    - chopping a bit off the end of a video If I recorded a .wmv using MM2.1 and then imported that file back into MM2.1 and split off the last minute of the video and saved the result using exactly the same video profile. Am I right in assuming that there would be no loss of quality whatsoever because the program would be intelligent enough to spot that it's simply doing a trim operation and doesn't need to re-encode (and degrade the quality further) ? I'm tempted to think this isn't the case because doing this operation can take 20 minutes on a 30 minute video recorded (and being re-saved) at 500kbps.     - wmv versions produced? Hi, I've been recording shows using MovieMaker for a couple of years. The last few months using version 2.1 of MM and previously version 2.0. Before that I used Windows Media Encoder 7 and then 8. I'm now looking at getting a portable media center and need to know the exact version of the files I've made. I don't know if they're wmv7, 8, 9 or 10.     - Recording my project problems I need help also! I've only been using MovieMaker a short while, but seemed to have a good idea what was going on. I made a few movies from pictures that I uploaded from my pc and turned into movies with music. However, now I am using the same photos and same music but am unable to record to CD. The project records the first 2/3 of the movie just fine, but during the last 1/3 of the movie the screen goes black with no pictures. The music continues to play just no pictures.     - Problems saving to CD I need help also! I've only been using MovieMaker a short while, but seemed to have a handle on it when making the first couple of movies. I have uploaded my own pictures into the collection. However, now, when I record onto CD the last third of the pictures aren't recording.     - no cd in drive I have made a video on my WMM. Pictures, video and audio is on this. I know this was asked before, however, I have tried making a cd, and it goes thru most of the process with wizard. Then I get the message no CD in Drive. I know the cd burner works because I burn other music or videos. That is done from CD to CD, not from computer to CD. Also it asks if I want to save to Computer. If I open up my videos in WMM and I view the collection, doesn't that mean that it is saved in my computer.     - DV-AVI (Pal) -- AVI files have no meta-data fields!! I have movies saved in DV-AVI (PAL) because that is the best quality WMM allows for. Unfortunately AVI files do not have any fields for met-data input, nothing editable . How can I add information or fields to AVI files, is there a program available to do that, or something from the group that invented the AVI standard. I have tried putting information in the properties tab in WMM, but this does not show up on the outputted file. I thought about saving the file as a 'High quality video (PAL)', which is WMV (VBR), but this would egrade the quality. So if AVI cannot have fields, why not and how do I convert to WMV lossless?     - Splitting Finished DV-AVI PRoject So I saved my project to disk, 13 GB , and then used MYDVD to get to a disk. Everything fine so far. But now I want to take my 13gb DV-AVI clip and save it to Multiple DVD's (4.7) with out compressing anymore. Is there a program that will split this into 3 parts, without any parts being dependent on the others.     - DVD-RAM import I have a Panasonic DMR-E85H DVD recorder that can record on DVD-RAM media. On my computer I can play the DVD-RAM with PowerDVD. When I look at the disc content I see a file called VR_MOVIE.VRO, and after changing the file extension to MPG I can play the file in Media Player. My problem is when I try to import this file in Movie Maker. I get this error message: "T:\TV\VR_MOVIE.mpg could not be imported. An interface has too many methods to fire events from". Once there I could propagate my message or advertise some other product or service. Just wondering;. I've poured through the U.S. Copyright and not being a lawyer, it's all Greek to me. WHAT IS COPYRIGHT? Copyright is a form of protection provided by the laws of the United States (title 17, U.S. Code) to the authors of "original works of authorship," including literary, dramatic, musical, artistic, and certain other intellectual works. This protection is available to both published and unpublished works. Section 106 of the 1976 Copyright Act generally gives the owner of copyright the exclusive right to do and to authorize others to do the following: · To reproduce the work in copies or phonorecords; · To prepare derivative works based upon the work; · To distribute copies or phonorecords of the work to the public by sale or other transfer of ownership, or by rental, lease, or lending; · To perform the work publicly, in the case of literary, musical, dramatic, and choreographic works, pantomimes, and motion pictures and other audiovisual works; · To display the copyrighted work publicly, in the case of literary, musical, dramatic, and choreographic works, pantomimes, and pictorial, graphic, or sculptural works, including the individual images of a motion picture or other audiovisual work; and · In the case of sound recordings, to perform the work publicly by means of a digital audio transmission. In addition, certain authors of works of visual art have the rights of attribution and integrity as described in section 106A of the 1976 Copyright Act. For further information, request Circular 40, "Copyright Registration for Works of the Visual Arts." It is illegal for anyone to violate any of the rights provided by the copyright law to the owner of copyright. These rights, however, are not unlimited in scope. Sections 107 through 121 of the 1976 Copyright Act establish limitations on these rights. In some cases, these limitations are specified exemptions from copyright liability. Furthermore, in the event that a work is infringed, if a proper notice of copyright appears on the published copy or copies to which a defendant in a copyright infringement suit had access, then no weight shall be given to such a defendant's interposition of a defense based on innocent infringement in mitigation of actual or statutory damages, except as provided in section 504(c)(2) of the copyright law. Innocent infringement occurs when the infringer did not realize that the work was protected. As a comment to MS, I don't understand why you need 2 programs to do the most basic functions (specifically pan/zoom or make titles as separate frames, and of course save to DVD).     - runtime error - pure virtual function call Looking at previous posts in this thread, I'm guessing "runtime error" could have a variety of causes. My problem is this: When trying to save a particular movie back to DV camera and it gets to 33%, 14 min remaining and hangs, but doesn't crash. Windows task manager says Movie Maker is still running. After cancelling I get this cryptic message: "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library Runtime error R6025 pure virtual funtion call" I have been able to save this movie to CD, reimport it from CD into MM2, then save it to my camera! I have also been able to save a small test 'movie' straight from MM2 to camera; so I'm guessing the size/complexity of my problem movie is part of the problem - it's only 10 min long but in AVI format with lots of clips, transitions, & music added - so a biggish file. I'm using WinXP prof, MM2, SP2; I think this is the first movie I've done since replacing my CPU & motherboard, but the small test movie worked. I still have lots of memory avail so I'm confused.     - Movie file became corrupted Well, I imported video from my camcorder, saved it to my computer as an AVI file and everything worked out great. It worked fine, but now when I try to play it, it "skips," like a CD thats scratched would. I downloaded an audio/video analyzer called G-Spot and it said that my movie file is corrupted.     - Crashing 50% into saving to computer I created an hour long video made up with numerous clips, songs, and transitions. When I am trying to save in Dv-avi It crashes in various points. The first time 35%, 50%, and finally 93%. Is there a limit to how much you can convert? Also, my main files are kept on a USB drive and I am converting the project to my hard drive, does that matter. Hello There does not seem to be a Windows Mobile option in Movie Maker 2 when saving the file to My Computer, if I save it as any of the Pocket PC format and then Sync to my I-Mate SP3 using Media Player I get the following error message: "Windows Media Player cannot convert the file to the format required by the device" .     - Digital Video to DVD? Hi all, I am new with Movie Maker and I was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction here. I have a JVC GR-D33U Digital Video Camera. What I am trying to do is take a video I recorded from the camera into Movie Maker, add some fades and titles, and export it. Now, here's the catch. I want to export it to a file and then burn to a DVD so I can send the DVD to some friends in the mail. So ultimately I am looking for the best quality DVD that I can. I want my friends to be able to drop the DVD into their stereo system at home and watch the final product on their TV. Thus my questions... What setting should I input the video into MovieMaker? Will I ever be able to use songs in AAC format? Movie Maker only excepts
MP3? Is that correct or will I have to re-rip my collection of 4000 songs?

I doubt it. MM probably supports WMA and WAV (probably). Why not use
something like WMA Lossless for your collection? Mint quality for the local
machine and other devices on the network. Then when you use WMP10 to sync
your music to a portable device if it needs to it'll auto re-encode to a
selected bitrate for the device. All the decent devices on the market today
support this.

With storage so cheap everyone should really be using lossless by now. Not
codecs where data is thrown away like MP3 and AAC.
