drivers etc for it. I am trying to use Microsoft Movie Maker2 to import Digital Movies from a Sony Digital Handycam. Unfortunately this, and another program I have tried, inform me that "A video capture device was not connected. Verify that a device is turned on and connected properly, and then try again," I have checked the card details in Device Manager & there is no conflict & the device is "operating correctly". The IRQ assigned is 19 & not shared with any other device. Can you shed any light on what may be preventing recognition of the card/handycam.???     - AVI or WMV I am creating a 20 minute movie (picture slide show JPGs) with 5 music (wma) files. I read on this board that the AVI format delivers the best quality for burning it on a DVD. However when I preview the avi in Sonic or in RealPlayer, the music at more than one occassion has a slight hickup . When I create a WMV file the audio is smooth but I am afraid that the quality is compromised.     - Is this a MM2 Codec problem? When I add a WMA or MP3 music track to edited clips in MM2 and save the movie as DV-AVI or back to the camera, I get annoying sound clipping in the music track. This clipping usually corresponds closely to an edit in the video stream but it doesn't happen at every edit! The same problem is not nearly as apparent using WAV files or if the movie is saved at at WMV quality. I prefer to save at DV-AVI because this seems to produce higher quality DVDs than WMV files do. Does anyone know if this is a codec/bug problem in MM2 and if there is a work around? What codecs does MM2 use to encode DV-AVI? Is it possible to force MM2 to use particular codecs?     - DV capture worked twice, then froze ... I got to capture 2 DV's from my Sony DCR-H16E and succesfully edit them etc. using Windows Movie Maker 2.0.3312.0. On trying to capture a third, the capturing freezes on the first frame and does not copy 1 image or second to disk. I've tried everything: downloading Movie Maker again, rebooting, reconnecting etc. I see this problem has been signalled before, but has not been answered definitively. That's normal..... open the LCD screen of the camcorder to listen to it as
you capture.

Hello there,

Your message does not say whether the capture card is a Firewire card or an
analog card. If it is Analog, you will probably find that you need to run an
additional cable between the audio out on your camera to the line-in on your
sound card.

If the card is a firewire, please give full details of the problem.
