        • uploading video to a web site??? Hi everyone, I have a web site with still photos and would like to upload a video. What do I need to do?? Does it take a special web site or will any one do?? Could use some help and/or advice, please. Thanks! • Problems with MM2 crashing I've been through PapaJohn's pages and through another forum and can't seem to pinpoint my problem. 'had no problem working with Movie Maker up until I connected my laptop to my newly purchased MiniDV Camcorder. All I'm trying to do at this point is capture recorded video from my camera. I had seen PapaJohn's pages mention divxaf.ax and I don't see that in the list of codecs within MM2's Options page nor can I figure out if I've got that anyplace else on my machine. I DID disable the other codecs there randomly to see if that'd help matters....but it didn't. I've got plenty of resources (1.5 gig of Ram and plenty of free space). Any ideas would be welcomed. Thanks in advance. Tag: I can play/rewind etc but not view Tag: 41044

I have saved slide shows with success but not movies. The movie is about 30 mins long. -- Thanks Steve Tag: I can play/rewind etc but not view Tag: 41039

        • Movie Maker running backwards ? Was making a movie out of a number of clips. The "Time Remaining " counter kept increasing. I cancelled the movie when it reached 24000 minutes. Based on past experience it should have taken about 45 minutes. Tried again and the same thing happened. Any ideas ? Tag: I can play/rewind etc but not view Tag: 41030

        • Communication with Microsoft Sales about MM2 I tried dozens of way to get an email address of the Sales group to ask if Microsoft has any plans to update or replace MM2 and when. I sent an email to Customer Service but they reply that I have to discuss it with the Microsoft Sales and Information (MSI group). Anybody has their email address. I could not find it in the website. If sufficient inquiries come to them about MM, they themselves may start talking about it and something may be started. Tag: I can play/rewind etc but not view Tag: 41023

        • Bugs in movie maker? I'm trying to make about a one hour film and it requires editing segments and then merging them into the project film. There are lots of problems here. When inserting, removing or editing clips in storyboard, the displayed pictures in storyboard are not whats in the clip at that point. Some clips become truncated. Evidently, the arrangement put in storyboard is lost when you sign off because saving the project saves only the original capture and not the storyboard revisions. To save the storyboard arrangement i have to save it as a movie file. If you import the movie you saved for further revisions, the clips are divided helter skelter making more editing a nightmare. My film now has some missing clips, a couple truncated clips and one clip that repeats itself twice and then appears again elsewhere in the movie. Microsoft has a promising product here but i hope they're still working back at the drawing board. Tag: I can play/rewind etc but not view Tag: 41020

        • wmp10 and mm2.1 Anyone can help? I record avi and mpeg files and transfer to my PC for making birthday or wedding movies. Both wpm10 or mm2.1 can not rotate clockwise or vice-versa (i.e. 90 or 180 degrees) the movie files?? So i.e. the fireworks appear from left or right side instead of the bottom of the movie. It looks rather funny!!! Helps appreciated. -- Mahmut Tag: I can play/rewind etc but not view Tag: 41019

        • Clicks in dv-avi saves I did my first dv-avi save of a project yesterday and low and behold, I did indeed get the sound clicks at the beginning and ending of transitions! I saved the same project to High quality NTSC with no problems at all. Did we decide there was a fix for this? I'm sorry. I know it's been discussed and I should have paid more attention. • FAQ: #20050815 Crashes & Hangs Movie Maker FAQ 1 Last updated 6th January 2005 Crashing and Hanging ================ 1) What is a Codec? ============== A Codec is software that was first created to deal with the transposition of data from one form into another. One of the first important Codecs was a procedure still used today called Soundex. I believe the first proper use of Soundex was by the Mormons. Most of us use Soundex or its equivalent every time we use a spell checker. The Mormons use it in their vast database of all persons baptised by them. It enables very fast data searches on similar sounding words that are not necessarily spelled the same way. Soundex though is a one way procedure. Its a CODER The other part of the word Codec is derived from the word DECODER. Joining the two parts together we get the word CODEC...Codec. With regard to Codecs and any Video or Audio playing software. MP3 or WMA audio files have been compressed using CODER routines. When you play those files on your computer you are using the DECODER routines to produce a sound or video signal that can be seen/heard on your machine. With regard to Audio/Video editing software. A Codec is used to compress the data so that it occupies as small a space as possible usually on a hard drive. But in the case of editing a file the Codec must first expand the compressed data before the edit can occur and afterwards compress it again when the data is saved to a new file. The problems with Codecs arise from "Calls" A call is the expression used to define the way one software module talks to another so that information can be passed between the two. The problem occurs when the Call is not properly formatted, or the reply is not understood. This becomes a problem that the calling software must handle. When the calling software fails to handle the error it can do one of a number of things....the correct way is to contain the error and respond with an alternative approach and possibly inform the user that the error occurred, the other approach we are all to familiar with, either the software or the machine crashes and probably taking all of your hard work with it. 2) Movie Maker crashes, what can I do? ============================ From item one above there is a good chance that your problem arises from a problem with a Codec. Movie Maker version 2.1 was supposed to address this issue by giving you the user the ability to disable one or more of the Codecs on your machine. The problem however is not fully addressed and results in some Codecs not being exposed to the disable option. If its that particular Codec that is causing the problem you are stuck. You need to know which Codec it is, where it is, possibly what other software installed it and what other dependencies exist. In other words you need to know a LOT of things. The proper way of dealing with the issue would be to remove the offending Codec but that's not very practical as you may really need the other software that depends on it. There is a temporary solution available in the form of a program called "Rename Codecs" It has been in use for perhaps a year now by many hundreds of people and with great success. There have been a total of 6 times that the program did not solve the users problem (At the time of writing this) You can obtain your FREE copy of the program from www.the-kellys.org The basics of the program are that it will offer you the option of temporarily renaming Codecs that are known to be a problem for Movie Maker. You would do that before using Movie Maker. Once you are finished using the program you again run Movie Maker and use the RESTORE option to put those Codecs back into operation...its very easy to use. There is an additional option. You can use the options within XP to turn off the various levels of video acceleration that your graphics card has. Doing this is not a good idea but if you do you must understand that every program that relies on those abilities will either run badly or not at all. To turn the acceleration down right click your desktop and select PROPERTIES, then SETTINGS then ADVANCED and then TROUBLERSHOOT. You will then see a slider bar which should normally be positioned on the far right. You can move it one step at a time and then close the dialog down and re-try Movie Maker. You can repeat those steps until (and if) Movie Maker works properly. A lot of video programs give you the opportunity of taking a snap shot of the video displayed, Intervideo WinDVD 5 does a good job of this. Movie Maker also has this option. BUT, if you turn the acceleration down as above, you will no longer be able to take those snapshots. This is not a great problem of course as you can change the acceleration back. But it is rather tedious. 3) How do I make my system perform better and stop Movie Maker crashing ======================================================= This is by far the best way of doing things. Whilst the Rename Codec program is a MUST when you really do need to keep "other" software on your system, the following approach will ensure that your system runs at its best speed and will be less likely to crash at all from Video or Audio problems. You need to download the latest versions of DirectX and the Windows Codecs pack together with the latest version of Windows Media Player. You should NOT try to install these packages via the Internet, you should get the standalone versions. The reason is obvious once you know it. Suppose those updates you did some time back are not working properly...it may be that they were not installed properly or it may be that a file is either corrupt or simply missing. How would you know??? The more experienced may spot the problem but the average user will not. So why download the full package??? That's easy. When you unzip a package several checks are made to ensure the integrity of the files inside the zip. If there is a problem you will be told there and then...the file is corrupt or damaged in some other way....you do not need to trust an install over the Internet and the possibility of data being missed.... You can get the packages via these links... Codec Pack ----------------- http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/format/codecdownload.aspx DirectX ---------- http://go.microsoft.com/?LinkID=1081813 Windows Media Player --------------------------------- http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=b446ae53-3759-40cf-80d5-cde4bbe07999&displaylang=en Movie Maker for XP --------------------------- http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/protect/windowsxp/choose.aspx The link for Movie Maker is actually a link to SP2 (Service Pack 2). This a large download. Its not to bad if you have a reasonably fast broadband connection, but if the download fails its a long way back to the start!!! Personally I would recommend you obtain A CD version of SP2...its available on the Windows Magazine and from Microsoft directly Drivers for your graphics card ---------------------------------- I have discovered that most people are confused on the issue of drivers for their graphics card in that when advised to acquire the latest driver they go straight to the Microsoft website and get one from them. Their is a problem with that in that the drivers supplied by Microsoft are Generic. I made the mistake of going direct to Microsoft some time back and the result was that I could only run the machine in the basic "Safe Mode" the driver was the most up to date and was definitely more recent than the existing driver. It took some time to understand what was going on I must admit...... The graphics card was an NVidia GForce 4 etc and was manufactured by Gainward. After several attempts at getting the Microsoft driver to install I decided that the download MUST BE corrupted in some way, So I went to the NVidia website and downloaded their driver (Same version number as the one from Microsoft) I had the exact same problems!!! In the end I went to the Gainward website and downloaded the most up to date driver they had.....once installed the graphics card performed better than ever and with more configuration options than I would ever need. So why did an older driver work better than the most recent from NVidia ??? Its simple when you know why .... Gainward produce high capability cards and in order to achieve some of their aims they change the way the NVidia chipset works. This requires a modified driver....and they produce their own. The card is still based on the NVidia and conforms to the basic design....but it runs very much faster because of code optimisation, and that optimisation is missing from the Microsoft or NVidia drivers. The result of all this is that you should ALWAYS go to the website of the MANUFACTURER of the card and not the manufacturer of the chipset (in my case NVidia) The Method ----------------- Reboot your computer and install SP2. After the install has completed you should reboot your computer twice...yes boring but desirable After the reboot you should now install the DirectX pack and reboot again. After that reboot install the Codec Pack and reboot yet again. After that install Windows Media Player and reboot again Finally install the latest driver for your graphics card. Rebooting the machine does perform an important task. It completes installation process's and ensures that previously existing file locks are removed. Under certain conditions XP will not overwrite a file if it has been locked. Note that this is not the same as marking a file as Read Only. Windows XP Video Decoder Checkup Utility --------------------------------------------------------------- This utility can be obtained here... http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/portablemediacenter/decoder.mspx A very useful program but with a problem. It reports that I have the MGI MPEG-2 Video Decoder on one of my machines...I have NO MGI software on my system!! I would not let that put you off using it as it does have a useful purpose even though the same objective can be achieved via other already existing routes within XP. I am in favour of this program as it does give good advice on which Codec you should select as the preferred Codec 4) What files does Movie Maker NOT like? ============================== Any MPEG based file will cause Movie Maker problems even though they seldom cause problems for Media Player. There are a number of reasons...Media Player does not need the CODER part of the Codec and there are many methods/procedures/algothims used to Code an MPeg file and its that wide range of methods that Movie Maker can not address. Its not really a bug but the method of dealing with the issue, well there is no method...Movie Maker gives an error and crashes or it just crashes. The particular file extensions are Mpeg, MPG and MP3. JPeg still images can also be a problem and for similar reasons to MPeg files. There are a number of formats for a JPeg and it seems that the older formats are not properly dealt with. To work around the issue you can reduce the compression used in creating the JPeg and NOT use the progressive format method The best solution for these problems is to convert the file into a more acceptable format, and as it happens a format that is more easily worked on by Movie Maker...the conversion you should employ are MPeg, MPG convert to AVI, MP3 convert to WAV and JPeg, JPG convert to a standard bitmap BMP NOTES ====== There are several other approaches you can take to solving a Codec issue. I have seen several other methods of solving the problem, and basically they don't. Instead they treat the symptom and not the problem itself. Several other methods involve damaging the picture of your computers layout (that's a bad pun by the way) and simply doing that involves the risk of permanent damage to that picture. The program Rename Codecs also damages that picture of your system but it does at least provide a user friendly way of restoring your system and that method requires no prior knowledge on your part about where, which and how to make those changes. All efforts are made to ensure that the information is accurate. As no one is perfect I would be happy to hear of any errors found in this document (send an e-mail to webmaster@the-kellys.org). • Movie Maker Hang While editing, WMM hangs. In Task Manager, CPU is first at 100 %, WMM is slow, then WMM takes about 125 MB of memory and WMM is hangs. It's a 45 minutes video with many clips and it seems that it happens when I go to the storyboard or if I zoom in the timeline. I applied the FAQs of Papa John and John Kelly. I updated the video driver but it didn't solve the problem. Tag: I can play/rewind etc but not view Tag: 41002

        • Re: Fuzzy Still Pictures 1. I think you'll find that DV-AVI is also lossy and in actual fact you can get a much better quality using a WMV file when using a suitable profile. 3. I'm sorry to hear that you're staggered that we always assume an image has a 1:1 pixel aspect ratio. I'm not sure I follow the rest of your argument but all DV-AVI files coming from MovieMaker will have non-square pixels, whether they are NTSC or PAL, 4:3 or 16:9 Regards Dean Rowe Windows Movie Maker Team, Microsoft. -----Original Message----- From: John Kelly Posted At: Saturday, August 13, 2005 9:24 AM Posted To: microsoft.public.windowsxp.moviemaker Conversation: Fuzzy Still Pictures Subject: Re: Fuzzy Still Pictures Hello, On 13-Aug-2005, "Dean Rowe [MS]" <deanro@online.microsoft.com> wrote: > 1. Thank You for confirming that....you would certainly NOT want to take a WMV file and import it to a DVD authoring program and expect the same DV quality as you would get from a program that does not suffer from the poor performance of Movie Maker.. This because WMV is lossy and an immediate degrading of quality will result. > 3. Your concerns are valid. Yes, we always assume an image has a 1:1 pixel > aspect ratio, so whether you add a 640x480 image or a 720x480 image there > is going to be some resizing going on. The only way to get around this is > to render the image to a video file first, like I described in my blog > where you can use the Windows Media Encoder to encoder the image to a > 720x480 WMV file. Bingo !!!! As I have always maintained. Movie Maker makes a pigs ear out of the re-sampling process. And obviously the further away the source material is from the target size the bigger the problem...exactly what I have said from the very first time I commented on it. Its something that is so obvious it makes you wonder what agenda certain people have. You can look at many of my messages where the simple statement 640 x 480 DOES NOT EQUAL 720 x 480 occurs and as a consequence there will ALWAYS be a failure to map just one pixel onto one new pixel. and that the source material MUST be 720 x 480 or an integer multiple of that size. In fact if you go back far enough you can spot where REHAN started using that phrase copied from me (no problem) and as soon as hell fell out with me he dropped it...... It kind of trashes certain statements that 640 x 480 produces a better picture (which I have never accepted) by papajohn (who's analysis of many things has always been lacking) and by REHAN (WILL TRY HARDER NEXT TIME). I wonder if he will bother amending his website. I must say that whilst Media Encoder is acknowledged as being a better tool for certain aspects of video creation compared to Movie Maker, its one hell of a work around for a problem that should simply not exist in the first place. Your admission that Movie Maker can not take a 480 x 720 image and create a true 720 x 480 file is quite staggering. The admission that you always assume a 1:1 aspect ration kind of blows a hole through certain arguments. REHAN (WILL TRY HARDER NEXT TIME) insists that all DV quality video from MM has a non square aspect ratio...can we now assume he is going to withdraw those remarks and apologise???? It does after all make almost everything he has said (because he is forever insisting that its non square) it a load of Tosh. Mind you, it is also noted that this admission comes AFTER I publish some DV settings used in the real industry where clearly DV pixels can be square OR non square and still be DV-AVI. To summarise, You have admitted that MM will always resize an image, you further admit that its not so good because you advocate using Media Encoder to do the simple task and you confirm that the program always assumes SQUARE pixels Will we ever hear a retraction by REHAN or PAPAJOHN??? of course not, but I feel quite happy with what you have said as I am sure that you considered carefully your reply before posting it. • Using Movie Maker to capture clips off DVD? I used my DVD recorder to record off my analog video camera to make DVD home movies.. My computer will play the DVD, but Movie Maker will not reconize it as a device to capture movies. I want to make still pictures. Is there any way to get Movie Maker to capture clips off the DVD? If not, what product or procedure works best to do this? Any suggestions? Thanks for any help. Tag: I can play/rewind etc but not view Tag: 40993

        • Capturing from VCR I have read through what I could find here, and I couldn't find an answer to my situation. I do not have a DV camera to use as a pass thru. I did get MM2 working w/ my analog camcorder and was able to capture video from there fine. Now I have a few old VHS tapes I want to put on DVD. I connected the VCR using RCA cables (my VCR is apparently old as it doesn't have s-video connection) to my analog capture device which came with the computer. Now I am having an original problem where I captured the video, and after hitting "finish" the program just sits there and doesn't do anything. I was able to pass this problem before by trying some suggestions on papajohn's page. Now it's not working again. I am only doing trial runs and the clips are fairly short. (30-40 secs). I am ready to pull my hair out. thanks for any suggestions. I did go through the codecs but didn't have any of the normal problem causing ones. Help. Now SP2 is the greatest thing since 98SE, but there has to be something in the programing of SP2 that's conflicting with the operation of WMM2.1. • Plz Help, no audio first I had a problem with importing a clip from my camera (analog connected to my analog video capture device, which is the one that came with this computer, and is the hauppage) After solving that problem, and actually got to add clips into the timeline, I played them back and had no audio. cables were connected properly (used a s-video cable and for audio connected the white/red rca's to my card). I have looked at papajohn's site and can't really apply my problem. I read to go and check if the line in has been muted but I am not sure how to do this? I have pretty much looked through everything involving audio in my control panel, and nothing is muted. Cables work fine elsewhere. I am very frustrated with this. Any suggestions? • Complaint about the MVP REHAN: #20050815 Attention Mr. Eddy and Mr. Brown both of Microsoft I see you are still refusing to supply the contact details of your supervisors. Yes we all know about "Hell freezing over" don't we. I'm told you are happy to let me continue posting this message in the belief that I will eventually get fed up and go away. Let me ask you one question. At what point in the last couple of years have you seen me back down? I am happy to post this message until such time as you do the job you are paid to do without displaying your clear and obvious bias of the past. It makes no difference to me, but what will your VP have to say when I lay all of the facts in front of him in a nice neat and chronological order identifying things like a number of people with multiple identities...you know, the ones you are referring too in that insulting email you sent me. As I say, I am quite happy to do that, I don't have a position to defend. When discussing this messages with others one of them said it lacked respect, and yes it does lack respect. How could I respect someone so biased as either of you two. An MVP who wishes to remain anonymous (and from what I hear that's exactly what he should do) has pointed me to wards the below message. I fully expect you to do your usual NOTHING, but I rather thought that the rest of the world should witness your reaction. So here is the message... Re: John Kelly - The Thread of Doom! A flame war erupted where he met equal measures of blows and the drama ended with him humiliated and running away for a week.... Sorry but only a week... Will try harder next time :) The attacks he refers to were the ones where another MVP had to tell him I was correct and that he was WRONG. Equal Measures !!!....this guy is a scream...he should be on the stage....Will Try Harder Next Time ??? Hmmmmmmmmm Now then...the below message from Eddy. Greetings, I have received multiple complaints regarding personal attacks made by you in the microsoft.public.windowsxp.moviemaker newsgroup. After reviewing posts made by you, we believe that they are abusive and violate the Rules of Conduct for our newsgroups as listed at http://www.microsoft.com/communities/conduct/default.mspx. We would request that you refrain from using the Microsoft newsgroups for personal attacks. If you disagree with our assessment of your posts, or have any questions, you may contact us at usenet@microsoft.com or myself directly at johneddy@microsoft.com. John Eddy Microsoft Newsgroups Administrator This one tears me up..no seriously....the complainer TED BREWER was brought in as a special event to the newsgroup to post that complaint....but people with short memories will not realize that he posted one many weeks before where he also said I was being added to his kill file. Brewer would have ordinary users believe that he is a casual spectator (he is NOT a poster in any sense of the word as he only posts according to the needs of others) Now lets take a look at some of the other Numerous complainers you say you have received messages from.....Middleton = Parker = Prestonian...and as each of these identities have stirred up flame wars and as they are all the same person that leaves us with the thought that it was a concerted effort. We now have another "mvp" called Hughes who has joined forces with Parker and after all this time clearly identifies himself as one of the trouble makers it leaves you with a very diminished list of so called complainers and three prominent "mvp"'s who are not exactly what you wanted in that role. Yet you still encourage them, so it sheens. Why is that? Have you dug yourself so large a hole that you can no longer climb out. What future do you see for yourselves??? The attempts by a person using a woman's name (see other thread in moviemakers forum by woman claiming to be blocked. More on that below) and the person calling himself KDE to initiate additional arguments.....I was fore warned...SO SORRY FELLAS...you just cant trust anyone. The woman complaining she was blocked....well who/where would you run to in order to complain about being blocked from a website???....of course...go to the moviemaker forum and post a message titled "Who is John Kelly"......Pathetic fellas...really pathetic Rehan and his helpers from the MVPS.....it was suggested that I lay a trap, actually the idea was already in mind...So I post a message based on a TV advert in the UK. That advert stats that the human eye can actually see less than one million colours....what happens...REHAN digs out a 7 year old web page and quotes a section of that page out of context..he also added words that are NOT in the document....I forget and can't be bothered to check the exact wording but it was almost designed to make you think that the flame starter REHAN actually knew the Dr. in question he referred to him as being HIGHLY respected in this field etc A Comment clearly designed to start an argument .....and then another funny happens....one of the friends of the flame starter REHAN adds comments to the thread in this group about the number of bits and what they are used for in an image.......but SHE included her normal signature......go check and look for any time prior to this event for messages by this person???? Another clear attempt at starting a flame war...and by an MVP While talking about how wonderfull (NOT) your MVP's are...take a look at the message posted after my sig. Its a clear example of We have no reason to attack you other than the fact you are demonstrating what an idiot the mvp papajohn is...and if you stop telling people we will stop attacking you. I am never affected by threats no matter who makes them. ARE YOU GETTING THE PICTURE YET???? IS IT SINKING IN AT ALL ???? Well, I guess you both have "A" picture, you made rehan a Microsoft Valued Professional LOLOLOLOLOL While I am thinking along these lines, YOU mr eddy...and your vicious and nasty attack on me when I posted a message to a whole bunch of newsgroups by mistake...REMEMBER ???? Yes Mr. Eddy (Microsoft Newsgroups Administrator) I remember.....I continually referred you to the rules of Usenet and you repeatedly said you did not comply with those rules......lets just take a little look at your message above... Ah Yes...I can see usenet@microsoft.com....hold on a second...you said........ I won't bother adding any more to the above....I just want the public to see exactly how you deal with complaints when an MVP (papajohn) is caught out over his blatant lying...SIXTY THREE NEWSGROUPS being just one example LOL and what you do when a complete novice (rehan) tries to back up the LIAR Papajohn...you made him an MVP as well !!! LOLOLOL And you wonder why I turned down your offer to discus being an mvp myself further LOLOL A far as your e-mail goes mr eddy...I really could not give a hoot what you say think or do (because I can prove that papajohn is a LIAR)...as far as your "Review" goes....don't make me laugh...you are clearly highly biased and quite happy to steer a conversation in any direction that suits just you and those you protect.and having done a very quick check, I find that I am not alone when thinking this..... When that chap wished you would die, did you ban him from ever using a Microsoft Newsgroup??? What did you do when REHAN hoped that I would die soon?? • Digital Camera Video becomes jerky when added to MM2 Project I captured some video with my digital camera. The camera handbook calls it a motion JPEG 640 x 480 pixels at 30 frames per second. My computer captured it OK and stored it as an .AVI file. I can import into MM2 as a video "collection". Up to this point, it looks fine and runs very smoothly. But once I add the "collection" to my project it becomes noticeably jerky compared to the rest of the project which is normal camcorder footage, which remains smooth when it is added into a project. The digital camera movie is 128 kbps, whereas my camcorder movies seem to be 2060 kbps. I wonder if this is the reason for the loss of quality and if so, is there a work around? thanks Tag: I can play/rewind etc but not view Tag: 40949

        • 1024 x 576 Video Hello, I am uploading a file to my website that will give you an idea how important it is to use still images that are the correct size rather than the now known to be wrong advice of making your stills a silly size that is smaller than the target size of your video. I have extracted a bit of video from one of my recent DVD's. This particular clip is made from still images that were first cropped so as to conform to the ratio 16:9 and then re sampled so that their size was 1024 x 576 pixels (I'm working with PAL) They were then strung together in Nero and added to an existing project. The file I am uploading is rather large but OK for anyone on Broadband...I guess its going to be a while yet...you will know when its ready for download...a new page will appear from the main menu. The video file is in the MPeg format...converting it to AVI uncompressed resulted an a 12Gb file...It would have had to be an uncompressed format because any new compression would have detracted from what I wanted to show and that is, Quality, that thing you get when you do the job properly and not as recently described by another, ill-conceived method Anyone wanting too can discus it further in the Common Rooms at my web site, because I am not coming back here. I have seen REHAN (WILL TRY HARDER NEXT TIME) bite the dust and that was a real laugh, I have watched paperjohn tell proven lies one after the other about his abilities (and it would seem that he does not really have any) and I have seen those lies defended by almost all of the MVP's. You should all know as well that not all of the MVP's like paperjohn and a small but growing number of them have had a quiet laugh about REHAN (WILL TRY HARDER NEXT TIME) and I am NOT including Al Stu in any of these comments. They do not want to be identified, and I can not say I blame them. I have witnessed the blind bias exhibited by Mr Brown and Eddy (a letter is on the way by the way) Between us we have decided the only way the situation could be put right is if certain people were sacked...and of course that won't happen So Bye Bye PapaerJohn (LIAR) and REHAN (WILL TRY HARDER NEXT TIME) and Hughes (Who for some reason wanted me to know he was on Benefits...go figure) Reply and say anything you like, I won't mind a bit, I won't even know. Once I click the button(s) 'Load', 'Save', or 'Cancel', the file browsing box freezes on te screen, and the program crashes. This started happening once I went to SP2. I can make small movies with just credits just fine, and I cansave the movie files as well. I can open my old WMM project files and save movie files to my computer, but that's it. Everything else I try locks the program up. I've uninstalled the program, reinstalled it with the Windows Update version, along with the client install version, I've also went as far as uninstalling SP2 and reinstalling (after backing up my entire system of course). • FAQ: #20050814 Crashes & Hangs Movie Maker FAQ 1 Last updated 6th January 2005 Crashing and Hanging ================ 1) What is a Codec? If you have any doubts at all over following the advice given here you should NOT attempt it. The contents of this FAQ are liable to change with out prior notification. • Complaint about the MVP REHAN: #20050814 Attention Mr. (in one of his messages posted in here) Finally, you are blacklisted and neither you or Brown will be able to send further insulting emails. • How do you import Movie Maker files into Sonic MyDVD to burn to di I love Movie Maker for editing video and stringing together pics to make a slideshow set to music. I was disappointed after creating a project to realize you can't burn to disc - but instead need to use a third party software. At Microsoft's suggestion (on the website) I purchased MyDVD from Sonic to burn the project to disc. Unfortunately, when I try to add a file (formerly created in Movie Maker - .mswmm) MyDVD indicates that file type is not supported. I have read rave reviews about other users who make projects in Movie Maker then burn them to disc in MyDVD. Can anyone help? Microsoft and Sonic have let me down so far. Appreciate any tips! • For still pictures and music use Picture Story 3 I have recently been trying to make a slide show with still images and putting music to them...I tried to do it in WMM and it kept freezing up when I went to save to avi. Photo Story 3 is much better and easier to use than MM..so I would suggest using PS3 to make your slide shows. Tag: I can play/rewind etc but not view Tag: 40896

        • Photo Story 3.0 I have downloaded PS 3.0 several times. I have the same problem each time. Downloads ok. Open PS 3 software no problem. On Welcome page, click next, no problem. Click on Import Pictures, no problem. Then, the File Browser come up and it is frozen. Nothing will work. I had PS 2 and it worked great. What is going on? • Re: Fuzzy Still Pictures 1. Yes that's correct. If you're targeting a higher resolution flat panel then I would use WMV 2. The filter is applied before the DV-AVI encoder. 3. Your concerns are valid. Yes, we always assume an image has a 1:1 pixel aspect ratio, so whether you add a 640x480 image or a 720x480 image there is going to be some resizing going on. The only way to get around this is to render the image to a video file first, like I described in my blog where you can use the Windows Media Encoder to encoder the image to a 720x480 WMV file. Regards Dean. -----Original Message----- From: Rehan Posted At: Friday, August 12, 2005 7:22 PM Posted To: microsoft.public.windowsxp.moviemaker Conversation: Fuzzy Still Pictures Subject: Re: Fuzzy Still Pictures Hi Dean A few questions: 1. As Papajohn asked, does this confirm that DV AVI is a poorer choice for flat panel TVs (than WMVs)? 2. Is the filter applied before the encoder (for DV AVI) kicks in or is it done during the encoding? 3. Can you also confirm (or deny) my concerns for quality loss arising purely because of non-square pixel encoding (i.e. even if the filter is removed). As I asked on your blog post, I suspect that due to non-square pixel resampling step required to fit a 4:3 picture into 720x480 frame, the picture quality will always be less than what is possible for 1-to-1 mapping achievable when rendering to a 640x480 frame. • FAQ: #20050813 Crashes & Hangs Movie Maker FAQ 1 Last updated 6th January 2005 Crashing and Hanging ================ 1) What is a Codec? I am in favour of this program as it does give good advice
