However, at a price. The video, while playing right through, jerks or shudders a bit while doing so, and the sound plays through too but is of only average quality. In short, a clip played in Storyboard isn't a patch on a clip play in Collections. Something in MM2 is still trying to mess with the .avi file. So, I give up! ;-) Can I revert back to MM1? If so, how do I do this? If I have to use the XP Pro roll back feature, will any software that I have installed since MM2 - quite a bit - be removed also? I would be very grateful if you could advise me on this. I have to say that this whole experience has been, far and away, my worst with any Microsoft product. Not good at all.     - New XP Pro install, MM2 update, MM2 now toast!!! XP Pro,. Radeon 64 DDR VIVO, Creative Webcam and sometimes Fuji S602 Z all connected. Latest Radeon Cat 4.2 installed. Movie Maker was working. Didn't test it fully but I'm pretty sure I started it up and the composite input off Radeon came up. Been doing the thing at Windows update (new install) and noticed the MM2 update so did it also. Now when I choose to start recording MM2 hangs. Supplied help seems to indicate a video device selection dialog box should come up but it never does. Any ideas? I havem't updated WMP from 8 and would prefer not to. Hopefully that's not a requirement is else the update site would have indicated same. Also I can't find any "Remove" for MM or MM2 in Add/Remove under any of the choices. I can seem to use all the video devices in MSMessenger, the VFW's devices (cams) in NetMeeting and ATI's TV-In app is working finest kind. tia for any help. If nothing else, how do I remove it?     - Help making clips please I made a nice avi file from DVIO. I am going from vcr to camcorder to pc through firewire. Worked great and looks very clean. It is 6 gigs. My problem is creating clips to edit. When I click import video into WMM2 with make clips checked, well it just does not make the clips. I have tried right clicking to make clips also, no luck this way either. Its just one big file. Am I missing something or does it not work on .avi files?     - Poor Audio Quality Hi NG, I'm using Windows Movie Maker 2 to edit and merge Videos recorded with my camera (Mustek MDC 5500Z, produces AVI videos with Audio IMA ADPCM). When I import one of these Avis with Movie Maker (it creates a clip) then the sound quality is so heavily reduced, that it is nearly impossible to understand what anybodys says on that video.     - Fonts and Colors OK, this will seem a bit stupid, I'm sure. but here it is anyway; I cannot find the ability to change fonts, colors, or alignments for an overlay. I've read the help file that states, "Selecting the title font and color This page lets you choose the font and colors for your title or credits. By changing the font and colors, you can change the appearance of the title to enhance your movie. The following options appear on this page."... however, I'm not seeing this option anywhere. When right clicking on the text, most MS programs give the option "FONT". This one does not. Did I miss an instalation file? Am I completely in the dark about something simple and stupid?     - Analog capture thru sony dv camera I am trying to capture analog video using my Sony TRV38 digital video camera as a converter.I am using an IEEE1394 connection.When I go to capture the video it shuts the camera off. The only way I can capture the video is if I turn the camera on first. Then select record pause on the camera in vcr mode, and then connect the IEEE1394 cable. I get an error message, close it, then it starts to capture the video. Is this the only way to capture analog video thru my digital video camera using a firewire connection?     - can't put my movie onto my website I had made a video tutorial to put on my website and the file extensions that are made are either .wav or .mswmm. My website only accepts .avi .mov or mpeg . Is there a way to change the file extension or choose it before it gets saved?     - Replacing video with slide show Can someone please help me find the "least expensive" software that will allow me to replace video while continuing to hear the audio associated with that video. In other words, I have a video clip of my father discussing his early life. While he is talking, I want to fade into still pics of his early life. I'm a bit confused...being new to the whole video editing\creation thing, I just got started with Windows Movie Maker 2 today by using still pictures to put together a slide show with music and some effects. That's been going fine.. My questions are about saving - it looks like 640x480 is the max resolution that a video can be saved as. Is this correct Now, that size is fine for viewing on my computer, but what about television? I'm not sure how computer resolutions translate into TV viewing. I have a 42 inch television. Would the video fill the whole screen, or just a small window? Would it be a mess (stretched and pixelized?) Of the save options, which are actually the best quality (once you choose to pick manually and not let windows pick)? The options they present are a bit confusing. Are higher kbs always better? (Assuming local viewing and not trying to make web friendly)?     - playback hang-ups Went to papajohn site very informative but no luck for my particulars which are Video captures fine from my sony mini DV cam and saving back to mini DV gives good results as well. Its the editing and MM clip playback on the MM2 monitor pane that is very unstable and sometimes results in the infamous error report. I should add that the audio is played back without interuption, its really only the compressed video file (I think MM2 call this a movie maker project file) that seems to have the problem in stability, meaning when i play back the (edit in process project file) timeline it almost seems that the graphics card (in my case a graphics adaptor intel 170) is trying to catch up with the speed of the video images, the result of course is a highly unwatchable product. I checked the codecs through the XP direct diagnostic tool and did not see any that matched ones listed at papajohns site.I also tried the settings on the accelerator but to no avail. I should also add that MM2 does save the last edit when there is an error crash (hang-up), a window comes up asking me if I want to retrieve the lost data, so eventually I can finish the edit but what a pain. But I cannot resolve this: I've used MM2 before (made a 20 min pix/video presentation 2 months ago) However now I've started a new project. It involves still pix's, mp3 audio and .mpg. I've inserted my title, added several still pix, but when I add an .mpg (maybe 10-15 sec. long) MM2 freezes. It will not play the clip. If I save the file right after I add the .mpg then exit the program, it will allow me to add another clip. But if I try & play the entire clip it freezes.     - video device Movie maker is only detecting my logitech web cam as "Available Device" - I can not get it to detect my video camera. The strange thing is - if I disconnect the web cam - then my Panasonic will appear in the Imaging Devices in the Device Manager.     - Wont Capture I recently purchased an new PC with Windows XP Media edition. The movie maker recognizes my Canon ZR camercorder. When I click the start capture button the camera beging playing but the preview screen remains black and no video is being captured. The stop capture button stops the recording. I tried to import files that has been downloaded from the internet in (mpeg) format, but every time I got the following message:The file *.mps is not a supported file type, and it cannot be imported into Windows Movie Maker
Is there any way to go around this problem

Playback/importing of MPEG2 content is completely dependent on the third
party MPEG2 decoder installed on your computer. Most do not work well. See
the Importing Source Files > Video > MPEG2 page of www.papajohn.org
