I've been building a movie with about 100 pictures, audio, etc. I've gotten
through the initial problems, but now I've got a black screen when I preview
the storyboard. the audio is working fine and the timeline progresses
through the different pictures, but no picture is shown. Suggestions??

I am having the same problem. I cannot get my video to a CD, a DVD or to my
computer for playback. It saves about half my movie and then the rest is a
black screen but yet the audio is still playing and I need the video for a
banquet in about 3 hours.

You may have some incompatibility issues

It could be a compatibility problem as John suggests or it could be a
complexity problem.
To answer both questions we need more information.

How many audio/video/image clips are in your project and what file types are
they?
How many transitions are in the project?
What are your computer specs?

Thanks for your help. Right now there are about 100 pictures (jpeg) and 7
songs (MP3). The songs were originally MP4 protected and I used an encoder
from the internet to convert them to mp3. Standard transitions, nothing
special.

Sometimes MP3's cause problems in Movie Maker.
Since you are working with MP3's that are converted MP4's it may be even
more possible that this is the reason for the problem. I would either
convert the original MP4's to WMA or further convert the MP3's to WMA.
In fact your best bet may be to burn the MP4's to CD then rip them from the
CD as WMA files.
Import the WMA's into Movie Maker to replace the MP3's and the problem could
very well go away.
