    - **WMM FORMAT** Finally at last. . .a breakthrough. I would like to thank everyone for their input. I got most of all my needed information from other people's post's. Thank you guys so much too! Guess i got lucky and ended up on a Ulead site and downloaded Ulead videostudio 9. WAA-LAA! I am the proud owner of 2, 1 hour plus videos burned to DVD disc that worked on both my home players. My process was importing all my footage into WMM. . .edited into a movie. . .saved to my hard drive, via high quality(large)video format. . .picked up finished movie project by Uleads videostudio 9 for final edit and burn. "whew" Exhausting, but i am way stoked man! Now if i can get some input on how to manipulate the burning process to where it doesnt take to long. Both of my projects combined took like 18 hours to burn. Did i hear by lowering the bit rate or something like that? Do you lose quality?     - Trying to locate saved Credits I have worked on a project and added credits at the end. This took me a lot of time as the credits were many and I was very pleased with the results. I have a lot of similar projects and would like to locate this particular project (cannot remember its name) so I could use (or copy) the same credits again without having to re-create the whole lot.     - Line In Doesn't Appear Anymore I used WMM for months, sending audio through line in and saving it as a wma file. I even wrote myself a word document listing the steps I needed to take to do the recording. Now when I start it up and try to record (via the narration recording feature) it doesn't list line in as a recording option on the appropriate sound device. I have no doubt I'm doing the recording process same as I always did with all the same choices made along the way.     - I have a mess on my hands 2 The Continue saga with my mess. I went back to my movie removed video effects and some transitions. This seems to help the video or sound from freezing to some degree. I found that if I delete the clip where the problem occurs and then place it back from the video clips on my collections that the problem stops. Can anyone tell me why this would be so?     - File size I'm really confused on how to put a movie up on the web so that someone can link and open. I have a movie that is just over 3 minutes long. Saving it to Video for broadband at 540 kps results in a .wmv file of 12,812 kb. I've tried to upload this to my Earthlink host several times, and it just won't upload. The only think I can think of is that the file's too big. Are there suggested file sizes for .wmv's? How do I extract audio from a video clip, for use elsewhere in my movie?     - WMM hangs after X MB usage Why will MovieMaker just hang indefenitely after capturing approx 25 images (<20Mb), or after approx 10 minutes? I already divide my albums into portions of no more than 25 foto's; frequently less. When I use WMM I save every 2 images in order not to lose work. And even then, WMM will just stop responding after -let's say- 5 minutes of work. Only remedy is abort job via task manager and start all over. I use XP HE SP2, 512MB ram (usage 250-330Mb though) AMD 1800Mhz processor. So specs are OK, program is not.     - Freezing at 99% I am using Windows Movie maker for school projects and i am having a hard time imorting files from Sony Picture Pacakge to Windows Movie Maker. Please bear with me as I have no idea what I am doing yet...I am trying to import several different video projects into Windows Movie Maker (to make a reel out of finished videos) and each one I try has got no file to choose when the import file box pops up. When i want to save a movie on my computer, or a CD, it goes well to about 30% and then the proceed gets much faster.     - Can't find temp file to clear hard drive space I changed the temp file location and while I was capturing video from my camcorder, there was a glitch with the tape, so I did not save the resultant file when I was prompted to.     - un-smooth flow in final movie? Papajohn help? This may be an extension from my 3/3/06 post. I've created a 18GB DH-AVI file from PS3 and WMM. The clip runs smoothly and looks great. I want to make the best possible, univerally operating DVD with menu and chapters. Seeing many mentions of Tsunami encoder software I ended up buying their Easy Pack containing authoring software. I've converted the original DH-AVI file to MPEG-1 (4.2GM in size) with encoder, added the menu, etc., in thier Author prgm, but the resultant DVD, after burnng 4 different copies with slight modifications, always ends up running jerky in movement as though it misses the smooth tracking of the original DH-AVI file. Question: 1. Is this symtematic of mpeg-1files? Note: When I play the mpeg file it appears not as smooth as the DH-AVI file but certainly acceptable. 2. Should I expect better from my authoring software; has anyone heard negative feedback from that offerred by Tsunami in this regard? 3. If anyone is familiar with the Tsunami Authoring software could you please suggest website material where this type of problem solving may be found. Please don't suggest their website as I find it next to useless. 4. Should I be looking into software that handles the MPEG-2 formatting and burn my DVD from that? Thanks.     - Pictures cropped when movie saved to mini DV When I transfer my movie to my mini DV using the fire wire, many of the still pictures in the movie have the edges cropped off (with necessary text). When I save to my computer, these same pictures are not cropped and appear normal. I'm using a Panasonic PV-GS31 mini DV camera. i've tried changing the aspect ratio from 4:3 to 16:4, but the pictures are distorted, so that doesnt' help me with the cropping problem.     - A mess on my Hands I have used the windos movie maker in the past 4 months without much problems. One week ago while working on a Movie project the program began to do some odd irritating things. It is sluggish,Freezes up. While working on the story board and trying to switch back to the music or credit area it stops and sometimes the entire screen will white out and freeze the computer. It seems that every step takes long time. When the video, video sound and music are playing the video may stop but the music keeps going or visa versa.Other time the vido continues but all sound stops briefly and picks up again. The only portion that seems to work without me going crazy are the title/ credits. I have checked for bugs,Defragmented my disc, Re set my computer . Memory or hard drive is not an issue. All other computer programs are running fine. It is the MOvie Maker that is not. I have totally lost collections that I had. The only new piece of hardware recently added was a infrared mouse.     - Dumping Temporary Video Files with WMM I just discovered that if you cancel a video exporting project, while you are in the process of sending a captured video file back out to tape, that the duplicate temporary video file that WMM puts on your HDD will not be automatically erased. It will just sit there and use up a huge chunk of HDD space. This duplicate temporary file that WMM uses, is the same size as the original and does not show on the same folder. While the exporting procedure is under way or after it is canceled in progress, twice as much space is occupied on your HDD. The temporary file is placed in an ordinarily hidden folder that you won't see, unless you know how and where to look. With some good advice and experimentation, I worked out a way to locate and delete this temporary file. First, you have to set your system to show hidden folders. Go to My Computer and click on Tools at the top of the page. Then, click on Folder Options. Go to View and then look down for the checkbox that will keep hidden folders from view. Uncheck this box, unless it is already in that positiion. Then, back on the main My Computer page, click on the logo for your harddrive, which may be shown as Local Disk (C). Then go up to Documents and Settings, then to Owner, then to Local Settings and finally, to Temp. In the Temp folder will be numerous little boxes that represent changes to your temporary files. Among these will be the ones that hold the temporary video files from WMM. If you move your cursor over them, the date and time they were modified and the file size will be revealed. Two different sets of information are shown, one when the cursor is on the bottom and another when it is on the middle of a box. A video file will be quite large, using about 12.8Gb per hour of DV. My temporary video files were in the top row, but they could be farther down. When you find one you want to dump, after the cursor highlights it in dark blue, go to the upper left side and click on Delete This File and click on any follow-up pop-up boxes to confirm your intent. You can then check on the Local Disk (C) logo, which shows available capacity, to see if space has been restored. I don't know why WMM has to store these temporary files and spend what appears to be about 95 minutes of rendering per hour of DV, in order to be able to export a video file. Other video editing programs I have, can export video files directly, in real time, without putting a temporary duplicate file on the HDD. Even the video files I captured using WMM can be instantly exported with my two other video editing programs. There seems no way to avoid this long delay, before WMM can start exporting to a DV camcorder. There seems to be nothing on the WMM manual about the problem caused when you cancel an exporting procedure when it's in progress.     - cannot capture video Movie maker will no longer capture my video. I have a Dell 4550 with windows XP and a capture card that came with the package and was able to capture in the past. If your trying to make DVD's why are you using the "Save to CD" option?
This option will not make a CD or DVD that is playable in a home DVD player
plus it won't work if you actually have a DVD in the drive.
If you don't have the "Save to DVD" option, and it doesn't sound like you
do, then you need to save it to your computer and then import it into a DVD
Authoring program such as those listed in the "DVD Creation" portion of my
website.
