    - Import analog vid via Sony DV cam Analog video I am trying to import analog video through my Sony TRV-22 DV cam. Other Video capture programs allow me to do this, just capture the incoming video stream. When I try to use MM2, I keep getting the No Tape in DV cam when I try to record/ import to computer.     - mix-up movies I'm trying to use the Movie Maker with a lap-top. Not easy! I have to make short films and I had hoped I could record part one, then part 2 and so on. And combine them into one long movie. Not! The computer decided to put the last film I recorded 1st, the 1st film I recorded last and so one. Is there anyway when I record my short films to put them in order when recording? Also how can I get more Virtual Memory. When I try to record anything over 40mg the computer says it trying to up the memory. When the computer does this, is it actually trying to find more memory or is it just a bubble sign? Worthless?     - Title and Credits do not appear-just a gray screen Recently I installed MM 2 to my new Dell computer. Movie maker seems to be operating almost normally. When I try to create titles, all I get is a gray screen in the place where I should be seeing titles and credits scrolling. I've tried to re-install MM, but I still have the same problem.     - How do I change Audio Bitrate? In order to get my sound working well with Movie Maker 2 until Microsofts releases a fix on this issue(assuming that they will), I saw a post somewhere on how to change the audio bitrate on my .avi files to be more friendly with WMM2 I believe using virtual dub or some other freeware like that, however after searching all day I can't seem to find that post.     - Help!!! I have created and edited movie to send back and record to DV camera. Steps worked first time. But NO movie just blue screen and "Quick,short breaks of movie." Saved movie.     - Sound Is terrible, How can I fix? I captured video from my Panasonic Mini DV using DvRaptor by canopus which saves them as .AVI files. When I import these into Windows Movie Maker 2 they play just fine, but when I drag them to the timeline of Windows Movie Maker 2 the sound from the videos become scratchy and metalic sounding. I wondered if this was just an issue on my PC so I decided to try importing .AVI files on the computer at my work that also has Windows Movie Maker 2 on it and I found that I had the same problem on that computer, so I am assuming that this could be a known issue.     - final creation and the big freeze hi, right now i am in Bagram, Afghanistan, and i just finihed months of work making a movie. Here is the problem. When i got to save the final product, to the computer or CD, it goes on fine, but when i go to watch the thing, somewhere in the movie the audio will continue as normal, but the Video freezes. I took a look at the size and it does not seem the size is right. only about 62MB out of 477Mb. Can anyone tell me what might be happening. Why it is not recording the rest of my video?     - How to move title overlays When you add a title, moviemaker does not appear to have any way to position it on the clip. We need to know how to move it. For example, we want to add a student's name to his picture and have his name running right through the middle of his face. You are able to align it horizontally but nothing vertically.     - Problem in Using PC as PVR--start timer?? I recently decided that rather than keep accumulating more VHS tapes, that now when I wanted to record something from TV, I would do it to my computer. From there I can keep programs stored on a large external hard drive, can burn the programs to VCD. (I don't currently have a DVD-burner, may add that in the future), and can also compress them to a format to watch on my Pocket PC. I purchased a USB analog video capture card (my computer is a notebook, running Windows XP), and a large (180 GB) external firewire hard drive. I have various software that can be used to capture video, including some that came with various devices, including the video capture device, some shareware and freeware, and Windows Moviemaker. So---if I'm home when the program starts that I want to record, I can do that. Most of these programs have timers that will automatically stop recording after a specified period of time, two hours or whatever. So, I can set the timer for how long the program is, start recording when the program starts, and it will stop recording automatically. The feature I haven't seen is--a timer to start the recording at a particular clock time. Last night I wanted to record a television program that began at 9 PM. I wasn't going to be home at that time, however. So, I wanted to set a timer that would begin the video capture automatically at 9 PM. I opened every single program I had that could capture video, including Windows Moviemaker, MovieStar, Movie Shop, Cyberlink Power Director Pro, DVD Complete, Arcsoft VideoImpression, Virtualdub, and others. In all of them I searched for a way to set a timer to start capturing at a particular time. I searched the menus, the capture dialog boxes, and the help files as well. I couldn't find that capability in any of them. That surprised me, as it seems a pretty basic feature in a program that captures video, that a person might want to capture a television program when one is not at home, as one does with a VCR, that there would be a timer to specify at which clock time to begin recording. Very surprised not to find that feature in any program. Did I miss something? Is there a way to do that with those programs (or some of them)? Are there any other video capture programs that do have such a start timer capability? (In case anyone is interested, I really wanted to record that program, so I found an empty VHS tape, and recorded it the old way, with the VCR. If I want to I could now capture the VHS tape to digital format. However, for that desired result, it would be much simpler, quicker, and probably create better quality results, to capture directly from the program to the digital format.)     - Chapter points I captured and edited a video from my digital camcorder into Windows Movie Maker. In Movie Maker, I created several clips with transition points in between. I added title pages in between each clip (actually as clips I guiess) with transitions between each clip. Then I went into MyDVD and created a menu for each clip (so each menu included one clip with title and transition). On some sections, the video does not flow from one menu (clip) to the next. It stops and I have to press menu on by DVD player and move to the next menu. And then on some when it gets to the end of the clip/menu, it goes on to the next. So, how do I make it flow from menu to menu AND how can I make each clip act more like a chapter point so if I press my forward arrow on my DVD player, it will go to the next clip automatically.     - Titles and Transitions show just gray box Hi, I've seen some discussion on this...but no specific answer. Since buying a Dell and installing MM2, the titles and transitions no longer display(worked on my previous PC). Instead, there is just a gray screen.     - 1394 + Moviemaker I have Windows XP SP1, 40GB, 128RAM, 1.1Ghz PIII. I bought IEEE1394 PCI card from Trust Softwares. I have a Sony Digital Camcorder PC110. The OS has successfully installed the drivers and says working properly. But in the movie maker or AMCAP doesn't detect the device. Trust and Sony says the drivers are available for 1394 with the OS. I have uninstalled the OHCI driver manytimes and OS has installed the drivers again. I read the article 'Capturing Video from Digitalsources' by Galan Bridgman. I know there is additional software which will burn to a DVD, but I rather like the one-stop-shop of iTunes and didn't know if Microsoft was going to up the ante.     - output in DV-AVI (jerk or skip problem) I export my project with MM2 in DV-AVI then I create DVD after image quality is good but somes regular jerk or skip appears ! Hi, I have a Sony DVD camera, after i have edited on movie maker 2 and record back to my video camera the picture is jerky immediately after titles and transitions are applied for a minute or two.     - MM2 not longer crashing! XP Home bad. XP Pro good! Hi, I was having all kinds of issues with MM2 so I decided to start over. I reformatted my drive and reinstalled XP Home. I installed MM2 and poof! Crash after crash after crash. I then installed XP Professional. MM2 hasn't crashed once!     - Moving MM2 to MyDVD? any suggestions on a good setting to use to save a file that will burn a DVD using MyDVD. Loaded 2 hours of a wrestling season into MM2. Edited it, was very happy. At MS suggestion I purchased MyDVD Plus4 to burn the file to DVD. Sonic indicated I had to save as DV-AVI(NTSC)file. That process took just over 2 hours to save and my orginal MM2 file of 9.64MB grew to 29+GB. Previews very nicely on MyDVD however, won't burn to a DVD due to the size of the file. Sonic says their program supports any MPEG file but offered no suggestion other than the one mentioned.     - Sample Video/Audio Clips Needed My website www.papajohn.org has its roots in problems, the negatively flavored stuff. But the tide has been changing from problem-solving to editing and distributing movies. And I'm changing the website with it. Tides change slowly, so don't look for major changes too quickly. The site is mostly full of text, with some links to other websites and online video clips. But, mostly text. I've already expanded the menu of the Editing section to get ready for this. It's the first section to have sub-sections. There will be much more in the way of graphics on the pages, and many more links to online pictures, video snippets and audio snippets too. We talk a lot about issues. Take one like a 'metallic high pitched' sound. I'd like a link to a snippet so people can hear what we're writing about. You can see the Video.. Effects page for a few examples of what I'd like to do. Describing an effect in text is fine, but a link to a 5 to 10 second video snippet that illustrates the effect might be a bigger value. I'm looking for donations - a clip showing an effect or transition - or text effect, a metallic problem sound (I can't find one in my library), or whatever helps illustrate an item or issue. If it's an online clip or sound file, maybe a link is sufficient. If you don't want to have people copy the snippet, just add some text over it so they wouldn't want to. The site just passed its 6 month anniversary, so it's a good time to make this shift.     - Jerky MPEG's in Editing Hi All- I have noticed that when I place mpeg clips together in the storyboard, they freeze when I play them back for a brief second at the beginning. I have tried so many things but still get that jerkiness to the video. I am running a 2.0 GHz 256RDRAM, NVIDA (with latest drivers) video card. I have an ADS Instant DVD 2.0 Analog Capture device.     - Video Capture fails after upgrade to MM2. I have just upgraded my Movie Maker to version 2 from www.microsoft.com/downloads and now when I try to capture video it says my video capture device is in use. It isnt as other video capture software works fine. I'm using an MSI 64MB Dual head Graphics card with TV input. It worked fine with Movie Maker 1 (the basic version you get when you install XP). Does MM2 only output WMV and AVI files? I have a large MPG file I edited
and want to re-write to an MPG file but can't seem to find that option in
MM2. Do I need to buy a real video editing package?

You need to convert the output WMV or DV-AVI file to MPEG using other
software. The Saving Movies, Distributing, CD and DVD Burning sections of
www.papajohn.org covers many of your options.

Yes.

You'll have to output to AVI (if possible) and then convert to MPEG

Yes, you need a third-party package; WMM2 does not support MPEG. See
