You guys are gonna get tired of seeing me here (grin)
I tired using AVS convertor to covert files recorded fromDVD/VCR recorder
into a file format that WMM will accept (seemed to be an eaier program to for
a beginer). First tried it as AVI and the audio was way way out of sync with
the video, and the video quality was very poor (distorted, broke up into
pixels, etc). This was an hour long file that I tried. Then I went in with a
20 minute reording that I had taken from tv and converted to WMV. That
appears to have gone well, looked good sounded good, synced up good. WHen I
went back to WMV with the initial DVD, the results were the same as before
though with the loss of quality. ANy thoughts on whats going wrong?

Hello,

Are the files you are talking about on a DVD disk that your recorder has
put there? Are they DVD-VR ??

If yes then all you need is Nero 6 (latest release is 6.6) Using NeroVision
Express you do what one of my machines is doing this very moment...you
import the contents of the DVD-VR to your hard drive. (I'm just importing
the film 300 Spartans)

Once you have the imported files you can edit them with Nero in which case
there is no loss of quality or you can export in any of the many formats
that Nero supports (One of the lower formats is DV-AVI type 1 or 2) and
import that file into your favourite editor.

You can get the latest trial version from www.nero.com it lasts for 30
days. For myself I would not be without it nowadays
