closing down

I have had the problem several times of my windows movie maker and when ever i try to place an effect like blurr or fade or anything like that the entire screen closes, no warnings, no error messages nothing. it does not even save. now i had this problem fixed at one point but now it is back and i can't remember how i fixed it the first time so if anyone can tell me how to fix this problem i would GREATLY appriciate it ^.^

You probably added one of the codecs that MM2 has
problems with. See the Problem Solving... Acceleration
and Codecs page of www.papajohn.org
