Replacing video with slide show
Can someone please help me find the "least expensive" software that will allow me to replace video while continuing to hear the audio associated with that video. In other words, I have a video clip of my father discussing his early life. While he is talking, I want to fade into still pics of his early life. This is not like a narration where I would add voice to a series of still pics, but rather the opposite. Replacing the video while leaving the audio
I was told that WMM might do this, but I have not been able to figure it out if it does. If it will, I would appreciate any assistance you might be able to provide. If it won't, does anyone know a software package that will. I have been told that Adobe Premiere will do this, but have not checked it out due to the cost

Two major problems---
I am unable to play clip, storyboard or timeline. I have
imported clips from winter pack, transitions, some of my
own photos and audios- I drag them to the storyboard,
click Play Clip or Play Storyboard and get nothing in the
preview screen. When I click the any of the buttons on
the preview screen I get a popup that says "Class Not
Registered". What does this mean and how do I correct it?
Also, when I try to record a narrative- nothing happens.
There is nothing in the device box, and no choices in the
drop downs- microphone works in other applications-
Any help to get this up and running sure would be
appreciated. Thanks. Tag: import of .mov-files Tag: 12603

minor audio issues
I posted a few days ago but did not get a response. Was
hoping papa john or cari might have a suggestion.I have
some static and a few hickups in the audio portion of

song was up loaded or ripped. Does not happen in every
song and seems to happen with transtions. I have a pent

capture analog questions
I am sorry for the dumb questions, but I feel like a dolt. I just began reading this board and find that everyone is well beyond me in understanding WMM. I need some basic knowledge
I want to copy videotapes (VCR and those created with a Canon Hi8 ES2500) to DVD. No editing at this time, but that may come later. My PC â?? Sony RZ32G â?? has USB, and video connectors - S-Video, Composite audio/video, and S400 (IEEE 1394) port. I can even input a TV signal I guess â?? donâ??t intend to try. But it doesnâ??t look like it has what I need to do the job.
Do I need to ADD a â??capture deviceâ?? of some kind since it appears that I have only analog tapes to deal with? Must I upgrade my video card (NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 440 with AGP8X (Sony))? Are there alternative ways to go? Suggestions/recommendations? Thanx, Lee Tag: import of .mov-files Tag: 12567

Newbie Questions...
I'm a bit confused...being new to the whole video editing\creation thing, I just got started with Windows Movie Maker 2 today by using still pictures to put together a slide show with music and some effects. That's been going fine..
My questions are about saving - it looks like 640x480 is the max resolution that a video can be saved as. Is this correct
Now, that size is fine for viewing on my computer, but what about television? I'm not sure how computer resolutions translate into TV viewing. I have a 42 inch television. Would the video fill the whole screen, or just a small window? Would it be a mess (stretched and pixelized?)
Of the save options, which are actually the best quality (once you choose to pick manually and not let windows pick)? The options they present are a bit confusing. Are higher kbs always better? (Assuming local viewing and not trying to make web friendly)? "High Quality, Large" isn't very informative
If you want a FULL, super-high quality copy for archive, what option would that be
Oh, on other question, this one about Audio
Is there any way to trim an audio clip, then make it fade out instead of ending abruptly
Thanks Tag: import of .mov-files Tag: 12555

playback hang-ups
Went to papajohn site very informative but no luck for my particulars which are
Video captures fine from my sony mini DV cam and saving back to mini DV gives good results as well. Its the editing and MM clip playback on the MM2 monitor pane that is very unstable and sometimes results in the infamous error report. I should add that the audio is played back without interuption, its really only the compressed video file (I think MM2 call this a movie maker project file) that seems to have the problem in stability, meaning when i play back the (edit in process project file) timeline it almost seems that the graphics card (in my case a graphics adaptor intel 170) is trying to catch up with the speed of the video images, the result of course is a highly unwatchable product. I checked the codecs through the XP direct diagnostic tool and did not see any that matched ones listed at papajohns site.I also tried the settings on the accelerator but to no avail. I should also add that MM2 does save the last edit when there is an error crash (hang-up), a window comes up asking me if I want to retrieve the lost data, so eventually I can finish the edit but what a pain. Anybody have anything new to add? Papajohns comments are always aprreciated.

MM 2 hangs after import of .mpg
OK, I've read many posts & PapaJohn, I've done your check
list. But I cannot resolve this: I've used MM2 before
(made a 20 min pix/video presentation 2 months ago)
However now I've started a new project. It involves still
pix's, mp3 audio and .mpg. I've inserted my title, added
several still pix, but when I add an .mpg (maybe 10-15
sec. long) MM2 freezes. It will not play the clip. If I
save the file right after I add the .mpg then exit the
program, it will allow me to add another clip. But if I
try & play the entire clip it freezes. (The .mpg clips
are imported from another source - not using MM2 to
create the .mpg)

Movie Maker 2 Hang up
I am about at my wits end -- and I have contacted
Microsoft, and they won't talk to me without paying since
my Windows XP Pro is "OEM"; and since MM2 is a part of
the operating system, whether it works or not, I need to
contact the OEM. Now, since MS seems to know little
about MM2, (witness the Knowledge Base corrections list),
OEM will know even less.
What happens:
It will only capture a few frames of video from my
camera, then hangs up. It access the camera, via
firewire cable, (IEEE 1394), properly, rewinds the
digital tape in the camera, then says it is capturing the
image.
I watch the movie on the camcorder, and then stop the
capture after a few seconds (10 or so). Then it says
creating the file, and HANGS up. I get, maybe, a few
frames, about .1 - .4 seconds ( 1/10 - 4/10 sec.) of
capture.
I also have tried monitoring and not monitoring the
capture on the computer, but makes no difference. MM2
will not then restart without restarting the computer
(other computer functions are OK without restart).
I have contacted Sharp, and the only software they have
is the driver for the SD card in the camera for
downloading still photos, nothing needed for the firewire
interface.
Yesterday, I talked with MS and had sent to me (email)
a 'Hotfix', KB826377. The Sharp model number specified in
the Hotfix was not for my camera, but thought perhaps the
article was not totally current, and that other Sharp
camcorders might be affected. Mine is the Sharp VL-Z5U.
No difference after installing the Horfix.
I also did the following:
Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 825229
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-
us;825229 (a Microsoft goof).
My computer has 1 GB memory, has a 2.5 ghz P4 processor,
and 103 GB of available hard drive space; plenty of
capability.
ANY THOUGHTS.??

moviemaker or primiere?
For the price moviemaker is great - and it has been very easy to use
What little I have done with Premiere, it doesn't seem as easy to use, and
may actually be an overkill for what I will probably ever do. Here is where
I need some feedback.
For the near term I want to make simple titles and plain fades for
transitions and use audio "as is."
However, I will eventually want to A-B roll two large sources (a two camera
shoot) into one final product.
here are my questions:
1) what is my approach with this software to make this work smoothly?
Do I need to berak the two sources into smaller segs based on time code?
2) which product maks this easier?
3) how do I strip audio from a tape and discard the video? which product
facilitates this?
4) which product allows me to color correct segs?
5) which format is best to capture in? AVI is huge BUT I see no difference
on my computer between Peimiere AVI and Moviemaker - but there must be a
difference or Premiere would offer something smaller I'm sure
6) which product offers the most productive workflow once you gotten past
the learning curve? Tag: import of .mov-files Tag: 12478
