Up until recently (after installing SP2) i could use MM without any trouble -
now when I try to import my tape using AVI format, via firewire, the result
is a movie the jumps around seems to stutter along and the sound is complete
rubbish. I have gone back and tried with a previously good tape made with MM
and the result is the same. I have tried to download the program again but am
told by microsoft the I am fully up to date so will not download MM again. If
I use the AV out to the phono connections the result is perfect but not
digital of course. I can produse a perfectly good edited movie back to my
camera using "Power Producer" so the tape and camera are OK. I prefer MM as
it has more options. Can anyone advise.

Sounds like it may be a resource issue. Try turning all not needed apps off,
use something like enditall. Ensure you have plenty of space on the hdd, as
full drives work slowly. defrag. Turn off internet/firewall/anti-virus etc.
If non of this works, have alook at windv a programme just for capture and
export, which you can then use the file it makes in MM.
