    - Effects and Transitions have dissapeared I came home on Friday (May 28th), booted up my computer and opened Movie Maker 2 to find that all effects and transitions have dissapeared, except for "slow down" and "speed up" After attempting to open movie maker in someone else's account on the same computer, rebooting the computer, and reinstalling movie maker, the problem was not fixed Can anyone please tell me what to do to fix this. The music does not show up as existing at all in the My Music file even though it has been copied into the Media Player.     - Cannot copy to cd or transfer to dv camera I made a video using pictures of my daughter starting from when she was born to now for her graduation video. When I tried burning to cd, only some of the pictures were there but all of the music selections were there. And when I tried transfering to my sony dv camera to put on tape it says there is not enough disk space. Apparently the pic's I scanned into the computer for the video's is taking up all of my disc space.     - Unable to save slideshow to CD or HD Hi to all Created my 1st slideshow with graphics files and audio on my HD. It all ran perfectly. I saved the project to my local HD.     - Problem with viewing video in Timeline but views fine in Collection Field I am able to view a video from the collection field but as soon as I add it to my timeline I can hear the audio but the screen is black.     - digital photos no longer in focus Ok I need some help. I have used Adobe Photoshop album to make simple slideshows. I don't do anything to the photos except drag them to the desired position. However when I do the same with moviemaker2 which provides so much more extras, the slideshow is clearly not in focus. It looks just slightly out of focus. The photos are taken with a 6.0 meg Fuji camera and again I don't do anything like resize them or change them for Adobe so I fugured it should be the same for moviemaker2.     - clips in Collections I have just capture from my camcorder 16 minutes of video using the Capture Video Wizard and the 'Start Capture' and 'Stop Capture' method. I then clicked on FINISH expecting to see a couple dozen clips populate the Collections area. What I got, however, was one long clip in the Collections area that has everything thing in it that I thought I was breaking into separate clips using the 'Start'/'Stop' procedure.     - Audio Mixing Is Window's Movie Maker capable of laying down a variety of music blending in the same "movie". I have filmed a wedding and want to have music only that I add. in the beginning; then the original sound track I imported from my digital camera into the computer; and finally, a mix of the original audio track with music that I add in the end for the recap. I discovered the Audio-levels option but it seems to only allow me to have a certain blend of original sound track from the tape to added music for the entire movie.     - Can't Save Movie to Local File I'm experiencing an "all of the sudden" problem saving a Movie File. I'm attempting to save it to "My Computer" like I always do and then after completing the wizard it waits a few minutes and indicates that it's trying to write a Recordable CD format. At this point it just sits there (i.e. no % progress) and the number of minutes remaining is huge. I've been using Movie Maker for over a year and this just started happening this week. I've ensured that the save path is my local hard drive and even tried saving to another hard drive in the same system to see if that would work, but no luck.     - Loud Sound As Audio Fades In the movie that I'm making I use lots of audio/music clips (wav files). In almost all cases I only use a portion of the music clip -- fading it in or out as the situation requires. On many of the clips where I fade it out (before the actual clip ends) there is a loud noise/squawk right at the very end, just after the fade. It sounds terrible and readjusting the end of the clip makes no difference. It doesn't happen of every clip but it does happen frequently. Does anyone else have this same problem? Is there a solution? Thanks in advance. Note: I'm playing my first MovieMaker project tomorrow (Saturday) night for 150 people!     - TabletPC capture problem ? Any ideas ? I have 2 laptop computers that I use. I use an OranLink FireWire CardBus, that I move from laptop to laptop. One has Win 2000 Pro and WinDV, for example, works great. Capture works every time - no problems whatsoever. My newer one runs XP Pro - it's a TabletPC from Toshiba (Portege 3500). I have read that the TabletPC version of XP Pro includes SP1. My other laptop, running Win 2000 Pro has all the current MS updates installed. Here is my problem. First off, my XP Pro laptop would not capture at all, so I started investigating. In desperation, I reinstalled XP Pro from the Toshiba recovery CDs and had the unit in factory condition. Nothing else installed except for the OrangeLink FireWire driver and WinDV. With nothing else installed, WinDV captures well. Everything works great then. But if I install any or all of the recommend security patches from MS - and there are several - capture is no longer possible. It will start capturing for 3-5 seconds, WinDV freezes up and the camera continues to play the footage. I have tried and tried to install a select number of patches, but anyone of them will cause the same problem. I am unusure of the solution and have not really found the exact same problem documented anywhere... By the way, I did try other capturing software (Ulead, Pinnacle Studio and Win MovieMaker 2) and all have the exact same problem. Do you have any ideas ?     - Need more CPU for MM2 I am running an AMD Athlon 1700+, with 1024mb of DDR SDRAM. I was saving a MM2 project as a movie, and the 700mb file took about 4 hours to encode. During this time my CPU usage was about 1%. On the "Performance settings" page the CPU and RAM are set for best performance of programs.     - narration I have put together and edited a wonderful sound track to my collection of stills and video clips. Now I learn that you can only add narration by statrting in a place where there is no sound track already - ie an empty spot.     - DVD Burners Hello, Yesterday I was at our local computer store and saw something I had been told previously (Not in here) would never become available. Sony have released a Dual Layer DVD burner that also supports both the "=" and "+" formats.....the even bigger surprise was the cost. UK £149 The drive will hold up to 8.5GB which is perhaps 1.5hours of high quality DVD. The Sales people could not tell me when the disks themselves would be in store and they had no idea on their price.....but what marvelous news this is. The draw back is they are new technology as far as we are concerned and may not be a good buy for that reason.....     - No Sound after capturing Video I have Windows Movie Maker ver. 5.1, a Dell Demension series 4400 with a Pentium 4 processor@ 1.7 GHz and 20 Gig of available hard drive, and a Sony model DCR-TRV22 Digital Vidio Cam.     - MM2 crashes when I click on video transition or effect - Okay, I have been having some real (and recent) problems with Movie Maker 2. Until about 3 weeks ago (end of March 2004) it worked just fine - and I was pleased with the features it has - a super program. Well, the problem began. Now, everyone knows that during this period 'sasser' arrived, and so did a bunch of other nasties and my Windows Update went mad updating (as did Norton and AVG). During this period Movie Maker 2 ceased to work properly. Everytime, and I mean EVERYTIME I click on either a video transition or effect, the program crashed. I reformatted my system twice to eliminate system problems,even loaded it first to eliminate software conflicts. There were none - MM2 continued (and still continues) to crash when I click on the two features mentioned above. In desperation I called Microsoft's technical support and spoke at great length with a technician about this. In fairness, under her guidance, several things were tried, investigated, attempted - all for not. The program still crashes. I received a nice email from the tech and replied please do not close the ticket - keep trying for a solution to my (and others) problem. I did check the newsgroups on Microsoft's site and found others having this same problem. The ticket was closed and I heard nothing back - the program is useless in it's current form. I again emailed Microsoft, to a person whose email I know - and even though she is not a techie she does understand - and on May 24/04 I received an email telling me that the techies have been alerted - again - and to expect contact from them. I was also given the option to phone the tech line - unfortunately I have used up my two freebie calls with this problem -so- I await - with a program that worked fine until March/April - and am faced with the probability of having to purchase a similar program - unless the techies find the problem and let me (and the many others) know Tag: How do you import clips from a DVD Tag: 18208

    - Notes About a Capture Session I'm collecting facts for my books and website...and thought I'd share some notes with you. Not many know that capturing from a digital camcorder into a WMV file is actually a two step process. While capturing a 40 minute segment of video from my digital camcorder last night, I opted to go directly to a 2.1 Mbps WMV file and watch MM2's automatic two step process. I have the choice of letting MM2 do both steps automatically, or I can control each of the steps by capturing to DV-AVI first and then converting the file. The 2 steps are: 1 - capture the video coming in from the camcorder to a temporary DV-AVI file 2 - convert the DV-AVI file to a WMV file and discard the temporary DV-AVI one When you tell MM2 to make the WMV file from the incoming video tape, it takes care of both steps in the background..... the session went fine and here's a copy of my notes: - a 40 minute DV-AVI file would be over 8 GB and I didn't want the higher quality that comes with the big file size. I wanted a 2.1 kbps file of 495 MB, only about 7 percent of the size of a DV-AVI file. - the capture from the camcorder itself is in real time, so it's a 40 minute task to get a DV-AVI file... but it's a bit longer to get it as a WMV file as MM2 captures to a temporary DV-AVI file first, and then uses whatever energy the computer can spare during the capture to convert the temporary file to the final WMV one.... so a capture to WMV format is actually making two files at once, and it needs more time to finish. - half way through, at the 20 minute mark, the temporary DV-AVI file was 1.56 GB and the WMV file was up to 152+ MB. - at 30 minutes, the DV-AVI file was 2.52 GB and the WMV 264+ MB - at the end of the camcorder capture phase, the 40 minute point, the temporary DV-AVI file was 3.48 GB and the WMV file 328+ MB, 2/3 of the way toward it's final size. So it had enough spare energy during the DV-AVI capture process to render 2/3 of the WMV file..... - the CPU was still chugging along at 100% as the rest of the WMV file was rendered from the temporary. That took another 28 minutes and during that period the WMV file moved up to its final size of 495 MB, but the temporary DV-AVI file stayed at its peak size of 3.48 GB.... it didn't go down as the data was added to the WMV file. - when the CPU stopped chugging along and the WMV file stopped growing, I pressed the Finish button in MM2 to get it into my collection. I hadn't selected scene detection so it came in as a single clip. Lot's of stuff continued to happen in the background, and I wasn't using the computer for other purposes... it took another 9 minutes from pressing the Finish button until the clip appeared in my collection and everything was ready to go again. - pressing the Finish button was the cue that Movie Maker 2 used to delete the big temporary file. My laptop is 2.4 Ghz... if I had a slower computer, it's possible that the combined total of the temporary DV-AVI file and the WMV file being rendered from it could exceed the size of a DV-AVI file from the camcorder.... so it might be using less space in the long run, but not necessarily in the short run.... if my laptop were quicker, the size of the temporary file might peak at a lower size. I usually opt to take care of the two steps myself.... capture into a DV-AVI file first, make the WMV file from it, and then delete the DV-AVI file. I've been trying to get clips from a DVD and I was wondering how do you import them from a DVD. It keeps on saying that it doesn't support it. Is there a way I can change that?

Hello there,

Its a subject that is beyond the scope of this newsgroup. There is an
excelent website called DVDR Help (there is a link on my web site) You
would do well to go there and learn the secrets of Ripping and De-Muxxing
etc etc.
