        • Video8 to disk, what quality is required? Hello again! So today I had a play with Adobe Premier Pro, heck that was complicated and as I speak it is still rendering prior to writing to DVD. I also played with MM2 and liked it, does all I want so that is most likely the path I will take. However my original plan was to copy my Video8 tapes to DVD but I read somewhere that CD would be ok? I suppose what I am after here is to maintain the original quality of the video8 tapes what codec/format do I need without going overboard? Regards, Paul Tag: movie Tag: 25174

        • MM2 Stereo to Mono? Hi, Having transferred a Video8 tape from a mono Samsung camcorder to my PC via a Canon DV camcorder I have the situation where the audio is effectively stereo but with only one track! Is there anyway I can convert this to mono or duplicate the track on the other channel so it will play through both speakers on a TV etc? Regards, Paul Tag: movie Tag: 25163

        • Slow Motion Hi, Most of the time (but not always) when I add a "slowmotion" to a clip, not only that clip but also all following clips are in slowmotion. The video-timeline looks ok, but plays completely wrong after showing the "slowmotion" clip becaus all following clips are played (but not marked) in slowmotion too. I assume its a error that everone has, but is there also a workaround or even better, a fix? Tag: movie Tag: 25160

        • compressed audio with avi file Hi, I just started messing around with WMM today and have run into a snag with the audio. I have checked the message board and have not seen this question yet. If it has been anwered, please let me know where. If not, hopefully somebody can answer it. I have been compiling several stills and movie clips from my digital camera. The video clips are in avi format and play just fine in WMP and any other media player. Obviously the audio and video quality is lower than a digital camcorder but it's not bad. However, when I import the avi files into WMM the audio sounds really compressed. I have hunted around in the options to see if there is anywhere to change the bit rate but I can't find anything. My temporary solution has been opening the avi file in Nero Vision Express 2 and then export the avi file to another DV avi file. Then, when I import the new avi file into WMM the audio sounds just fine. I'm okay going through this lengthy process if there is no other solution but I thought I would throw it out to the message board and see if I could get any help. Thanks in advance. • CD not recognised or will not record Hello, In recent times several Movie Maker users have discovered that there CD ROM is no longer capable of burning a CD. Microsoft acknowledge that this can happen and give advice on how to rectify it. Some users not familiar with the system registry or unwilling to edit it themselves have understandably requested an alternative method for solving this problem. There is now a solution for this specific problem available as a download from my website. Its called "Fix-It" The program itself is a frame work intended to hold any future fixes that become available. The programs "Rename Codecs" & "Delete Dross" will not be merged with Fix-It, this because Fix-It is intended to be used once after which it should not be needed again. Fix-It does not have a installer program because it does not need one. The program is completely self contained and can be run from any location and that includes running it over the internet. -- Best Wishes.....John Kelly www.the-kellys.org www.the-kellys.co.uk \|||/ (o o) ----------ooO-(_)-Ooo------------- All material gained from other sources is duly acknowledged. • Firewire Chipset Suspect: Sound Blaster Audigy NG Question: I don't know, is it ok to repost from another forum? Anyway, my SB Audigy 2 firewire turns into a meatgrinder during reverse video transfers. The problem may lead back to IRQ settings, sharing and conflict. Microsoft is working on it. Also, the problem may be the chip set of the Firewire. The following is a repost with a link back to the forum for the curious: The tread is a good conversation about the woes of Firewire. **************************************** Camcorderinfo.com Message Board > JVC > JVC MiniDV Users Group JVC GRD33U Firewire problems http://www.camcorderinfo.com/bbs/showthread.php?p=95202#post95202 After weeks of trying to figure out why I couldn't transfer/capture my DV video to the PC I've finally figured it out. The computer would recognize the camcorder and I could control it (play, rw, ff, stop, etc..) but the preview window would be blank and would not transfer using a number of different software. The basic problem is the IEEE1394 port on the JVC miniDV camcorders are designed to work with the TI chipset built into the IEEE1394 PCI capture cards. Once I installed a card with the TI chip-set the problem was solved. The card I used was the adaptec fireconnect 4300 which does in fact have the TI chip-set. ***************************************** Does anyone else have information on Firewire and chipsets Tag: movie Tag: 25142

        • Pictures turn blurry in full screen When insert pictures in Movie Maker and play in full screen it makes the pictures blurry. Something has changed because it didn't do this with previous releases. The pictures are from a high end digital camera (6.3 megapixels) so when view full screen through the Windows picture viewer they are not blurry. I am not sure what version started to cause the blurry pictures but something is different. It now makes Movier Maker useless for my picture movies. Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Tag: movie Tag: 25136

        • Windows Movie Maker 2.1 incompatibilty issue with ATI Radeon cards Hello, Since I installed Windows XP Service Pack 2 and thus also Windows Movie Maker v2.1, I don't seem to be able to use some of the transitions included by default as well as some of the titling/crediting animations. In case of the transitions, when I select the transition and use the preview function, it just skips the animation and directly jumps to the end result image. Applying the transitions and generating the movie shows the same thing, so it's not just restricted to the preview function. In case of the titling animations, some just don't show anything in the preview pane. Others result in extremely long animations that don't quite do their trick. Adding a title or credit and generating the movie results in the same. I thought reinstalling Windows XP from scratch, then immediately installing service pack 2 would solve the problem. It didn't. So it can't be a misconfigration thing. I even used the included graphics card drivers provided and digitally signed by Microsoft. No 3rd party software or drivers had been installed. Just Windows XP Professional plain vanilla and Service Pack 2. To document things a bit further, I'll add the names of the transitions and titling mechanisms that don't work: Transitions: - Shatter, In - Shatter, Up Left Titles and Credits: (one line) - Typewriter (30s for the word "test") - Ticker Tape - News Banner - Scroll Perspective (nothing and it's 3'15" for the word "test") - Zoom, Out (Show something, but doesn't get to the complete word in the end) - Spin, Out (Same as above) - News Video, Inset (show animation, but no text at all) - Fade, Slow Zoom (show an exaggerated portion of the letter 'e') - Zoom, Up and In - Stretch (only gets to 'es' of the word "test") - Subtitle - Video, In Text - Wow ! (Show animation, no text) - Mirror - Scroll, Banner - Scroll, Inverted (goes from blue to white, but no text) - Paint Drip (two lines) - Fade, In and Out - Fly In, Fades - Fly Out - Fly In, Fly Out - Exploding Outline - Fly In, Left and Right - Sports Scoreboard (goes blue to red, then red to blue, no text) - Newspaper (seems to love black all around) (credits) - Scroll, Up Stacked (1'56"20 length indicated, all black, skips immediately to the end, no text) - Zoom, In (shows a part of "e" and "s") - Scroll, Up Side-by-Side (same as the previous 'scroll' animation) - Mirror (same as the 'scroll', but the indicated length is 25'26"25) - Exploding (shows text, but length is too long 1'37"75) - Fly In, Left and Right (same as the 'scroll" animation) - Video Left (same as the 'scroll" animation) - Video Top (same as the 'scroll" animation) On a slighter note: the Automovie feature only seems to generate transitions 'here and there' and messes up the sequence of the slides (pictures) at the end: some of the pictures are listed twice in the sequence there. I have tried this stuff on 3 different graphics cards: a Hercules 3D Prophet 9600 Pro 128Mb AGP card and a PowerColor Radeon 7000 64Mb PCI card. Same result. Insert a GeForce card: voilà, no problem at all... :( So, as to get back to my question: Has anyone of you experienced the same or apparently related difficulties ? And more importantly: Does anyone have the slightest clue in to resolving this issue ? (without me having to buy a different graphics card of course :) Some more HW details: MB: Asus P4P800 (Bios v1.16) Mem: 2x512 Mb DDR400 CPU: Intel PIV 3,0 Ghz GPU: ATI Radeon 9600 Pro 128Mb (tried different sorts of drivers btw, incl the Omega's) Soundcard: Creative Audigy Player (latest drivers) Thanks in advance ! • Capturing Hi8 tapes to .avi via D8 camera -- MM won't create clips I want to edit .avi but MM wont create clips - it will though if I save to .wmv Guess the reason is that MM expects a stream from a digital camera to contain signals marking begining & end of each recorded segment -- but these are not available from the Hi8 tape. Shouldn't it however detect scene change? Is there any solution or work around? Thanks -- RogerM Tag: movie Tag: 25127

        • Cannot Save Message Like others, I can no longer save anything in WMM since upgrading to SP2 and WMM 2.1. When I get to the "save movie file" step, and select DV-AVI, the program hangs for about 10 seconds and then the cannot savewizard pops up. I have tried all the steps in PapaJohn's pages on the subject, checked and unchecked the filters shown on the Compatibility page, downloaded all driver updates, and still cannot find a solution. Before SP2 and WMM 2.1, I was able to save everything fine. I have a Dell, Pentium 4 2.4 Gig, 512 MB RAMso I feel capacity is not the problem. Will have to go to Nero for the whole process if this cannot be solved. My ultimate goal is to make DVDs. Tag: movie Tag: 25107

        • Problem inserting a video clip Hi there, I've decided to insert a video clip at the beginning of my movie. When I do, the clips after it get adjusted accordingly however, things like the audio and title overlays do not. Is there some way to make sure that everything gets shifted accordingly or perhaps a way of "locking" overlays, etc. to certain video clips? Thank you, Carlo. Tag: movie Tag: 25096

        • Video Capture to MM 2 via ieee 13984 firewire, I have posted the following firewire capture problem a couple times before and tried different suggestions by this newsgroup with no solutions . This is a very confusing problem and I don't see another problem posted that is similar to mine. I will try to explain as follows: I'm not an expert with computer technology , as you can see, but trying. First of all I purchased the ZR85 Cannon Camcorder ( from DEll ) and was told that I would need the ieee 1394 firewire card and cable to capture video from my camcorder into Movie Maker II for editing, etc. I also purchased the card and cable. I installed the card and cable and from what I understand from Dell's limited tech support that it was installed correctly. They directed me to Device Manager and it seems computer recognized card and cable. No question marks, etc beside name in device mananger. Problem: When trying to capture audio and video into Movie Maker II software I am getting a scrambled, distorted video in catpure window. Audio is coming through. It seems to be downloading the way it should, rewinds tape in my camcorder, etc, but the above problem exists. I was told by someone in this newsgroup to try Windv ( free software ) which I did and the same problem exist. I have downloaded Microsoft SP 2 which includes Movie Maker II for the second time. Took about 6 hours to download >> problem still exists. What is really confusing about this problem is, I can download photos, transitions and video effects from MM back to my camcorder with no problem. What is going on ??? I don't think there is anything wrong with card or cable otherwise how could I get video back into camcorder. Anyone with any solution suggestions, comments, etc., will be greatly appreciated. I am exhausted !!!!!!! Where are you PaPa John ??????? Note: It doesn't sound like it is the software either, because it is unlikely that both MM and Windv would do the same thing. What else is there, some sort of setting on camcorder or in software ??? Help !!!!!!!!! Thank everyone for their time. My Email is walkercew@aol.com. Tag: movie Tag: 25091

        • How to remove sections of one avi file? I converted a 40 minute VHS tape to digital through a Canopus A/D convertor and imported it with Movie Maker. I did not create clips so I have one big (8GB) file. I would like to edit out certain parts of it to reduce the size but haven't been able to figure out how to do it, if possible. I tried creating clips but it didn't work. If I use the start trim point and end trim point, it doesn't help me since I'm using it on one big file. Can I do what I want or do I need a different, more sophisicated program? Thanks, Steve Tag: movie Tag: 25086

        • Do I Have 1 Or 2? How can I tell if I have MM version 1 or 2. When I look at properties it just says movie maker. I'm already in the middle of a test project so I don't want to try an update yet though. (afraid i'll lose it.) I downloaded SP2 when I got my new system about a month ago but I've read that MM2 doesn't always "take". • want to keep MM1, reinstall sp2.and have read papajohn's website b I callend DELL today and we deisntalled SP2, and MM1 is now back. And my computer is not running as well as it did with SP2. So I want to reinstall SP2 and keep MM1. I read the information at http://www.eicsoftware.com/PapaJohn/MM2/MM2.html I think I have two versions of MM1 on my harddrive: c:/windows/servicepackfiles/i386/moviemk which is 788KB (created September 2, 2004) and c:/Program Files/Movie Maker which is 836 KB (created September 2, 2004) I am so confused and frustrated. All the movies and stills are of my two children and I just don't want to fiddle with the program that I use to send their antics to family around the world. Do I have two copies of MM1? I would really appreciate receiving a step-by-step advice on how to keep one version of MM1 "safe" when I re-install SP2. Please. Tag: movie Tag: 25053

        • Trimmed Clips Sticking in MM1.1... Hello! A few days ago, I was asked to attempt a video edit using MM (basically, b/c my boss figured that I could learn the program). Well, I have achieved moderate success, but have had great difficulty with trimmed clips sticking. I'm using transitions between clips (the help section isn't very descriptive here), but I find the clips sticking even with no transition. The background is that this came from one large, long file that I seperated into clips...inserted into the timeline, and trimmed. My company is still running their own tests on XP SP2, which means that I don't have access to MM2.1. Does anyone have a fix or an idea for this. I was able to moderately correct this on my first vid (still sticks a bit), but I have no idea what I did. Please help if possible. Thanks! Tag: movie Tag: 25033

        • MM2.1 stops responding during storyboard edit MM2 freezes after a few minutes of usage when editing the timeline. MM2 is the only application that locks up â?? all other PC apps work fine. The only way out is to run Task Manager and kill the MM2 process. This is REALLY frustrating as I am creating a video presentation to be shown in public this weekend and what should take an hour or two to complete is now taking 3 or 4 hours! ..and I am running out of time! (Holy Hosed Codecs Batman!!) I have read several postings about MM2 â??crashingâ??, â??freezingâ??, and basically getting totally hosed. I have followed the Codec & Acceleration suggestions by Papa John (who, by the way, totally ROCKS! Great web site PJ! Thank you very much for all you do for this cause!!)â?¦ and have followed the few lame attempts by Microsoft to give the APPEARANCE of helpingâ?¦ and have tried other â??hintsâ?? within this newsgroup. Steps have included, but not been limited to: uninstalled ALL of the DVD and Video applications on my laptopâ?¦ renamed all Codecs (that can be renamed)â?¦ installed DirectX9câ?¦ lowered hardware accelerationâ?¦ tweaked the settings on the NVIDIA video cardâ?¦ installed Windows Media 10 (not sure what good it did, but itâ??s cool!)â?¦ used the â??Delete Codecs Utilityâ?? provided by one of the kind folks in this newsgroupâ?¦ turned off autorecoveryâ?¦ unchecked all codecs listed in MM2 optionsâ?¦ sprinkled garlic around my chairâ?¦ and chanted â??BILL IS GREATâ??â?¦ â??BILL IS GREATâ??â?¦ 15 times. No cigar. The problem is more pronounced when using collections with many pictures and the storyboard contains a lot of events (whatever â??a lotâ?? means). This production contains no video. It consists entirely of jpg images (pictures) set to music (wma) and fancy schmancy transitions with a few titles sprinkled in. I am using ONLY one song roughly 3 to 4 minutes in length. Photo Story is not an option. I like MM2â?¦ I just wish it worked! I looked at Adobe Premiere.. but itâ??s REALLY expensive and extremely unfriendlyâ?¦ as are most Adobe products.. but thatâ??s a topic for another discussion group. The only thing that seems to buy more time after a crash is to run the Disk Cleanup utility and purge everything it selects. MM2 still hangs, but I can usually work for 7 mins instead of 5. • Recording to DV camera When I click on record to DV recorder, the wizard gives me the following message. Your DV camera is notconnected to your computer. Connect your camera to your computer using an IEEE 1394 cable. and then turn on the camera. I am using the same firewire cable that I used to capture from the camera. My camera is a Sony DCR-TVR22. I set the power switch to VCR. I even went to Sony's website and downloaded the drivers again. I have re-booted. I copied the video to a cd and it plays back fine. What's up with this? Help please. -- Dan Tag: movie Tag: 25024

        • How do I make it FULL screen???? Please help! I can't seem to make the movie full screen after I've saved it. It'll play perfectly in Windows Media Player but when I right click on it and then click "full screen" it makes Media Player full screen ( I can still see the buttons at the bottom like "play" and "stop") but the actual visible portion of the movie only takes up about 50 percent of the screen. Do I need to make the movie bigger somehow when I save it? If so, how? Or is there some other problem? Thanks for anyone's help!!!! Tag: movie Tag: 25023

        • Projects and clips It seems to me that there is only one clip collection that grows independantly of project. I would like a clip collection to be local to a project. Is that possible? As I am using a digital still camera with a possibilty to shoot only short videos the result of my work will be a large number of short (usually about 60 seconds ) long movies each of which consisting of a rather limited number of clips.
