    - Rename Codecs Version 1.5 Hi there, Owing to a couple of non related (to the program above) problems the release of version 1.5 has been delayed. I will still put it up for download, probably tomorrow now. The new version 2.0 release has also been delayed but should be available before the end of the month. In the meantime, here is the new write-up for the current program. ================================================= Your one-stop-don't-need-to-look-anywhere-else Solution is with a program called "Rename Codecs". Instead of reading miles of dross that is full of maybe's and perhaps's just run the program, it takes a few moments to identify all of the known codecs that cause this problem and gives you the opportunity of renaming them. You can then run Movie Maker and immediately determine if it actually was a codec issue. If it was a codec issue Movie Maker will now run properly. If it was not the issue, you have lost nothing more than a short amount of time. Whether or not it was a codec issue you must run the program once more and restore the problem codecs to their original names. The two procedures together can take less time than it did to read this message and a whole lot less than reading mountains of bumph that may or may not apply to you. The program "Rename Codecs" is free and available from my website. While there it would be a good idea to check out the tutorial on how to run the program...that will take around one minute of your time!!!     - VCD easy works Well Hi, I used WMM2 for the first time this last week and made mothers day gifts for my mother and my wifes mother. Worked pretty well except when it came time to burn. I used nero at first and it had all sorts of problems with drivers messing with each other. I downloaded VCD Easy and it took care of those pretty well and burned them without any problems. I used FX Video conveter and it was pretty easy to use too. My question is there a way to get a menu on a VCD like in a DVD start up? Do I need to use Nero or some other software to do this?     - PC to Camcorder choppy video I have edited some video in MM2 and have tried to send it back to the camcorder tape. The resulting video is a choppy mess with alot of blue screen. I know the answer is to reduce the amount of resources my PC is using. I have done this successfully in the past by following the steps laid out. The problem is I have lost this procedure and can't remember where I found it. I got the answer from this newsgroup about a year ago but the posts don't go back that far.     - MM2 Upgrade I just received my upgrade XP disc from Microsoft to upgrade to Movie Maker2 and Windows Media 9, I currently had Movie Maker. My question is that when I go into MM, it seems to be the old version. I am trying to save a project to an .avi format, I am under the impression that MM2 will do this, where the old version did not.     - Strange behaviour on dv-avi files I report here something strange I have noticed with MM2. My input file is a 5 min long standard dv-avi file created with another editing program (MovieXOne). The file is inserted in the MM2 time line. When rendered as is to dv-avi, it takes about 3 minutes to render and the quality of the output file seems perfectly unchanged as compared with the original. But if a simple fade out to black effect is applied (it should only affect the last seconds of the video), the rendering takes about 20 minutes and the quality of the output file is clearly affected during the entire movie (a sort of "grid" of pixellisation appears slighlty but clearly on the entire movie). The workaround I had to apply is to cut the movie into two pieces: a big one of 5min-3 sec. and a small one of 3 seconds on wich the fade out is applied. Some ideas about that strange problem?     - MovieMaker hangs when importing video from Sony DCRHC30 I am trying to import video from my new Sony DCRHC30 digicam. The import seems to work okay (I see the images in the preview window, etc...) but then the app hangs after the dialog entitled "capturing video" appears. The "time" bar goes all the way to 100% and the timer counts down to 0 time remaining and then ... nothing. It doesn't take the whole PC down with it (which is good), but I need to use Task Manager to quit the app. Any thoughts out there?     - Unstable Movie Maker 2 Hello We are using Movie Maker on about 20 computers at our University to edit Video. It seems though that we will have to change over to another program. Movie Maker turned out to be extremely unstable. Especially during the capturing process the program and even the computer would restart without any warning.     - Burning movie project to a DVD I'm new to Windows Movie Maker, so please bear with me. I've downloaded digital video from my Sony video camera to Windows Movie Maker, saved as "High quality video (large)" so I could burn it to a DVD for playback on a DVD player. My PC's OS is Windows XP. I've edited and added a soundtrack and am ready to burn it to a DVD. I have a Sony DRU-530A external DVD burner. Movie Maker has saved my project with the *.MSWMM file extension, I saw no other options, and I do not see an option in Movie Maker to save my project to a DVD. When I attempt to use the Sonic "MyDVD" software (version 5.2.1) that came with the DVD burner it will begin to encode, but will then give the following error message: One or more files could not be imported: MyDVD does not support this file type. Check the user guide for details on support files." It appears that MyDVD does not recognize the *.MSWMM extension. I am trying to save a 12 minute project (made with movie maker) to my computer. When I click on "save to my computer", it saves it, but...when I play it , it has saved most of the pictures, but then it just stops showing the pictures but the music continues to play. Have any of you had this problem? Any suggestions, I need to burn it on a disk to play on a DVD player.
