MM slow on 2nd hard drive

I have a 2nd HHD, identical in every respect to my C
drive except that is FAT and not NTFS. I wanted to use it
for my MM2 work to save space on C but it is EXTREMELY
slow doing anything on it. One piece of DV took 2 mins to
capture and import files onto C, whereas onto D it took
12 mins. Editing is a pain on D too.
Is this due to FAT rather than NTFS, or due to data
having to cross the bus from the program files on C, to
the video on D? In other words will I cure it by
upgrading D to NTFS or is the bus still going to be a
bottleneck?
I have a 2.4 processor, 1GB 333 DDR RAM, each HDD is 60GB
7200rpm, so a reasonable spec system.

Chris,

1. You definitely should convert the drive to NTFS so you're not limited to
a 4GB file size. It's easy to convert a drive from FAT32 to NTFS. Just
open a Command Prompt window, and type:

CONVERT X: /fs:ntfs

Where X: is the letter of the drive you want to convert.

2. You should make sure that Movie Maker's temporary storage folder is on
the same drive as the one you are using for capturing.

Tools -> Options -> General -> Temporary Storage
