How to increase DVD capacity
Want to convert VHS tapes to DVD. Already captured it in
AVI format (320-240 YUY2 25 fps), edited it in Windows
Movie Maker, and saved as a project (*.MSWMM). Also saved
the movie as a *.wmv file.
I'd like to burn the movie (2 hours and 20 minutes) on a
single DVD using MyDVD on the *.wmv file, however,
according to MyDVD this would take 2 full DVD's. Reducing
the bitrate while producing the *.wmv file doesn't help.
Is there a way to reduce the file size and burn it on a
single DVD? Preferably while maintaining it in the
original VHS quality?
Thanks for suggestions! Tag: digital media protection Tag: 21184

Movie is cut by half by WMM2
When I import a mpeg movie in WMM2, only half of it is played ! I have tried to lengthen the video with the arrows but it's impossible. I only get half of it. It stops after a few seconds. The correct duration is 03:27 but in the collection window, it indicates 0:03 ! It's the same for all my videos. I already used WMM2 in the past to create my movies with the same videos and never faces this problem. I have reinstalled WMM2 but the problem has not disappeared. Please help... Saving Movie Problems
I am having trouble saving movies in MM2. It is a
intermittent problem. I can capture the audio/video okay
and move the clips to the timeline okay. I can also make
headers and ending credits okay. However, when it comes
time to save the movie, I get a strange message about how
I can't save the movie due to invalid source files,
inadequate space, and/or a bad saving location. However,
none of this is true, as I have plenty of RAM, plenty of
hard disk space, the source files are intact and the
destination is valid. There basically is NO reason the
movies are not saving properly, as I haven't changed the
settings from the last time I used MM2 a month ago (it
worked fine then). FYI, I have done a Windows re-install
since then, but that should not matter, as the most
recent project was recorded since then. HELP!!! Tag: digital media protection Tag: 21177

Some Questions
Hello I am new here. I am making a movie and I have some questions. Is it possible for you to have a movie clip with the audio, then shorten the clip, but leave the audio going and put in another clip. Does that make sense?? Also reading these boards people are saying that when they put it to a dvd it comes out bad, how do I save it as a AVI? Thanks a lot :) Tag: digital media protection Tag: 21170

I captured the video with MM2 from my Sony camcorder with
firewire. Why are the clips grainy/fuzzy? How can I
improve the quality to match what I see on my TV when I
play from the camera? Is there another program that will
capture better quality video? I also have Roxio & MyDVD

MM2 sound problem (16 bits or 12 bits)
Hi,
I'm capturing video from camcorder Panasonic PVDV53 using firewire and MM2 as capturing software in Windows XP.
If I'm selecting WMV as target format in MM2 and later convert to MPEG2 and burn to DVD everything OK (but quality of video isn't so good and looks overcompressed a bit like VCD or bad DIVx).
If I'm selecting AVI-DV format as target in MM2 and later convert huge avi file to MPEG2 and burn to DVD video quality is excellent and much better then in previous case but sound plays about octave lower. Strange that synchronization of sound with video still presents.
I have noticed that problem presents if I'm using 16 bits sound mode in camcorder. For 12 bits recorded on camcorder sound everything OK. I have several films with 16 bits sound.
Any suggestions how to fix it and convert to DVD (MPEG-2)?
Problem exists for different MPEG-2 encoder software (Canopus, Nero).
Thanks.

I would like to now open the project again and save it as a larger file. Even when I re-imported the original files with no name changes, the timeline clips have "x"'s on them but still hold the original clip names. How can I reassociate the clips with the project?

poor quality on DVD
I finished my first movie with MM2 & the quality is
terrible. It's grainy & jumpy. I transferred from my
Sony video camera with firewire using iLink following the
standard steps in MM2. The video when played on the PC
is perfect. Something is lost when I transfer to DVD. I
have tried several programs to transfer the movie to DVD
including Sonic & Roxio. I've saved the movie as AVI (37
min movie won't fit on DVD!), NTSC (DVD player won't read
disc), & the standard format used by MM2 program,
whatever that is. Nothing has improved the quality.
What can I do to capture the same quality on the DVD as
on my PC? I'm not real PC savvy...I've read all the
posts here & several other sites, but nothing has changed
the end result of a DVD so poor I might as well not
bother. Can anyone help?

AVI versus Quicktime
I am shopping for my first digital camera and was wondering if anyone would mind giving me some advice? I am looking at the Cannon A75 and the Kodax DX7440. The Cannon records video in AVI and the Kodax records in Quicktime. I borrowed a friends Cannon and took a bunch of short videos and put them all together using Movie Maker and it came out pretty good. So what I am wondering is, can anyone tell me which movie format is better AVI or Quicktime? Is one better quality then the other?

If Movie Maker crashes on you
Hello there,
A very common problem when using Movie Maker version 2 is that it
crashes when adding an effect or a transition and sometimes when
adding text.
The one stop solution for that is a program called Rename Codecs and
it is available from my web site. To get your copy you have to join
the Rename Codec Forum and then request it. A copy will then be sent
to you. Make sure you check out the FAQ on what it does and how to
run it (That will take about one minute of your time!!) All the info
you need is on the web site.
Be warned that unregistering any file and doing it wrong will more
than likely stop the program from working all together and may cause
your entire XP system to fail. This is true whether you make a
mistake using the Registry editor or the registration program
itself....one mistake and you are potentially in deep trouble. You
should think about this, if you make a mistake because you typed
something incorrectly, how will you reverse that situation? Do you
have enough knowledge to know why it failed and then enough knowledge
to reverse that situation before continuing on to fix the actual
problem?
This reassuringly safe to use program requires no knowledge on your
part about what it is doing or how it is doing it or what it is doing
it too!!! neither do you need to know where any of these files are or
whether it is safe to rename them or not.....and best of all, ITS
FREE !!!
So far from feedback, it seems there is around an 80% chance this
program will solve your problem if it is one of those described above
and around half of the remaining 20% found there solution in the
following alternative approach....
1) Download the full version of DirectX Ver 9.0b, Media Player 9 and
Movie Maker 2.
2) Reboot you computer and Install DirectX
3) Reboot again and install Windows Media Player 9
4) Reboot yet again and install Movie Maker 2
5) Reboot one more time
Yes it sounds very tedious, but if you want to be certain all file
locks are removed so that the correct files can be installed this is
the way you have to go. It is very important that you only download
the full versions of these programs and that you DO NOT attempt an
install over the internet. It is also important that you DO NOT do a
"lets see if that's fixed it" half way through the procedure...to do
so could result in you having to go all the way back to the beginning
and starting again!!

Saving the Movie CD
I am attending a class on Windows Movie making.
With the instructor guidance, I saved my work on the CD.
In fact when the saving process is completed, the system
let me see a preview of what was saved on the CD. So my
project is on the CD - anyway it was when I left my
classroom.
Taking this same CD home, I opened it and couldn't find
the file that I saved in class. It is very very
frustrating in going through the process of saving with
Windows Movie Making.
The above is one issue.
My second issue is,
I bring home my completed task for that night at school
on my CD and bring it home. I insert the CD in my home
PC and click the file. When it is all downloaded, I see
a bunch "red Xs" in the spot where my personal pictures
was. Well, it was there the last time I looked in class.
If anyone know the solutions, please email me.

DV-AVI files play choppy after backup
I just installed a second hard drive to backup my movies
(Western Digital, 7200rpm, 200GB, 8MB cache). We all know
how much space they take up. When I tried playing in WMP
just to see that the backup went ok, the video/audio was
choppy. I'm pretty sure I've read on this board before
that if working with video kept on a second drive, this
might happen but I just wanted to double check that
everything with my files is still ok. I copied one of the
smaller videos back to my desktop and it plays fine.
Is this normal? After copying back to desktop and the
video is ok, I figure the file integrity is unaltered.
Just looking to confirm my suspicions.
Thanks,
