I'm working on this one--it does not seem possible that this feature can be
absent. If anyone has the answer, PLEASE help us!

It's not a core feature, so you have to do some work-around.... a couple:

- use 2 copies of the same clip, muting the second one and overlapping the
two so they are exactly in sync. The video would be fading from the first
clip to the second, but being the same, it would end up OK.... the audio
part would fade from full to none over the length of the overlap. It would
be a little tricky to be sure the two clips are exactly in sync... trim them
as needed as you can't overlap two exactly.

- play the source file in WMP and use the volume adjustment as it plays to
gradually fade it.... and capture the playing audio as a narration file in
MM2.

easier yet... put the clip on the audio/music track twice... mute the second
one, overlap them and the fade will be linear over the overlap.... then save
the move to a WMA file (with only audio, it'll give you appropriate audio
choices)... then use the WMA as your audio over the clip...

this is much easier and quicker than the two ideas in my first response...
