    - Audio out of synch I added some titles and credits to a MPG captured from my video camera. The credits take a while, so I added some background audio that plays while the credits are running. Then I saved the whole thing as a WMV (2.1 mbps NTSC). It looks fabulous when viewed in the media player, but when I burn a DVD (with Sonic MyDVD) the audio is horribly out of synch (the credits end WAY before the background audio does, even though they match up in the timeline). I thought maybe the background audio was the problem, so I switched it from MP3 to WAV, but no change. So now I'm thinking maybe it's a problem with the titles and credits -- it's almost like the timeline is distorted or it's dropping frames somewhere along the way. Thanks to anyone who can help!     - new to wmm, need help badly amd athlon 64 processor, 3200+ @2.2 ghz 512 mb pc2700 ddr sdram 80 gb 7200rpm ultra dma hard drive my presario came loaded with wmm2. i own a jvc gr-d33u mini dv camcorder. i am using a brand new firewire. during video capture i can control camera, however at the end of capture, "video not captured correctly, make sure device is configured correctly" error message is displayed. pc recognizes dv device, and is operating correctly. it is on video on cam. i got it to work one time so i know it can work. is there something i should know about temp storage files or save-to files. i think thats what i messed with when i got it to work, but now i'm going nuts!! i tried win dv, image mixer 1.7, renaming codecs, reinstalling directx 9, nothing seems to work. like i said, it worked fine once after messing w/ files. then the next time (2hrs later) it would not work. this is making me crazy, please help...thanks Tag: pocket pc Tag: 22582

    - Burning video to DVD I used the windows media codec to save 1 1/2 hours of home video footage and it compressed great (about 1 GB). I'm pleased with the quality, but when I bring it into SONIC MYDVD to burn it it says there isn't enough room. I'm using Windows XP Professional and the burned and compression worked great but how do I fit it onto a DVD? I've tried tons of different compressions including Microsoft MPEG4 Codec V.2 and the windows media codec seemed to give better results. If Sonic is reconverting it back into MPEG2 format that I don't get what good these better compression methods are if when you burn them you lose it? If anybody understands this please help. Thanks.     - Firewire upload problem I have a Firewire card which came from an older PC (1999 ADS Technologies PCI card. Chip details: 94A3CEJ TSB12LV22 F71125A) When the card was installed, XP automatically defined it as a "Texas Instruments OHCI compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller" & installed the drivers etc for it. I am trying to use Microsoft Movie Maker2 to import Digital Movies from a Sony Digital Handycam. Unfortunately this, and another program I have tried, inform me that "A video capture device was not connected. Verify that a device is turned on and connected properly, and then try again," I have checked the card details in Device Manager & there is no conflict & the device is "operating correctly". The IRQ assigned is 19 & not shared with any other device. Can you shed any light on what may be preventing recognition of the card/handycam.???     - AVI or WMV I am creating a 20 minute movie (picture slide show JPGs) with 5 music (wma) files. I read on this board that the AVI format delivers the best quality for burning it on a DVD. However when I preview the avi in Sonic or in RealPlayer, the music at more than one occassion has a slight hickup . When I create a WMV file the audio is smooth but I am afraid that the quality is compromised.     - Is this a MM2 Codec problem? When I add a WMA or MP3 music track to edited clips in MM2 and save the movie as DV-AVI or back to the camera, I get annoying sound clipping in the music track. This clipping usually corresponds closely to an edit in the video stream but it doesn't happen at every edit! The same problem is not nearly as apparent using WAV files or if the movie is saved at at WMV quality. I prefer to save at DV-AVI because this seems to produce higher quality DVDs than WMV files do. Does anyone know if this is a codec/bug problem in MM2 and if there is a work around? What codecs does MM2 use to encode DV-AVI? Is it possible to force MM2 to use particular codecs?     - Can't get movie to play on DVD player Can anyone PLEASE help me? I am able to record my movie onto a CD-R, however, when I put it into my DVD player all I get is a folder - no movie. How do I get it to save in the correct format to play on my DVD player.     - DV capture worked twice, then froze ... I got to capture 2 DV's from my Sony DCR-H16E and succesfully edit them etc. using Windows Movie Maker 2.0.3312.0. On trying to capture a third, the capturing freezes on the first frame and does not copy 1 image or second to disk. I've tried everything: downloading Movie Maker again, rebooting, reconnecting etc. I see this problem has been signalled before, but has not been answered definitively. On my brandnew PC (Pentium 4, 1.024 Mb RAM, 220 Gb disk, etc) I have all the updated versions of the related software, so that can't be the problem.     - Cannot save my movie file... Background info: E: drive has 7.64 gigabytes of free space. E:\cs (target folder for my movie) is NOT read-only or system. I have 512 mb of RAM (390 free at any time) - the entire uncompressed movie is 76mb. All clips i'm importing are using divx 5.2 avi codecs. No pictures or audio involved. Process: After adding my clips to the storyboard, i go to save them as a movie. The wizard shows up, i choose "My Computer" as save location. I name the movie "CSvid" Location i save to is "E:\cs" In format section i have tried all options. I get the following error: Windows Movie Maker cannot save the movie to the specified location. Verify that the original source files used in your movie are still available, that the saving location is still available, and that there is enough free disk space available, and then try again. Clearly i have the disk space, and since i do not change any of my clips (or move them on hard drive) the source files do not change from import time to compile time. The folder "E:\cs" remains on hard drive entire time. So that isn't the problem either. And as i mentioned above it isnt read only or system. Attempts i have made to fix: Re-registered dll's successfully. Re-installed movie maker 2. Re-installed all codecs. Saved to various drives and locations (no luck). Re-imported clips into movie maker 2. Tried it with and without audio. Tried every format available, same error everytime. 1 last thing that may be vital... I used this program quite extensively on Microsoft Windows XP Professional without any troubles, however this time i am using Microsoft Windows XP 2003 Professional with Service Pack 1.     - This movie maker program can do nothing but crash Every single edit I make to the time line shuts the program down. I'm using verion 5.1.. but thats even confusing. Its WMM 2, but when you click on the ABOUT key in the help menu it says 5.1. And then does anybody know why Media Player 9 slows down the tunes? For a split second they start out fine, but then there is a slight drag in the music after that split second. Its so frustrating.     - Video capture question... Hi...trying to capture video from a 8mm analog camera to store on DVD, and am havving a slew of seemingly random problems. A great deal of the videos are of flying, and I get a very jerky, almost double picture. Even the finished product on media player looks the same way, but the viewfinder of the camera is fine. On another tape, I get a large white horizontal bar that randomly appears and cover about 1/3 of the picture. Any ideas as to what could be causing these issues? TIA...     - Here's the scoop I found on Windows Movie Maker to DVD Microsoft is working on direct DVD write capability for this product, but for now is suggesting third party solutions. Here's the link for the one recommended by MS...looks like the basic $49.99 version would suit your needs.     - Video Quality Hi Papajohn, Let me see if I have this straight. As one uses a digital video camera, the video is being saved in an avi format. When I capture the video to an avi format using MM, it is the original avi file? In other words, there is no loss of quality as it is the same 1's and 0's as what is on the digital video camera cassette? When I create and import video clips into a MM and onto the project timeline, it is still in the original AVI format? I have a pocket pc runing media player 8 for pocket pc. I cant upgrade to 2003 version. How can i encode video using movie maker 2 to play on my handheld. Movie maker encodes using version 9 and i need 8.

Movie Maker uses version 7 for the 3 Pocket PC choices.... they are the only
exceptions to the version 9 rule of thumb.

And you can use custom profiles with versions 7, 8 or 9.
