MM2 Upgrade
I just received my upgrade XP disc from Microsoft to
upgrade to Movie Maker2 and Windows Media 9, I currently
had Movie Maker. My question is that when I go into MM,
it seems to be the old version. I am trying to save a
project to an .avi format, I am under the impression that
MM2 will do this, where the old version did not. Do I
need to uninstall the old version of MM? (it was installed
with XP when I bought the PC). I hesitate to do this as I
do not want to delete shared files. Tag: joining wmv files Tag: 17052

Strange behaviour on dv-avi files
I report here something strange I have noticed with MM2.
My input file is a 5 min long standard dv-avi file created with another
editing program (MovieXOne).
The file is inserted in the MM2 time line.
When rendered as is to dv-avi, it takes about 3 minutes to render and the
quality of the output file seems perfectly unchanged as compared with the
original.
But if a simple fade out to black effect is applied (it should only affect
the last seconds of the video), the rendering takes about 20 minutes and the
quality of the output file is clearly affected during the entire movie (a
sort of "grid" of pixellisation appears slighlty but clearly on the entire
movie).
The workaround I had to apply is to cut the movie into two pieces: a big one
of 5min-3 sec. and a small one of 3 seconds on wich the fade out is applied.
Some ideas about that strange problem?

having made my finished movie/soundtrack bonanza using

(for example, all the fancy backgrounds are all well and
good - but what about a basic b&w background for a clean
and simple look??) so i am feeling frustrated (as usual!)
by my lack of knowledge about what my options are.
are there any programs anyone on here could recommend?
or is there anyone familiar with the program i am using
who could offer advice (if there is any) on altering the
themes and placement of the menu buttons.
i am feeling lost and bleh.

MovieMaker hangs when importing video from Sony DCRHC30
I am trying to import video from my new Sony DCRHC30
digicam. The import seems to work okay (I see the images
in the preview window, etc...) but then the app hangs
after the dialog entitled "capturing video" appears.
The "time" bar goes all the way to 100% and the timer
counts down to 0 time remaining and then ... nothing. It
doesn't take the whole PC down with it (which is good),
but I need to use Task Manager to quit the app.
Any thoughts out there?

Unstable Movie Maker 2
Hello
We are using Movie Maker on about 20 computers at our University to edit Video. It seems though that we will have to change over to another program. Movie Maker turned out to be extremely unstable. Especially during the capturing process the program and even the computer would restart without any warning. We have tryed it on many different types of computers, with anything (drivers and software) updated. There seems to be no pattern in this. Even when working on (rather big though) project, the computer would just anytime restart
Does anyone have similar excperience? Any hints

How to extract time and date info from DV clips in Movie Maker to a text file or DVD clips?
I've captured my DV tape and selected create clips which gives a nice list of the scenes by date. Now, how can I archive the time and date info? I've tried cut/copy/drag/drop to get it into notepad, no dice. Any ideas?
Btw, my end goal is a presumably common one, I want to archive my home dv movies into DVDs (the compression is ok), but while preserving the time/date info. Ideally, each clip would be a separate DVD chapter or title with the date as its name? Why is this so hard?.. waaahhhhh! :)
(I tried exporting to wmv and re-importing to see if it retains the time/date info. It doesn't, so if you back up your tapes to wmv, you lose it.) Tag: joining wmv files Tag: 16962

Burning movie project to a DVD
I'm new to Windows Movie Maker, so please bear with me. I've downloaded digital video from my Sony video camera to Windows Movie Maker, saved as "High quality video (large)" so I could burn it to a DVD for playback on a DVD player. My PC's OS is Windows XP. I've edited and added a soundtrack and am ready to burn it to a DVD. I have a Sony DRU-530A external DVD burner. Movie Maker has saved my project with the *.MSWMM file extension, I saw no other options, and I do not see an option in Movie Maker to save my project to a DVD. When I attempt to use the Sonic "MyDVD" software (version 5.2.1) that came with the DVD burner it will begin to encode, but will then give the following error message: One or more files could not be imported: MyDVD does not support this file type. Check the user guide for details on support files." It appears that MyDVD does not recognize the *.MSWMM extension. Audio surgery needed (?)...
I'm the guy doing the speedup (1x/4x/8x) video of the
route that I drive for training purposes. I'm 95% done
and just want to add some audio narration in a dozen
spots or so, but I'm close to the storage space limits
according to the stats associated with the test VCD and
DVD that I just burned.
My main question is, will the removal of already muted
audio tracks lower the space requirement on the
destination media ???
If so, is there a way to remove the audio originally
associated with the video track without skewing all of
the editing that I've done (I've got 100+ clips and a ton
of text screens sprinkled throughout) ???

MM2 Saving problem
I'm a newbie so forgive me if this is an old chestnut.
I've created a project , it's currently about 1m 15s long.
(It's actually taken me ages to do.)
I rendered it to wmv when it was about 1/2 way done - no
problems. (AMD Athlon XP 2200+, 1 Gb DDR)
Now however when I try and save to wmv it just
keeps clocking up the 'time reaining' but never stops - I left
it for 2 hours once.
I've tried re-installing MM2 - no joy.
Any ideas amyone?
Cheers

MM2 preview shows only top half of image
This is now a more consistent problem, but I beieve it has
caused my MM2 to go 'belly up' before. The bottom half of
the preview screen either is black or flickers with a blue
or a 2 colour image of a Windows Explorer like list though
illegible. Viewed full screen, the iamge has horizontal
scan type stripes through it and it all flickers. Appears
to be better when rendered to wmv as it deinterlaces it.
Oh yeah, source video is either DV-AVI 30fps or Analogue
(S-Video) PAL @ 25fps - now using a canopus ACE DVio
capture card.
I have downloaded and applied the latest Matrox graphics
card drivers.
This issue started when I captured some video from my NTSC
VX2000 which was set to Progressive scan. I've since
reinstalled XP and my drivers, albeit over an existing
partition.
Is it a codec problem? I also have Pinnacle 7.15,
Procoder Express, and a host of other utilities, codecs
etc, though with the reinstall they might not be
registered yet.
Using Matrox G550, 1Gb DDR, P4 2.66Ghz CPU, XP Pro, Dx9b
and a number of large HDD's with space.
Help is appreciated.

How cum?
It takes Nero about 30-min to encode an hour's worth of .wmv files to VCD format and another 5-10 min to burn the VCD
It takes WMM 5-HOURS (that's what it says) to encode .the same files for VCD
