after clicking the capture video from device icon it gives an error message
saying:

the video device is currently in use. close any other application that is
using the device and try again.

however, I'm not using the device for anything else...

any recomendations?

Let me guess. Your using USB to capture?
It is best to capture with firewire as using USB often results in this exact
thing happening.
Firewire is faster and gives you a higher quality video clip.
